These practices are used in a more utilitarian way when it comes to training new soldiers for any military. Food and sleep deprivation, forced repetition of tasks and phrases, excessive exercise to the point of muscle failure and vomiting, cutting all contact from the outside world and loved ones etc.

When I watch this type of materials I used to try to figure out whether they are telling the truth. I cannot check it. So. Either this information is true, in which case revealing it is, in itself, a form of psychological terror (because an ordinary citizen has no means of protecting him/herself against it), or This is not true, in which case I am either paranoid or somebody is taking the piss.
