In Colorado, not too long ago you would have been in serious trouble if you were caught with marijuana in your pocket. But that was then and this is now: since the government decided that marijuana could be legally farmed, sold, and consumed here, this cowboy state has been in the grip of a new gold fever. Marijuana tourists have been flocking to the capital city of Denver for a year now, and countless sales outlets are offering everything from joints to hash cookies. The political establishment is realising that it can no longer do without the bonanza created for the city and state by the producers, traders, and established financial industry.
We take a closer look at this "green rush" and meet players, beneficiaries, and losers of this huge, new branch of industry. We accompany a group of tourists on a city tour with a "cannabis bus" and we talk to producers such as 43-year-old wholesaler Toni Fox. In the very first month following legalization, her company recorded a turnover of almost 300,000 dollars. We interview medical scientists, stockbrokers, and government employees. And we see how quickly the "stoner romance" has yielded to the pressures of all-American business logic. In short, this is - if nothing else - a lesson in capitalism.

I remember my first retail cannabis experience in Amsterdam. It was mind blowing the paranoia was hard to push back and that was before I enjoyed the product because of the legality/stigma associated with Cannabis in the US. Till this day the retail experience still blows my mind.

It’s actually quite weak bud wise there. The attitude toward weed an the freedom is great. However all spliff options only except two actual weed strains…Indica an sativa a one that’s it. Needless to say the spliffs and the straight indica an sativa were unfortunately weak af. Made me think consumerism has taken over and the quality of product has dropped off but idk what it was like years ago or decade or so ago, so can’t say what it used to be. But afew weeks ago forsure the scene left me wanting more options of bud an certainly effective bud as well

They just admitted that their goal is to get the most grams per watt. This causes a problem. Great strains that are awesome to smoke but don't produce enough to make their quotas get left out and forgotten. Strains that the world loves smoking will never be in those gardens, only the underground illegal ones will. We need to remember why we started growing and don't get caught up in the money game. This industry is still in it's infancy. As a former worker, with a degree in microbiology - my first job paid me $11/hour. I was told "everyone" starts on the trim line". I gave it 5 years. My goal was to work in a medical lab making extracts. I can do that in my own home now. There are homeless young people trying to make it on the industry pay wage. That aspect is not working. Medicine Man remains solid for life. Don't get it twisted. Cannabis sales out rank alcohol sales every year here in the rockies. Heard Coors was talking about infusing beer. lol The only people making money ain't the workers.

Chem 4, and any funky gassy strains are actually pretty well sought out by connoisseurs today. The fruity/candy/dessert strains are more popular but Colorado still attracts growers and breeders looking for Chem cultivars.

I am a long time weed smoker but in the last 2 1/2 years ago I got cirrhosis then broke my hip in 2022 then broke my femur in February of 2024 the in August 2024 broke my tibia all on the left side. I'd like to see interviews with the people responsible for the generic commercial trash that has ruined the market. Where are the unique aromas that were just here a few years ago? Where are the super frosty nugs that make the whole house smell just because you thought about removing one of the 3 bags you put it in because it was so loud? All been replaced by a black plastic container you can't see or smell through. All the better to conceal the stale, dry product that smells like hay and mold. The dispensary is in North Rino...which is one of the most hip areas of Denver. I've been there and it is just off the highway because people coming from the airport on I-70 are a major source of business. The reality is that using marijuana to escape stress can never mean the hard realities of living that create and sustain the stress become less real; the stressors and the stress are still there and will still be there. If you were cornered with no way of escape and a famished 30-foot crocodile was lumbering towards you, imagining that the danger isn't real does not make the crocodile less real, his hunger less real, nor you being his next meal less real. The situation shows that pathologically lying to yourself doesn't work and using substances like Marijuana and Alcohol to help you to do so doesn't help either. Telling yourself the cutting truth is better because you start to think rationally enough to see a genuine way up and out that you hadn't noticed before. Marijuana use has real medicinal benefits to some people as the research points out, but the same research shows that its misuse can and has destroyed many, many lives, and is particularly detrimental to those who lie to themselves habitually to use it. I miss Denver Relief. They were my favorite dispensary in Denver for a few years. I was bummed out when they closed down. A lot has changed in the past 10 years not just in Denver but Colorado as a whole. Companies have came and gone. Many of the transpants that helped start the initial "green rush" in Colorado, myself included left as prices sky rocketed and corporate cannabis took over. Taking our knowledge and experience to newly legalized states where the cost of living is much lower.
