KZbin Kids is awful. They don't moderate what content is put on there, they rely on keywords and hashtags. What KZbin NEEDS to do is hire an entire team of content curators for that app. I don't even let my kid use that app anymore. She can only watch YT on the TV using our account so we can actually see what she's watching.

as far as I know, KZbin Kids is only a phone app... I've tried, every few months, to search and see if there's any KZbin Kids that we can watch on the TV (because we watch as a family and we're not all going to sit around a phone to watch) But I haven't found anything.

Exactly. I hate this absence of parenting and I see it in my own family and they get upset with me when I try to police what the kids watch. They just give them the phone and they watch whatever. I am so tired of platforms becoming more and more "kid friendly". And I think the problem is partially the people who don't look after their kids and then get angry when they see something "inappropriate". But the other part of the problem are the platforms themselves. I feel like they are not putting an effort to fight so that adults can watch "adult" content and kids can watch "kid safe" content. I hope you are not badly affected by this stupid changes :(

the only parents getting angry are the ones who are looking after their kids. If they weren't they wouldn't notice, or care, that the content is inapropriate. My kids only watch youtube on the tv in the living room with supervision. But unless I watch every video before they watch it, how am I supposed to tell if it's kid friendly? My son, for example, loves watching Mario Maker videos... and you'd think that would be safe for an 8 year old.... but there's often times foul language. If there was just a rating beside the video, like a little icon that said if it's G rated or PG, then I would know what to avoid. I've tried to find youtube kids, but I'm pretty sure it's only on phones (and i'm not going to let my kids use phones without supervision)

It would allow me to watch and creator to make whatever type of content we want while allowing your child to watch the content you think is appropriate. This is precisely why I think sites like KZbin and Tumblr are lazy for not seeking simple solutions that would benefit everyone. On the other hand, I have to disagree that only parents who supervise their kids are angry. The worst thing that your kid can be exposed to on KZbin is not foul language. It is learning terrible behavior or being practically scammed by KZbinrs who target their products to kids because they know kids are easier to coerce. Many outraged parents are mad that their children are wasting money on silly things, and later they find out that KZbinrs and KZbin adds are selling them. Or they are mad because their kids misbehave, and they don't know where they learned that behavior when the kids learned it from some KZbinr. This is more reason why I think your idea is great. If both channels and videos are rated, then KZbinrs who are trying to take advantage of kids or teaching them terrible manners can be stopped.

The actual FTC fine was more so aimed towards how KZbin was handling kid’s data. KZbin was selling kid’s data to advertisers, which is 100% against the law, as I believe it should be. Now whether KZbin should step in like this and essentially stop showing ads for all kid related videos is a different issue. For content creators, I hope that maybe KZbin could implement some sort of ad-free kid’s content option into KZbin premium for parents that don’t want their kids to be spammed with advertisements, but KZbin premium already doesn’t pay content creators that much to begin with anyways, so who knows. Young kids don’t know the difference between what an advert and a regular video is, so I can understand why taking ads down on kid’s videos could be a positive thing, but again KZbin is just leaving content creators to deal with the downfall without much/any support

Some parents really need to step up their responsibility instead of blaming everyone else...My parents used to go through certain websites to make sure they were okay for me to go to, and then they said "Okay, these websites here you are allowed to go to and nothing else" and I had fun for hours. No kid should be allowed to roam the internet freely, let alone youtube! And if they get bored quickly there's always toys, movies, crafting, doing things with their parents and so on.

I hate the fact that they’re treating EVERY account as a child. It’s ridiculous! If the account is listed as an adult then KZbin shouldn’t be held accountable for who’s on the other side. If a child has made an account older then that’s not KZbin’s fault, if a child is using a parents account than it’s on the parents to make a KZbin for a child’s age! HeroRodrigues unfortunately they kinda have to. They truly don’t know who’s behind the account, and this is the law they’re dealing with. The law itself is aimed towards how KZbin handles data collection, and not necessarily ads themselves. It is 100% against the law to sell kid’s data like that, and I believe it should be, kids have zero protection against their data and big companies shouldn’t take advantage of that. Google/KZbin makes the most money out of targeted ads because they’re able to sell data to advertisers. It’s an unfortunate situation, and sadly again KZbin is leaving content creators to deal with the downfall instead of supporting them

@@pokefesterJr technically speaking, if they signed up for an account that lied about the proper age of the user, that is fraud. KZbin cannot be held accountable on incidents based on false premises. As far as no protection goes, that is why you need a DOB when you sign up. You MUST be over the age of 13 to sign up, and if you are under the age of 18, certain content is restricted from your viewing. There are also filters and controls on your channel to make sure that you are viewing undesirable content for either yourself or your children (like parental controls) additionally, a lot adults watch content that was intended for children (sometimes that content is really good, and obviously adults make it so there are those interested in it) and it is within reason that videos intended for children still collect information about their viewers (provided that the "age" of the user is appropriate). If children are still getting their data analyzed it is because they lied about their age and their parents are negligent towards their online activity, or their parents agreed to have their information solicited. Either way, not KZbin's Fault.

I think its ridiculous personally. It's not KZbin's responsibility. It's the PARENTS responsibility to makes sure that their kids are watching content that's appropriate for them. And what is appropriate for children is up to the individual(s) raising the child to determine. This will hurt so many people who do doll customization too. A lot of them do it for adults who also participate in the hobby, any art hobby tbh, or just like to watch the process behind it. There are SO many adults that are interested in cartoons too. It's not just effecting these youtubers, it's also going to inhibit some users from being able to see the content readily. They already disabled comments in videos where children are heavily seen in too (it only takes a small majority of people to ruin that community aspect on a lot of family vlogger channels). I understand they have a duty, placed by societal rules, to make sure as a company they are able to limit what kids are exposed to and to protect them to what limits they can. But sincerely think this is too much.

@jowalter05 I actually double checked what you said because I was sure at one point, that's how KZbin worked. If you didn't sign in, you were greatly limited. Now I kind of regret testing that out to see that's not/no longer the case. I watch all those channels and then some as well, and agree with you. KZbin/Google could go about this in a much better way than they are planning on.

wittiko wittiko wittiko Right, this is true for kids who’ve signed up for accounts. But you don’t have to have an account to watch KZbin. What does KZbin do with the kids that don’t even have accounts? I understand the whole argument behind adults watching “children’s” content, and I 100% agree that KZbin should figure out a better way to handle children’s data and advertisement towards children to what they have proposed so far. You also have to remember that in the law, a child is a person under the age of 18/19 so even if a kid lies about being 13, technically they are still a child either way. As a parent you can filter what videos your kids are watching but as of right now, you can’t filter ads without just blocking all ads with 3rd party software. Young children don’t know the difference between what an advert is and what a video that isn’t supposed to sell you a product is. The FTC was right to fine KZbin, they broke the law. How KZbin is responding to that is what I have issue with.

Apparently your channel doesn’t generate enough money, your channel may be deleted. A little harsh, but I get it. And Kandyblix, it’s not completely about the commercials, it’s about the money and channels getting demonetized. And it’s not kids fault. It’s their parents. The parents let their kids on KZbin and let them do whatever. I started watching KZbin when I was 7 but, my parents kept me safe and *limited* me to the videos I could watch. Other parents don’t care, now I’m not saying it’s every parents fault only the ones that aren’t careful. Anyways, KZbin is a job and the people get paid for it. KZbin can make someone rich and famous, that’s how good of a job KZbin is. And if you get sponsors you get more money and KZbin is saying, “oh, you want extra money to live? @paisleyyama It's not coming from the FCC. This is coming from the FTC. And the COPPA rule. I heard there were some Child advocacy groups that didn't like certain KZbin videos and complained under COPPA to the FTC. And the FTC sued KZbin for violations. This shouldn't even be a problem as KZbin has people age 13 over signing up for the platform. It's the parents fault if they hand willingly the device to their kids.

There needs to be an option on upload settings that flag your video as "all ages", "not for kids", and "for kids". That way, depending on the video you upload it will less likely to be recommended on inappropriate videos based on tags. If a child watches a video using a parents account or gets their permission then that is on them/their parents.

They aren't taking data from what the kids watch, they just make a commercial about kids products, movies, ect. and stream it on TV. A kid could be watching my little pony and then get a Spider-Man blaster toy commercial, something unrelated to everything they watch. The point is is that KZbin pays attention to what they're watching let's say for example Elsa videos, and then pushes ads about frozen on their screen. They're "abusing" they're power and the kids lack of knowledge/self control (self control as in spending parents money) (and knowledge as in knowing what ads are viruses and such) hope that makes sense

@@stampandscrap7494 You do realize every social media does this right? Even Google does this! Plus it's part of the Terms of Agreement it's not like it's a secret. And it's not sensitive data, it's just what videos you watch and the things you google. For example right after watching this video the next video I watched (having nothing to do with art) had an art ad placed before it. Is that so bad? I can see how it's manipulative towards children, but towards teens and adults it's really not that bad. I don't know all i gotta say is it doesn't bother me.
