That and he likely felt like he had little to live for with being in a completely different world than the one he was used to with those he knew in the past all being long dead along with his former, happier life, suffering from major PTSD, and a lot of guilt for all the atrocities he committed while under mind control. He likely felt he never deserved to live after what he’d done in the first place and was never very hopeful of having a better life. Knowing all that alone I’m not surprised he was the first to go.
@Gamer_Dylan_6
@Gamer_Dylan_6 2 жыл бұрын
My theory had always been that how long you last after the snap is directly related to your willpower, that's why bucky is first. He's a PTSD addled heavily traumatized retired soldier, so of course he goes almost instantly, and that's why thanos out of every character snapped lasts the longest. This has some neat implications if we look at everyone else snapped, like Starlord has more willpower than Drax, and of course Spider-Man is the most resilient character out of everyone we see disappear in the first snap. Not to mention loss and how you move on after losing someone is basically spider-mans central theme. You have to be pretty strong willed to move on after loosing someone, and we see him do that.
@cloudbytepony3826
@cloudbytepony3826 2 жыл бұрын
Starlord is quite strong willed , (or stubborn if you wish), he was able to snap out of Ego's control when the latter mentioned Quill's mother. Also, Quill lasted long among the Ravagers, even going so far as to defy Yondu, knowing very well he could end dead if Yondu's patience for him grew thin. He also didn't panic in the face of Ronan, going so far as improvising a stupid routine to delay and confuse him.
@TheLAGopher
@TheLAGopher 2 жыл бұрын
I find it hard to believe that Spider-Man I stronger willed than Black Panther who had already come back from the dead for his people. I think a better in universe reason would be that the snap process is. not instantaneous but took place over several seconds as if the random chance aspect of Thanos snap was flipping a coin for every living thing in the universe
@Gamer_Dylan_6
@Gamer_Dylan_6 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheLAGopher I get that, but also consider the fact that, while not pampered he grew up royalty and at the time of infinity war had been a superhero the shortest. Also, he can't bring himself to kill killmonger when he has a chance the first time. He still has more willpower than all of the wakandan soldiers, who get their own cut away before he dissappears. Not to mention his suit has basically kept him 100% safe in every fight besides his fight with killmonger. It's not that black panther is lacking in willpower, it's just that the ones that come after him might have more. Ex: groot is a rebellious teen and a literal sturdy tree man who as adult groot had the love and power within himself to die to save all of his family, despite no one but rocket ever having anything overly kind to say to him before the final act. This theory isn't 100% perfect, but I honestly doubt that directors known for their immense attention to detail would choose at random who gets dusted in what order. Also spiderman literally had a whole movie about finding his strength and becoming more than himself. Black panther is cool but he doesn't have that.

I’d like to think that Thanos was last because Tony wanted him to see all the “hard work” he’d done to achieve his goal, have that goal succeed only to have it literally fade away right before his eyes. Basically it’s Tony saying “f@ck you this time you lose!” And he’d be getting Old Testament style “eye for an eye” type revenge” for Peter at the same time. He wanted Thanos feel the same pain that both he (Tony) and Peter felt.

I don't think Peter was feeling "pain" as much as "panic" when he say's he don't feel so good. Usually his spider-sense alert him of danger and allow him to know the most efficient way to avoid said danger and stay alive but after the snap his spider-sense is probably tingling way more than usual to tell him that he's gonna die with not possible way of dodging his way out of this one. He probably know that asking Tony for help will be as useless as anything else but do it anyway cuz he's scared to death...until he died. *and to think Holland actually improvised the whole scene and yet captured the moment so well is amazing

The other theory that has been posed is with regard to Spiderman's amazing healing factor. While not at the level of a wolverine or deadpool, spiderman does have one of the more resilient healing factors in the Marvel Universe. As such the theory is that because the snap caused him to disintegrate at a cellular level, his healing factor was rapidly stitching him back together but obviously not as fast as the snap could disassemble him. So in tandem with a screaming spidey sense, the will to stay, he must have been in agony as his body was being torn apart and reassembled and torn apart again.

I do mostly agree with this video, but I believe why willpower kept people living longer wasn't a forced property of the snap, but it was Thanos's "mercy". He wanted to cause minimal pain, so there's a few more moments to spend to accept your death. As the infinity stones are capable of anything, Tony's snap easily could have been a little different. Ofc Thanos was dusted last for dramatic effect, but also to make him realise fully that he had failed, adding salt to the wound as a revenge.

Something I have always wondered is what would have happened if we traded a hero getting dusted to an random who-knows-what-creature to get dusted instead. How would that hero have evolved? One good example is Star Lord. It’s more or less his fault that Thanos won. It would have been interesting to see Peter Quill face the consequences of what he did. His extended sulking would maybe even lead to him blaming himself for Thanos getting the soul stone by not killing Gamora as he had promised her. Besides Rocket he would be the only other guardian left. …. But let’s take Mantis. Think that loosing everyone she considered friends and family disappear in front of her as well as feeling all the anguish and sadness in the universe. She was kind of spared feeling it fully because she would get snapped. It wouldn’t surprise me if the mantis we would have seen 5 years later would be closer to her counterpart in the old comics. She would maybe even take blame on herself on not being “strong enough” to hold Thanos in a trance. She would also be somewhat of an outcast of her team since Rocket and Nebula are like those kind of friends in a group you aren’t that close with and she certainly wouldn’t have stayed with the Avengers since they are like those classmates you barely know or interact with and she would be considered an social outcast if she tried a civilian life like Tony which would be hard for has she wouldn’t be familiar with earth-customs. I mean she’s more or less the same person in personality and social skills 4 years after the events of guardians of the galaxy vol. 2 so she wouldn’t be counted lucky. Maybe her depression on losing Drax (the only guardian she has any real friendly interaction with) would make her more…. Serious? Focused? I don’t know but her surviving the snap WOULD have affected her negatively extremely much. Drax….hmmm… Drax…. Well he would remain more or less the same the only difference I could imagine is that he would revert back to the vicious killer we saw in the first movie if not even worse. If he had survived I could imagine him going on an rampage on a forest and when the avengers recruit him they would find larger parts of the forest leveled. I also think he would have been one of many to face of against Thanos in endgame tho losing but not without getting in a few good slices in. Groot is quite simple. I could imagine him in a similar position as Rocket as they would still have each other. We would still see an more depressed Groot similar to Rocket and by the time endgame would take place he would be an young adult but still have the personality of Groot in guardians of the galaxy. Scarlet Witch is also an interesting case. Maybe some events similar to Wandavision would have happened? The only difference is that the avengers *would* have interfered.

We have a glimpse of what Star-Lord would have been like if he survived throught the eyes of Thor who kinda was the other responsible for the snap for not going for the head. Both Star-Lord and Thor are kind of men-child with often more pride than judment. If they would have both survived they would probably spend the next 5 years arguing who's fault the whole fiasco is. If Quill would have survived instead of Thor he would have had become the fat fortnite playing loser.

Peter fading to dust is an incredible moment for Spidey that displays some of the things that define him without explicitly stating it. He has one of the strongest wills in all of Marvel, as evidenced by the zombies story in which his moral compass is the one that guides the rest of the zombies to pause and even convinces them not to continue their rampage at a point. It also gives us an idea of how the spider sense works, as we can conclude that his physical condition is caused by this sixth sense and that it can detect even the Infinity stones rewriting the universe as a threat. But none of this is put into words to describe the scene as it happens.

So while thanos is surrounded by Willpower Level 1s, and a few lv 4s or something. Peter was surrounded by more higher-ranking wills. He's healed broken bones, gunshots, and splattered organs/internal bleeding over night in just a few hours time. It's nothing compared to Logan, granted. But it's same tier if not more than captain America. And ontop of that an added couple layers of durability due to his entire body being stronger. It's not just his Spidey senses. Goddamn, this little explanation explains so much more than just this. The characters are killed off in order of who is the most willing to die, and with that, everything makes sense. Bucky dies first because his will to live has been so degraded after all he's been through, Drax goes before Star-Lord because after his family died, he had so little left to live for in comparison to Star-Lord's pseudo-family in the Ravagers, Peter was the most scared to die and had the most to live for in comparison to everyone else, and the same goes for Past Thanos during the third snap. Peter's spider-sense wasn't just bugging because of his mourning and anxiety of Tony, it's basically got PTSD after the snap and needs time to recover. It all makes so much more sense now.

I don't think that explanation makes much sense, that they disappeared in order of who was more willing to die, Wanda would have been the most willing out of anyone in Wakanda at that point and she was the last avenger to die. Also with Mantis being the first to go on Titan doesn't make sense, out of all of the guardians she is probably the one who would be the least willing to die, Drax and Strange would have been the two most willing, Drax for obvious reasons and Strange because he saw what had to happen and had accepted that he would be gone. Peter's spider-sense and the issues with it afterwards makes sense though, I agree with that.

You say 'sans hulk' but within the MCU, Thor is equal to if not stronger than Hulk. So it should be 'sans hulk & thor'

@@theBabyDead indeed. Of course. But Thor is not as brainy. Ironman is, but strength strength is at his suits not body. Same applies to the captain of the fantastic four. Caps haven't been dusted and besides he(most probably) isn't on par with peter. But yes I only watched a few MCU movies, haven't read any comics, so can be very wrong 😅🥺

@@ismata3274 well, I don't think brainy had anything to do with it, but if it did, Thor is actually highly intelligent. Humans are primitive to him... he's 1500 years old and things that are "magic" to us, are basic kindergarten level science to him. Although to be fair, he doesn't portray that a lot in these movies. Still, at the time of the snap, Hulk wasn't brainy either

I'll always remember in theater when a lot of people were reacting to the snap. As soon as we heard "Mr Stark" everyone went dead silent. Then when he got dusted it was the strongest reaction out of everyone.

The first time I heard that line, "Mr. Stark, I don't feel so good." I immediately say that his spider senses feel he's going to die. He was the only one who can sense it means that his spider sense is one of the best superpower ever. I mean, it is obvious to every Marvels fan...

Not to be judgmental as I'm sure it is very difficult to regularly create content for everyone who posts regularly, but all of these videos about confirmations from creators, directors, writers, etc. from movies are that a few years old is starting to feel redundant (to me at least). Again, no shade intended because I can't imagine having to make new content like this on a daily/regular basis, but just an observation from a casual viewer.

I appreciate the comment, but is it really so bad to cover old topics that I find compelling? Especially since new content is covered on the channel as well, such as NWH updates and What If. I guess if you're not interested in the older explanations its not a big deal not to engage in or watch the video, i'm just confused as lots of people seem just as interested as I am in the older films and want to hear the explanations.

It's heavily hinted at that he can't control his spider sense yet just like his strength. So it actually does make sense that his Spidey sense would go haywire over a massive life threatening situation like being dusted over star lord which really wasn't a life threatening situation just like how calm Peter was the entire time starlord had him. He didn't get control over it till the end of far from home. All the MCU is doing is showing his struggles with controlling his powers over how Sony did it with Tobey and had him be a master within 30 minutes which actually doesn't make sense. Not to mention this is also the youngest live action adaptation of spiderman we have gotten yet with him being only 15 in civil war and maybe 16 come endgame

Mantis also knew. I suppose she didn't know as much and or didn't have as much will to remain. Maybe she was distracted or caught up in the wave of emotion from trillions of lives being snuffed out everywhere.

Peter Quill also took a while. He said "Oh Man" then dusted. Wanda basically cried and then stopped and surrendered to it. Fury got a pager and paged Capt Marvel and said "Motherfu..." Mantis said "Something coming" or some shit They seemed to know it was coming but people like Sam and Black Panther had no idea, BP was trying to help Okoye up so he had no idea even with his powers being a healing power due to the herb. So to wrap it up, it seems some knew it was coming and some didn't. I think being on titan might have taken it longer since they were further away. Meaning those on the same planet and the same area dusted faster and as is spread further and further away the dusting was slower. They all didn't dust at once, it was all at different times. Maybe seconds after the other. NOT how the "blip" brought everyone back instantly.

Exactly, people were always saying that it was his healing factor which would not have at all delayed the snap especially because its not even that powerful compared to others, it always made sense his spidersense was warning him of danger but since it was unavoidable it must have felt so bad because you know something is coming but cant do anything, also I dont know if he has it but other itteration have shown that the spidersense doesnt necesarilly hurt but does sting a bit when going off so possibly adding a but of a headache to that situation would mean he was already dealing with a lot
