This episode has been such a pivot point in the story. Seeing Maine lose it was so sad to watch. He cared so much for everyone around him, it's a tragedy he ended up hurting them. But it was sweet how he was able to get it together while talking to David.

Absolutrly pivotal. This is where the show pivoted from being a fun lighthearted show about a bunch of delinquents in a big city, into a dark, gritty, sad story about the end of a group of delinquents in a big city, just trying to survive how they can. Show is so beautiful. Nothing really changed, and yet, EVERYTHING changed. Wild.

He cared about David so much that David was able to break through Maine's psychosis and into his hallucination. Powerful stuff. David saw him as a dad just as much as Maine saw David as a son.

that last shot of david is honestly my favorite moment in the entire series, there's no rage, he's not bawling his eyes out, it's quiet except for the car, and david only lets one tear out after seeing his father figure die.

That scene with the explosion, why it was weird with the close up was David's sandevistan kicked in when the explosion started, so he saw Maine and Dorio just evaporate in super slow motion. Hence why he started freaking out there.

@treefingers65724 ай бұрын
Yeah I see a lot of react channels get confused at this part for some reason. The perspective is a little confusing at first, but I think it becomes clear: David is running from the explosion in sandy time (this is probably the fastest and hardest he's ever had to push himself with it, outrunning an explosion is no joke). He's pushing his body to the absolute brink to grab Maine's arms and get the hell out of there, the explosion literally nipping at his heels. The heat at his back intensifying, and the pain of loss settling in, he tries to scream from the sheer horror of it all, but it's such a strenuous, traumatizing experience that the scream catches in his throat, and he can barely let out a strained cry. It's like a nightmare where you try to scream, but nothing comes out, and you feel like you're being suffocated. I think it's a beautiful representation of the absolute terror of that moment and how it tested David's physical and mental limits, almost breaking them entirely. This episode has a lot of abstract ideas and moments like this; even the way characters are drawn and animated in this episode stands out from the rest of the series. It's expressionistic and dreamlike. It's easily the most artistically profound episode of the series, and therefore my favorite one. Also I love that the Apogee Sandevistan in the game (the one closest to what David has) can make you fast enough to outrun small explosions too. I've had moments where I'm standing next to an enemy and a gas tank, and instead of shooting the enemy and trying to wear down their health with a bunch of shots, I just shoot the tank, dash away, and watch it engulf their body. Cyberpunk probably has the most fun and crazy time-slowing mechanic, just behind Dishonored, which allows you to literally stop time and quicksilver a room of bad guys.

So, part of the lore of Cyberpunk is that you have 2 kinds of vision in addition to your actual eyes. AR and VR. AR is being able to see the actual world but see avatars for like advertisement. VR is what Lucy was doing this episode. VR is much like what we know VR to be, but this is something you use while you're hacking. (Its fantasy, remember!) But anyways, while hacking, you are literally going into the metaverse and interacting with the firewalls and ICE (ICE is a protective service, it can take forms of VR drones and whatnot, things that will literally attack you.) I haven't played the Cyberpunk game, but this is a lot of what they took from other shows and media. Most notably Shadowrun and whatnot. The medicine that they are using is called baloperidol. It is a (obviously) fictional drug that is to treat cyberpsychosis, but there is no cure. Once you start, you're basically up a creek w/ no paddle. It's very dangerous. In Shadowrun, it's the same, but what ends up happening when your cyberware takes hold of you is they consider you to be a cyberzombie. In that game, you have a humanity stat and if you have too much gear, your humanity stat goes to 0 and you become a zombie. You're still able to move and whatnot, but there is no brain function. Super aggressive. In the game, from what I'm told, you don't even come close to cyberpsycho from having as many implants as in this show, so I don't know how accurate or what the specifics are for this show. There's just so many really cool things in the cyberpunk universe. Ghosts and whatnot, ghouls. Depends on your source of media, they all do things differently, but most of them are pretty close to the same thing.
@DevilWearsAdidas Жыл бұрын
Oh. Good example of AR is when they are texting each other. It's a neural link to your phone. They are literally texting exactly how you see them texting. So that's why when Faraday is messaging Maine, you can see some irritation. It takes up some of his actual vision. That and the crazy
@MichaelTranoid20 күн бұрын
Extremely late reply. Cyberpsychosis is a thing in Cyberpunk 2077. There are many Psychos loose, and it touches on PTSD, and how it may warp your perception of the world. V, the main character, is unable to go into Cyberpsychosis. There are many theories why they are unaffected. There are two prevalent theories from the community. One, V is already a Cyberpsycho, but they are a high functioning Psycho like Adam Smasher. V is always in a state of psychosis. Two, Johnny Silverhand's personality engram is giving more processing power compared to anyone else. Instead of the processing power of just one person, V has the power of two. Making V nearly impossible to truly overload their nervous system. V's brain is also being constantly healed by the nanomachines that are rewriting their brain, which makes them less susceptible to software corruption.

The last scene of David and Maine, was essentially David activating his Sandevistan. In order to get out of the building, he had to use it, but his pure shock essentially stopped him from bugging the hell out, leading to him watching his new role model figure get blown apart in slow motion.

You'd think downgrading would be an easy choice, but we all know Night City is all about power and money--and downgrading for a merc accomplishes neither. The irony that Maine didn't want to become weaker in order to be able to look out for his crew, leading to Dorio having to sacrifice herself just to hit him with another round of immunoblockers one more time... really makes that scene hit so much harder.
@defiante1 Жыл бұрын
That's the trap though, downgrading achieves a lot of power and money because you need to be alive to attain both, and clear minded. Its a psychological trap only. The problem is Cyber Punks aren't that different from corpo's at the end of the day, both want money and power they just go through different means to get it.

This episode is incredibly poignant. What is it that David wants? He just wants to help people. He wants to help Maine. When told to his face by everyone around him that’s not possible and that he can’t do it or shouldn’t, David breaks. Can you blame him for being naive? Maine was his father figure. He lost his mom (and only parental figure) at the start of the story. He’s 17.

Thrilling intro So, in the lore, at least in the 2020s, cyberpsychosis could be reversed by therapy and replacing more extreme cyberware, like Maine's. There's a humanity stat in the tabletop game that diminishes with increased cyberware load and letting that stat get too low causes cyberpsychosis. It seems like the increased corporatisation of Night City has long since deprived most people of the means to recover though, as the game refers to that treatment as theoretical
