End of an Era: Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and the Death of a Fad

6 months later than expected!
Guitar Hero and Rock Band were, at one point, some of the most successful gaming franchises on the planet. So why hasn't a new game been made in nearly a decade? Why can't you buy new guitars at Wal-Mart? Why should I even care? win9x delves deep into this dilemma.

Harmonix finally shut down new DLC drops in January 2024. I stepped out when Harmonix stopped dropping new DLC for RB 3. I played on a 360 and had all these controllers.... And the Ion Drum Rocker wasn't supported on Xbox One at all. (Primarily a MS thing rather than Harmonix) I dug out my old set up last week. Three singers, guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, all going at once. It's still as awesome now as it was then. There's a new generation of kids in my family that had never experienced it and had a lot of fun and discovered bands/songs they had never heard of before at the same time. RIP Rhythm Games.

The later editions of RB and GH were A LOT LIKE PLAYING THE SONGS!!! it was crazy because some songs in real guitar were easier to play. They REALLY REALLY got the feel down on guitar. The drums on expert or hard mode... In GH METALLICA or RB GREEN DAY were SOOOO LEGIT LIKE PLAYING THE SONGS! If you drank too much... you had NO CHOICE but to play it on medium cause it was like a REAL GIG! It was TOO hard to keep up with that 4/4 punk beat

Have you ever heard about YARG? It's an open source rhythm game that tries to emulate Rock Band's style and what not. It's basically the Clone Hero of Rock Band (not by the same devs ofc)
