Holy... Are you going to crack that baby open? When I replaced my friend's charging port, I had a strange feeling that the sneaky electrons were staring back at me laughing... Surface mount stuff is so small, it's like an alternative universe, where the neighbors are having tea with Elvis at the Spooky Distance Cafe... Has that overhead camera got a zoom facility? To me that would probably be the most useful feature during livestreams. Sadly such modern SMT pcbs are fast becoming largely non-repairable. We know they are made by highly precise machines, but I often wonder what the board "reject rate" is, while the engineers are setting them up for production runs! Other than simple replacement of things like external ports or BIG chips, board swapping now seems the only efficient way to fix anything SMT. And it's about time manufacturers gave a lot more thought to liquid-proofing personal electronics! Happy New Year to you and yours, Buddy.

This particular web cam does not have zoom. I plan on using my Sony camcorder for overhead shots in the future. I just need to purchase another camlink card (sort of expensive) That will give full zoom function. I agree, most of these boards are throw away these days. The only reason for repair is data recovery. Happy New Year

You're diving into new waters, enjoy the swim. I've been practicing with broken SMD type electronics from Goodwill or Salvation Army. Paul Daniels, Northridge Fix, Louis Rossman, STS Telecom. All good to learn from. Happy New Year to you and the family.

You got that right Bill. The only problem folks forget to back up their data, then the unit breaks. So only repair this stuff for data recovery.

Happy New Year! I always enjoy your videos. I have the Eakins 1280P with a 60FPS connected directly to the monitor and is very close to real time with minimal lag so it is very useful when soldering SMD.

Let's just say I'm "intimately involved" with these type of products. The problem is that you won't likely see a public schematic on the assembly. It's all proprietary. Even HP doesn't make these. They're just "ODM'ed" (Original Design/Manufactured) by a third party. Generic parts can be found but if they're not marked, without documentation it's a guess. As you found, sometimes it's cheaper just to replace the whole board but that takes away the challenge of fixing something. That's why we do what we do. Wishing you the best of the year to come. Happy New Year, love your repair videos! Just wanted to say I watch at 720P and this camera looks bad, like slight blur, the horizontal fine lines on stuff are jagged, the microscope view looked great. Just thought you should have an honest opinon on the camera...
