Was aboard the last run departing DC on November the 9th and watched as she departed Cumberland, MD for the last time...

Truly an end of an era. The capital comes down my line every night in the wee hours of the morning. I’ve only caught it once before when it was 6 hours late. Hope to catch it on its final run come November.

The Floridian starts tomorrow! Right on November 10! I hope I can ride it sometime! If it’s reliable

The Auto Train will be the only unique long distance route on the East Coast. But, in upcoming week, a farewell to the Capitol Limited with the superliner consist. Hopefully, the single level cars are enough for the Flordian.

This Floridian service will be available till 2027 or 2028. The reason why a Florida to Chicago train (Abolishing the Silver Star and Capital Limited) is because the East River Tunnels under the Hudson River between New York and New Jersey is undergoing an overhaul. So Amtrak has to slow down the amount of traffic its trains used on the Northeast Corridor. Especially those that terminate at NY Penn Station. I’ve never ridden an Amtrak train utilizing Superliner cars before. I hope to do so soon.

Nice video. While I'm definitely excited for the new Floridian service, I will admit it is a little sad to see the Capitol Limited go away. I also don't get why Amtrak won't use the Superliner cars on the Floridian. Makes no sense.

One of the main reasons for combining the services is to ease a Superliner shortage on the western long distance trains.
