The guy said that since this 9-year-old girl had reached puberty, she was an adult and therefore mature enough to be with a 54 yo man. How can you trust this nonsense? Who is this guy ? What he said doesn't reflect what people think inside Yemen or Afghanistan with regards to child marriage (according to their opinion, and yes I've spoken to a lot of Americans regarding this and they still feel antsy if you give them the anthropology explanation).

@F S In Biblical times people were married at a very young age. Girls were usually betrothed before they reached puberty - majority of the time the marriage would have consummated when the girl reached puberty, and that was usually between the ages of 8, 9 or older,(Note: when a girl reached puberty prior to the 20th century, she was considered to be an adult in most cultures/societies). In this article I will mostly quote Scholarly sources to prove that marriage in ancient Israelite times took place at a very young age, sometimes the girls who were married off were pre-pubescent. There was no law against a pre-pubescent girl being married off. Actually as you will read further, you will come to realise that the Mishnah gave approval for a Man to have intercourse to a betrothed girl, any-time after the age of three years old. The time, from birth of Isaac to the death of Sarah, was Thirty seven Years, And Sarah was Ninety Years old when Isaac was born; and One Hundred and Twenty Seven Years old when she died: As it is said in Gen 23:1 . Sarah was one hundred and twenty-seven years old. Behold, the Age of Isaac was Thirty Seven Years, at the Time of the Birth of Rebecca. And when he had waited for her three Years, till she was fit for marriage, he took her to wife.” According to this Account, Rebecca was a very notable Girl at three years of age. But that a girl of three Years old is fit for marriage, is maintained very plainly in the Jewish writings; particularly, in Emek Hamelech, in the following passage, ‘our blessed sags, of blessed memory, say, that a female is not fit for marriage, ‘till she is arrived at the Age of three years and one day.’

Having an fully-grown adult male, who is going to likely be larger than a teenager, mate with a young teen is not in the girl’s best interest physically. There was already evidence in the Quran and some hadiths that Aisha was older, not a little girl. Oxford University scholar Dr. Joshua Little has debunked the Aisha marital age hadith and all derivative hadiths with his 2022 PhD thesis, the most comprehensive academic study ever done on the subject of Aisha’s marital age Hadith. According to Ibn Kathir: ‘Asma was ten years elder to her sister Aisha [Al-Bidayah wan Nihayah (8/371)] Now let us look at age of Asma (ra) when she passed away: According to Ibn Hajr Al-Asqalani: Asma (ra) lived for 100 years and she died in 73 or 74 AH (Taqrib ut Tahdhib) So Asma was 28 when she migrated to Medina. That means Aisha (ra) was 18 when she migrated to Medina. And she shifted to the Prophet’s ﷺ house within a year of two after the Hijrah (migration). That proves that Aisha (ra) was between 19-21 when she consummated her marriage with the Prophet ﷺ If child marriages we're permissible wouldn't you believe that so, why would there be quran verse about

There are at least 14 hadiths Sahi that spoke about her age 6/7 yo when she got married and 9yo when he consumed the marriaged. Moslim 1422 , Bukari 5134 In the hadiths we read that she played with dolls and swung on a swing.

It's like laughing at Jesus and saying why did he always ride a donkey instead of driving a car or flying in a plane? Coz there were no cars or planes in Jesus time. The only mode of transport was the donkey so he rode the donkey however ridiculous it may seem to us in our age. You can't judge Jesus by our standards today. In the same way you can't judge Prophet Muhammad by our standards today. He lived 1500 years ago. In his time, the common culture of the Arabian peninsula and the World at large especially and including Europe was the marriage of young girls. Not only was the Prophet mentioned multiple times in Isaiah (such as the oracle concerning Arabia in Isaiah 21:13-17) but his name was mentioned in Shir Hashirim (Song of Solomon) 5:16 (Machamadim). In fact the entire narrative in that chapter talks about prominent events that happened in his life. Those verses describe exact circumstances that happened in his life when angel Gabriel revealed revelation to him.

Personally, if a person were to ask me whether or not the Prophet married a child, I would answer by saying, "you tell me what you think her age was: the books of history show that she was mentally stable to the point that she was abe to do household chores, interact and debate with people at an intelligent level despite them being senior to her, witness battles and help treat the wounded, and was able to do all that without suffering any psychological or emotional setbacks. So now you tell me how old do you think she was?" What I'm saying is that after giving all the evidences proving her maturity as an adult woman, I would ask that person to ask themselves how old they think she was. They'll definitely say that it sounds like she was in fact a fully developed adult, and that way I don't have to give them a free lesson in human anthropology :D

Except that 9-year-olds, even mentally mature ones, are not physically developed enough to safely bear children. Since the age of onset of menstruation has gotten younger over the centuries, it’s very likely that he consummated the marriage (when she was 9) before she even began menstruating, before she developed pubic hair, and possibly before she even had much breast development. Physically, a child, and no where near old enough to safely (on average) make it through a pregnancy and childbirth.

Let’s think about this rationally. Your logic would apply when you look back and consider the average man or even the kings of the past. They couldn’t know any better and they’re not held to a perfect moral standard. However, Allah is timeless, Allah is all-knowing and Allah is all-powerful. Therefore Allah would know that fucking kids would be very detrimental to them, both physically and mentally, especially when the only benefit for the man is a hedonistic pleasure. So since Allah knows this, wouldn’t you think that in his ‘final book’ and ‘final message’, he would tell his most favoured prophet that these things are wrong? Wouldn’t he also tell Muhammad that taking sex slaves is wrong? Muhammad is supposed to be the most perfect man morally, declared such so in the Quran by Allah as an example that we should follow, correct? If the Quran is the final message and Allah is timeless, that therefore means that we can apply those morals to today and we’d be allowed to diddle with kids. But you know that’s wrong, going by your reply, you have to try to rationalise it. Therefore there’s only 3 select outcomes, either Allah isn’t timeless and therefore couldn’t know the detrimental effects of what his most beloved prophet was doing. Second outcome is that Allah isn’t a moral entity and doesn’t deem it necessary to tell Muhammad that it’s wrong which therefore destroys the notion that he’s a benevolent God and should be treated as more akin to Satan. PhD Alex Jonson Muhammad and all the Prophets/Messengers of this world were perfect in the sense that they were incapable of “major sin” which even Omar explains. If they were created with any room for error, they wouldn’t pray or have the need to ask for forgiveness. And you’re right the Quran and Hadith can never change and unlike many Holy Scriptures never did change, but there is a concept of evolving contexts. That is why we have scholars to debate on circumstances today. Many women during the prophets time, even before the prophets time, got married young, and had kids at the age of 12-13, even the mother of Jesus, Maryam. Age difference was not a problem during those times that is why no one sought to attack the prophet with that until the 21st century

PhD Alex Jonson Dude were just gonna go on and on. I’m going to just sum it up here. In Islam, 3 things are required for marriage from a females perspective. Puberty, maturity, and consent. Our mother Aisha (RA) had all 3. And comparing the Earth is flat to this is utter nonsense. If the Quran said the Earth is flat, I would not be a Muslim today. There is scientific justification for that. Quran is the way of life and any ambiguities are to be interpreted through the prophet. The psychosocial maturity of Aisha surpassed that of most 9 year olds in today’s time period as did the mother of Jesus and thousands of other women at the time, who were marrying at much greater age differences than that of the prophet. In no way am I claiming the Quran and the authentic Sunnah to be wrong. Understanding society, women, and marriage at the time of Moses, Jesus, Muhammad, and today are crucial. Similar to how people today view the hijab. Christians will come up to a Muslim woman and claim it’s oppression, backwards, and downright barbaric. However in the meantime, the mother of their Lord wore the exact same thing.

However I still have concerns with child brides being allowed in Islam and that Muhammed who is considered the best role model for humanity married a child for many reasons. - women/girls who are silent are considered as giving their consent - if these women/girls are married off then they need to constantly attend to the sexual needs of their husband even if they don't want to and even if its during when they're riding a camel (marital rape) - There is no family planning and the child/woman must continue to give birth at the risk of losing her own life because healthcare wasn't as advanced back then and even if they were too poor to raise their children (if either they have little income or end up with too many children). Normally most of these children are then sold of to slavery or the weakest are left to die - It is encouraged in the Quran to first verbally admonish, then forsake in bed and then strike against married women/girls who 'show disloyalty or ill-conduct' by their husbands (psychological abuse and domestic violoence). This leads to many women and girls ending up in abusive relationships because men take advantage of this verse. There are many videos like this one here or the one your reference stating that Aisha was taken well care of by Muhammed and never once abused her. And yet there is the hadith from Aisha herself stating that Muhammed stuck her in the chest and caused her pain after he confronted her and realised that she followed him that night. This is without following the paramaters commanded in the Quran. I am aware that historically child marriage was considered normal at the time. But Islam did not completely stop this tradition like it did with burying daughters alive, nor did it at least set parameters to protect women and children from ending up in abusive relationships or even recognise their proper rights to consent for marriage, sex and child labour. Do you have any more information that addresses these specific concerns?

Child marriage is not only a problem with Muslims, but in the USA several states have introduced Age limits between 2017 and 2019. Progress is slow, but happens. This contrasts with Iraq where the government tried to introduce a law lowering the maarriage age to 8 (2017) and yemen where clerics blocked raising the marriage age. Generally speeaking child-marriages are increasing in many Islamic countries. Do you not think that degeneration is partly owing to Muahmmed/Aisha's example?

@@cbcc3029 absolutely not, the example of Mohammad SAW and Aisha RA has as much to do with lowering marriage ages in Muslim countries as the engagement ages of Mary AS at 13 to Joseph AS at 90 years to is to the increasing marriage ages in Christian countries, meaning absolutely nothing. The reason I brought Mary AS and Joseph's example here also had partly to do with making you realize that even though these ages were widely held to be true about them, current researchers hold that there is no proof or basis to those numbers. The same goes for Hazrat Aisha's RA age, where one scholar a long time (ago 200 years after her death) wrote that he heard his father say that she was 6 years old at the time of nikah and 9 years old at consummation, also that particular scholar when narrated these 2 narrations was said to suffer from memory loss during that part of his life by many other scholars. Exactly in the same way, many Muslim researchers today hold that there is no proof of her age at the time of marriage, except for the 2 narrations by a scholar whose memory was doubted by other scholars of his time during later part of his life. Secondly, as it is clear from the above video and you can search in other places as well, lower marriage age has been the norm in asian countries (India, china, arab etc.) since before the time of Mohammad SAW, even if we are to believe that Aisha RA really was 9 at the time of consummation, this marriage was not setting a trend rather following an existing trend in the continent. At that time even european countries and the west had the same age of marriage, that is puberty. A boy and a girl were considered eligible for marriage all over the world at puberty. Today however the west is increasing the legal age of marriage. Not just the age of marriage but even the age of dependency, meaning in many western countries fully grown people are considered CHILDREN until the age of 20. those 20 years olds in a vast majority of cases have become parents of 2 children themselves while still being considered CHILDREN by the state. Now sir, I have a question for you. Do you think that in the western countries, the alarmingly high number of girls 12 to 13 years olds sleeping around with older men, sneaking boys into their bedrooms, teen moms whose children not only become a burden on state financially but a burden on the mother who can not focus on the children who suffer due to the absence of a father and develop psychological problems, the majority of the population of the west being born out of wedlock has something to do with the increasing age limit of marriage (the most fertile time of the human lifecycle they are not allowed to marry, so they find other ways to fulfill their biological urges)? Not to mention the trend marrying late despite whatever the legal limits?

- At that time, in the place called Darun-Nadwa, where serious decisions such as war were taken, ceremonies of “wearing shirts” were also held for young girls who reached puberty. They began to count their ages starting from that day. For example, if a girl participated in this ceremony at the age of 10, according to Arabs, that girl would become 1 year old a year after the ceremony. When she turned 10, she actually turned 19 years old. “Darun-Nadwa” was essentially a council of nobles. The leaders of the Quraysh tribes in Makkah above the age of forty could attend this assembly, where all kinds of war and peace decisions were made, opinions were determined, wedding ceremonies and shirt-wearing ceremonies for young girls who reached puberty were held. According to Ibn Ishaq, before Qusayy had Darun-Nadwa built, those meetings were held in his house. Qurayshis were so devoted to him that wedding ceremonies used to be held in his house and any event that happened to them was discussed there; decisions to wage wars against other tribes were also made there. Clothing the girls who reached puberty in shirts was also done in his house; the part of the shirt that should be left open was torn there and put on the girl; then the girl would be taken home and dressed in a normal way. (1) The person who led that ceremony was called “muhayyid” (2). (3) The meaning of this ceremony was as follows: This girl entered puberty; anyone who wanted to marry her could marry her. That ceremony was held in the presence of everyone. (4) To sum up, it can be said that there was a custom in the ancient Arabs that a ceremony was held for a girl who entered puberty and that girls were known by their age after menstruation. Sahih Muslim 1479 a 'Umar b. al-Khattab (Allah be pleased with him) reported: When Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) kept himself away from his wives, I entered the mosque, and found people striking the ground with pebblesand saying: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) has divorced his wives, and that was before they were commanded to observe seclusion 'Umar said to himself: I must find this (actual position) today. So I went to 'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) and said (to her): Daughter of Abu Bakr, have you gone to the extent of giving trouble to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)? Thereupon she said: Son of Khattab, you have nothing to do with me, and I have nothing to do with you. You should look to your own receptacle. He ('Umar) said: I visited Hafsa daughter of 'Umar, and said to her: Hafsa, the (news) has reached me that you cause Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) trouble. You know that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) does not love you, and had I not been (your father) he would have divorced you. (On hearing this) she wept bitterly. I said to her: Where is Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)? Shesaid: He is in the attic room. I went in and found Rabah, the servant of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), sitting on the thresholds of the window dangling his feet on the hollow wood of the date-palm with the help of which Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) climbed (to the apartment) and came down. I cried: 0 Rabah, seek permission for me from Allah's Messenger (way peace be upon him). Rabah cast a glance at the apartment and then looked toward me but said nothing. I again said: Rabah, seek permission for me from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). Rabah looked towards the apartment and then cast a glance at me, but said nothig. I then raised my voice and said: 0 Rabah, seek permission for me from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). I think that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) is under the impression that I have come for the sake of Hafsa. By Allah, if Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) would command me to strike her neck, I would certainly strike her neck. I raised my voice and he pointed me to climb up (and get into his apartment). I visited Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), and he was lying on a mat. I sat down and he drew up his lower garment over him and he had nothing (else) over him, and that the mat had left its marks on his sides. I looked with my eyes in the store room of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). I found only a handful of barley equal to one sa' and an equal quantity of the leaves of Mimosa Flava placed in the nook of the cell, and a semi-tanned leather bag hanging (in one side), and I was moved to tears (on seeing this extremely austere living of the Holy Piophet), and he said: Ibn Khattab, what wakes you weep? I said: Apostle of Allah, why should I not shed tears? This mat has left its marks on your sides and I do not see in your store room (except these few things) that I have seen; Ceasar and Closroes are leading their lives in plenty whereas you are Allah's Messenger. His chosen one, and that is your store! He said: Ibn Khattab, aren't you satisfied that for us (there should be the prosperity) of the Hereafter, and for them (there should be the prosperity of) this world? I said: Yes. And as I had entered I had seen the signs of anger on his face, and I therefore, said: Messenger of Allah, what trouble do you feel from your wives, and if youhave divorced them, verily Allah is with you, His angels, Gabriel, Mika'il, I and Abu Bakr and the believers are with you. And seldom I talked and (which I uttered on that day) I hoped that Allah would testify to my words that I uttered. And so the verse of option (Ayat al-Takhyir) was revealed. Maybe his Lord, if he divorce you, will give him in your place wives better than you..." (Ixv. 5). And if you back up one another against him, then surely Allah is his Patron, and Gabriel and the righteous believers, and the angels after that are the aidera (lvi. 4). And it was 'A'isha, daughter of Abu Bakr, and Hafsa who had prevailed upon all the wives of Allah's Prophet (way peace be upon him) for (pressing them for mote money). I said: Messenger of Allah, have you divorced them? He said: No. I said: Messenger of Allah, I entered the mosque and found the Muslims playing with pebbles (absorbed in thought) and saying: Allah's Messenger has divorced his wives. Should I get down and inform there that you have not divorced them? He said: Yes, if you so like. And I went on talking to him until I (found) the signs of anger disappeared on his face and (his seriousness was changed to a happy mood and as a result thereof) his face had the natural tranquillity upon it and he laughed and his teeth were the most charming (among the teeth) of all people. Then Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) climbed down and I also climbed down and catching hold of the wood of the palm-tree and Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) came down (with such ease) as if he was walking on the ground, not touching anything with his hand (to get support). I said: Messenger of Allah, you remained in your apartment for twenty-nine days. He said: (At times) the month consists of twenty-nine days. I stood at the door of the mosque and I called out at the top of my voice: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) has not divorced his wives (and it was on this occasion that this) verse was revealed:" And if any matter pertaining to peace or alarm comes within their ken, they broadcast it; whereas, if they would refer it to the Apostle and those who have been entrusted with authority amongst them, those of them who are engaged in obtaining intelligence would indeed know (what to do with) it" (iv 83). And it was I who understood this matter, and Allah revealed the verse pertaining to option (given to the Prophet (may peace be upon him in regard to the retaining or divorcing of his wives).

My own mother Allah bless her was 16 when she met my father and barely 18, she had her first child, my big sister and then 5 more kids followed over the years. She was protestant n my father muslim. They were together until she died 3 years ago at 51. Oh three weeks to her death she decided to revert to Islam out of her own will. Those days it was normal for girls to even have kids at sixteen. Now you wyd be imprisoned in my country. Age of consent always increases with time.

my great grandma married at 10 and got 14 children, my grandma also married at 10 and got 9 children, i looked up their pictures, back then they really look like grown up lady compare to kids nowadays. Omar Sulieman has always been a favorite of mine since I watched him having a wonderful and productive cross religious discussion with Jews and Christians. I've been debating on putting together a video on how I feel about the marriage of Muhammad (s.a.w.) and Ai'shia (r.a.), but my knowledge of Islam is too unrefined. Omar said everything I had hoped to say with all the pristine details. The only thing I'd like to add is a pointed conclusion. Muhammad (s.a.w.) is the best of all creations, as many have explained this quality extends beyond religious reference and completely into "secular" perception. Omar spoke well enough already on the qualities of Ai'shia (r.a.). To roughly paraphrase a hadith, a woman should be married for four things: beauty, wealth, reputation, and imaan; and marry her for her imaan even if you live with dirt on your face. The marriage of Muhammad (s.a.w.) to Ai'shia (r.a.) /is/ a sunnah, in that it defines the insignificance of the other three qualities and the superiority of imaan. Last pre-conclusion point. Muhammad (s.a.w.) and Ai'shia (r.a.) were nearly equal in their imaan, thus their marriage was balanced and just. Conclusion, age is insignificant past puberty and we should all seek to marry or get our family married to those equal in imaan. A woman, or even a man, can marry at the age of puberty so long as they meet the relative criteria that Omar has explained, even today and so long as the law permits. Culture is not our religion, it's actually the bane of our religion in many cases and a tool of shaytan; culture should inspire concern rather than glee.

Muslim: there is no God but Allah (The word Allah simply means The One true God in Arabic. Jesus spoke aramaic and the word for God in that language is Elaha or Alaha,in Hebrew. ..Eloah or Elohim) People refuse to see the continuity of the ONE and the SAME message sent by God through different prophets at different times. Jews are stuck on Moses, Christians are stuck on Jesus, Muslim believe that Muhammad was the last prophet but we believe in Abraham, Moses, Jesus and ALL the other prophets who all had the same message. People don't accept Islam because Muhammad was an Arab but they forget that Jesus and most of the biblical prophets were very close cousins to the arabs. Muhammad said salaam alaikum, Moses said shalom alekom and Jesus in aramaic said Shlam lekon. In conclusion, God is One and his religion or message or teachings are One and consistent, the messengers or prophets changed due to time and location. Believe in One God and All the prophets from Adam to Muhammad.

Do they mean they had sexual intercourse, when they say they were married??? There is a difference between being married at a very young age and having sex at such an age. A 9yr old is a child today and was a child 1400 yrs ago. No twisting and turning can change that. It's wrong for any body whether that person is 12 yrs old child or a 50 yrs old man if they sexual interfer in anyway with a child they are wrong, guilty of a disgusting crime. Excellent talk highlighting the virtues of Hazrath A'isha and the beautiful marriage and relationship between her and the Prophet (pbuh).
