The city government should just put the market on the ground floor of the public housing. That's normal in Hong Kong. You could have the market plus some restaurants to serve the customers and workers, and then put the apartments up above. I wonder why they haven't considered doing that.

Remember those "temporary hawker markets" like in Kwun Tong. Its like a mini prison, no curb appeal. Terrible policy. Like you said shops in ground floor housing on top, I am used to that, like in Kai Yip Estate years back.
@DocPetron Жыл бұрын
That's probably not an optimal use of space. If there are a lot of new housing, it makes sense to have the ground floor used for retail shops like grocery or convenient stores or eateries. This fabric market looks more like a wholesale market.

What a shortsighted decision, but not surprising considering the "new management" of the city.

Quite a few of these stories in HK recently. Taking all the flavour out of a city for more "public housing" will be a mistake in the long run.

These business is what made Hong Kong but times are changing and they will eventually all be gone. The Hong Kong is today is very different from the Hong kong of say 50 yrs, 40 yrs, 30 yrs or even just 20 yrs ago. Older businesses and relics are changing. Change happens all around the world not just in Hong Kong. Kiev, Ukraine was once a peaceful place but now has war... nothing is static.

Sadly its been told that his fabric vendor business is 40 years + had to move to some place include with his wide range of things. Not sure how the system works out to give him the space he needs to. Said he is decline by own means the business faded away like a dust😔

Culture and economy goes together. Because of interference from PRC government, Hong Kong is losing its culture and heritage- no cultural freedom and heritage being clamped by CCP officials ! Unlike PRC, Taiwan, Japan, S Korea and Singapore which possess cultural freedom and genuine heritage on top of their economic success!!!
