Um actually, the ghoul in the HP universe is usually considered a pest but like the garden gnomes the Weasleys kinda consider him more of a pet. When Harry first visits he is really excited about the chores that Ron has to do, like ridding the garden of gnomes and quieting the ghoul. While the chains seem mean, they seem to be a prized noisemaker for the ghoul and he gives Harry a chocolate frog card he found when Harry returns the chains to him. The ghoul also plays an important role in the last book, when the twins and Mr.Weasley partially transfigure the ghoul to look like Ron with a very contagious wizard disease (Spattergroit I think) so that the Weasleys have a cover for why Ron isn’t in school, or in their home!

@@andymonserud9029 the only video game thing might be the chocolate frog card for returning the chains but the rest is covered in the books. Um actually the Abyss isn't Hell. It's a sort of primordial nothingness that conforms to the nature of whatever Demon rules over that particular area of the Abyss. Also any area that has been exposed to the Abyss or powerful Abyssal creatures long enough will eventually become part of the Abyss forever. Hell is a very different place and there are in fact nine of them which are inhabited by Devils and in Avernus, the First Hell, there is an eternal war between Demons and Devils where the Abyss meets the Nine Hells called the Blood War. In fact, the Archdevil of Avernus, Zariel, used to be a celestial being who abandoned her home and fell from grace to lead the armies of Avernus against the never ending tide of Demons because she felt it was better to have the Hells exist than to let the Abyss consume everything.

Um Actually, Fraz-Urb’Luu (at least in 5e) isn’t specifically in the form of a gargoyle. According to Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes, he takes on whatever form is most pleasing to a potential cultist

Also Gargoyles specifically have spouts for mouths, the word they’re looking for is a grotesque but gargoyle is an extremely common mistake
@bloodhexesillustration19772 жыл бұрын
@@johnnyraven8178 to be fair at a certain point cultural perspective on a name like this makes the original meaning less of a hard and fast rule, gargoyles have been played as living stone monsters (sans mouth spout) for so long that that’s kinda become how most people perceive them at least when viewed in a fantasy lens. So it’s not so much a mistake as it is just the modern interpretation of a Gargoyle. To be clear I say this in good faith, no argument intended, that’s just my viewpoint.
@johnnyraven81782 жыл бұрын
@@bloodhexesillustration1977 that’s completely fair and I can think of a lot of other examples of this, like how third world originally meant a country that didn’t ally with a major power in ww2 but now is a way of describing how developed a nation is. I agree that to a certain level this is just the nature of language. The reason I specifically have a pet-peeve about gargoyles is that the root of the meaning is in the name, “GARgoyle” has the same root as GARgle which is holding water in your mouth. It especially annoys me because grotesques and hunky punks are both acceptable terms for the same statues but that don’t spit out water but for some reason no one uses those names for them. I generally completely agree with you but the gargoyle thing is just a person thing for me. Thank you making such a civil reply btw

The house ghoul the Weasleys have is like having a squirrel in the attic. The Weasleys have just chosen not to get rid of it. The ghoul just kind of hangs out and bangs on the pipes if things get too dull. They're sentient, but not very much so - they're kind of single-minded - but their ghoul dresses up as Ron and is enchanted to look similar to him, but with dragon pox as a way to fool the Death Eaters who had infiltrated the government so they wouldn't know Ron was traveling with Harry during book 7.

Um, actually, besides the 3 Elven Rings of Power, the Dwarven rings were also arguably not corrupted in the way that implies. There are no Dwarven Ringwraiths because Sauron found that he was unable to control the Dwarf-lords through the rings. The wielders did become hyper-focused on acquiring wealth, but it's debatable as to whether that was the corruption of the rings or a byproduct of the rings unnaturally prolonging their lives. By the time of Lord of the Rings all 7 had either been destroyed by Dragons or re-acquired by Sauron because they were effectively useless to him as a means of control.
@Samael11133 жыл бұрын
No ring escaped the corrupting influence. Yes the Dwarves proved highly resistant, but the bearers did go mad eventually and were lead to ruin. The Elves had a sort of heads-up to what was happening just before The-One was activated, so they used the loophole where, if the ring isn't being worn and/or used, They remain basically hidden from The-One's and Sauron's influence. The Three only started seeing use again after Sauron lost The-One and was weakened for a literal age.

From what I understand, it did make them more greedy and less willing to help others. In a way, corrupted. I also believe the dwarfs were simply too stubborn. @erikaosborn96793 жыл бұрын
@@Samael1113 I think another part of it is that Sauron and Celebrimbor worked together to create the first 16 rings; then Celebrimbor created the 3 elven rings by himself. Also that it's debtable at best if the Dwarves were corrupted by Sauron (I believe there's something specific in there about he has trouble influencing their minds because of their different, almost mechanical nature). Although it seem to intensify their greed and desire for wealth which led to the downfall of many Dwarves and the loss of their rings. Some simply due to that wealth attracting dragons.
