That little boy has a narcissist for a father. Narcissists see their children as extensions of themselves. Their love is conditional and based purely on performance. @@BobBanana-c3e For most things I was (Still am) on the below average end of things (Dyslexia doesn't help any either) and I use to be bullied mercilessly back in hellementary school (My second last boss was no gem either), so trust me, whether it's having people using and/or abusing, if you are awkward enough to the average person and don't do enough things that people like, it can be brutal if even one two or a few of them torment you if you don't let off the right vibes T_T Most people are good though and those that aren't it is rare to find any that haven't had at least something happen in their lives that messed them up... 1% of the worlds population is roughly 80mil and even if you were to have 10%, roughly 800million people err to the cruel side, that's still 90% towards the good :) Problem is, most people seem to instinctively follow or bow down to those who emit/show more power then them regardless as to whether it is bad or good... In regards to the 13 year old girl prodigy, she's very impressive. BUT like everyone else is saying, I think it's a big issue when she's the breadwinner of the house. The dad says when she turns 18, he will back off, but will he REALY? Money really tears relationships apart, it doesn't matter if it's family. He almost brags when he says they sell 50 prints a month and that ranges from $1,800 to $3,300. Let's not forget his mistake of saying "I sell..." and then promptly correcting himself to "we sell." Around 24:20, they talk about how their daughter isn't missing out on much, but it you really think about it, she's homeschooled. She spends a majority of her time painting, even missing her meals to paint. It doesn't seem like she has any friends! Her social life suffers and what she really is missing out on as a 13 year old girl is that social connection! All she knows is business because he family relies on her to make money. Peer influence plays a major role in an individual's development and when you take that away, all the influences she has is from her family, THAT IS LIVING OFF OF HER. I haven't finished the video yet but I see a lot of comments about 33:00. Thanks for reading my rant! You're cool! (:

I disagree a bit. If the parents are acting as her managers or putting in full time work to support the daughter then it is a family business similar to farm families or any other family business where the whole family works for the family. I do however see any million dollar single family home as a waste of money.

I can't help but feel like the musician's father saw him as a means to an end before he was even born - he said they didn't play music but bought a piano especially for him, made him a tape with music on and made him to listen to it repeatedly. Telling him he wasn't good enough, neglecting his needs by forcing him to play shows when he's tired - the boy doesn't even look happy playing piano, if anything it seems like he is determined to seek his father's approval. It feels like all of these parents wanted their children to do well in life but have pushed it too far.

Despite dad havinging two jobs and mom one. Then the girl started hearing that voice and returned to painting with a fervor and her mom stepped up to promote the girl's art. The second rough time was when they got her an agent to help grow her art. When things went bad and paintings were going missing (including that featured prince of peace painting) the family went to court and went through a long expensive battle to get her out of her contract, then took over the sales and promotion together. If I won the lottery I would give it to my parents and have them stop working for sure. I am starting a new business with my work friend and we will be making a lot of money. We will be window cleaning with around 750 buildings on our books. I already told my mum I want her to retire because she is getting tired and a little frail so she will be living with me and I will top up her pension she already receives so she can live well without working anymore. It's a gift that I have this opportunity to make a lot of money with room for a 3rd person to hire for expansion. I am sharing because my mum helped me many times when I struggled with house payments and got into debt.

*That's a very inspiration to me.* She lacks even basic sentence structure. I'm sorry, well no I'm not.... I'm going to be judgemental. Just listening to the father speak made me feel uncomfortable. The way he described making prints of the originals, the financial aspect, the room she paints in, it all feels very pushy....and definitely exploitation. The mother gives off an odd vibe as well. I know many artists will have prints made, but it devalues them in the long run.....she has such obvious talent, I wonder if she'd been older and not "advised" by her parents to sell prints if she would have chosen to? I'm not an expert by any means, especially in art, but the artists I know simply do not create prints on a matter of principle for them. An inspired painting is an original.....one of a kind not to be repeated, nor printed on copy. My cousin is a professional artist, I'm not speaking world wide of course, but she's had the talent since a young age and sells on the professional level. She creates art in different types of medium, but the majority are paintings. Her style is a select niche, it definitely doesn't appeal to everyone. But it brings in a pretty good amount of money to live comfortably. Her art may sell from a very small piece at $50 to thousands, depending I guess on what it is. (I have no idea how she decides on what to price her art at) They are rather striking and breathtaking pieces to me. Being brought up practically though she did also get an education and degree, so she holds a regular everyday job as well. Again these are just my opinion and own experience, which is really irrelevant, these children are grown now. I saw a link that said the girl is now 25 and just fine. Whatever fine is? Really subjective.

I feel sorry for the child pianist. Special or not, we must remember that they physically still are children. And children who probably require more sleep than the average child, not less. The dad should have stated to the audience that the child is tired and it´s past him bed time. Poor lil muffin. My eyes leaked for him when he had to sit back down at the piano as he was rubbing his eyes of exhaustion. One could argue that this is abusive. We have no right to push them so hard, for our entiertainment . We used to to objectify people with dwarfism in circuses, and I don´t see the difference here. Kid in a bar entertaining adults when he should be in bed being told a bed time story. Sad. He is missing out on just being a kid, wh he will never get back.

It's strangely odd to be a parent to a gifted child. I taught mine to read a 3 and she was reading novels by 5. Was given a scholarship to one of the most exclusive science and math schools in the US at 15. She made the decision to return to a regular high school and they had to make special classes for her alone. She spends her school day in study hall because they simply don't have classes to offer her. While other kids are taking algebra, she's already passed college senior level calculus. The downside of this wasn't anticipated. Because she's so extremely bored, she has severe depression and anxiety. I'm proud of her, but I'm terrified for her mental health.

Is it her name on the house Wewe? I imagine not, in which case when she moves on they can sell it for a smaller place and have made another profit off her, shes too young and naive yet to be aware of any of these subtle kinds of tricks. Theyre making far more from her art than any of it is worth though so they have done that for her, as Andrew pointed out.
