Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung observed that whatever we repress in ourselves, keeps influencing our behavior. And because for the greatest part, we aren’t aware of what’s lurking in the dark, we don’t know about the mechanisms running in the background of our psyche.
There are things about us that are easy to accept; especially things we proudly use to fill up our egos with. And these are probably characteristics that our direct environment has classified as desirable.
But if we take a peek behind the masks we wear, we find stuff that we don’t easily flaunt with. We might show these elements sparingly to some people, but in many cases, this part of the ego is off-limits to anyone but ourselves.
However, if we’d delve deeper, we arrive at a psychological structure beyond the limits of our consciousness: the Shadow.
The inner civil war takes place when there’s a conflict between who we think we are, and the characteristics of ourselves that we aren’t aware of, but are nonetheless active behind the curtain, living autonomously and influencing our behavior without our knowledge or consent.
This video explores the inner civil war, and how to your inner civil war, inspired by Carl Jung's psychology.

This is a good video, but the word 'evil' was used to describe the shadow way too much. C. Jung's shadow self is simply a personality trait that a person is not aware of having. Typically it is not an evil quality. If a man is sexually attracted to men, but is in denial about being a homosexual, then that is his shadow self. It is not ''EVIL''. That man would probably project by hating and criticising homosexuals on TV. If he suddenly realises to himself how hypocritical he's been, and accepts the truth of his sexuality, then in that instant, his shadow self is gone. It gets transformed into his conscious awareness. Now he has control over how he chooses to deal with his sexuality, instead of being unconsciously driven by it in irrational ways. Another prime example of shadow is if a lady gossips quite a lot. If she believe that she is very discreet, and passionately condemns other people who gossip, then that is her shadow self. Her denial about being a gossip is annoying, but it is not ''evil''.

@mdmmalou

Although we are all somewhat alike and blanco by birth, Its dangerous to project your own personal intentions onto others. Like: I mean well, so the other probably means well too. Or statements such as: ' Others are just a mirror of you' No its not! Many people fill in the other in a way that suits their own ego self. They make you someone you are not and never will/can be. Parents are a good example of false projection onto their children. If you dont listen your a bad kid. The kid feels unsafe, becomes sad bc it never had bad intentions but wasnt able to explain with words. Parents see an angry child and project "annoying child" bc they're afraid its personal.. So the child needs some punishement. Give no attention to it, or without food to bed, or in the hallway with it, or worse give it a slap. Many misunderstandings arise in early childhood bc of valse mirroring. This doesn't mean we are all killers or mother Teresa. Just stop projecting onto others. Dont use others as a mirror for your lack or shadow side. They cant be you.

Everybody has wounds, everybody has fears, everybody has violent instincts. You mustn't through that away and believe that you can be only light, because those are the worse kind of people. Healing doesn't make the scars desapear, they will hurt sometimes, like a bone that has been broken will hurt before raining or something like that. But because it hurts you there, you will be able to understand others better on that where you had the biggest battles.

It's a good video, but the word 'evil' was used too much. Your summary of the video is correct. The shadow self isn't typically evil, although in some cases it can be. Someone, for example, could be a selfish driver, and be in denial about it. He may become annoyed and rant when other people drive even slightly selfishly. That selfishness being projected is his unconscious shadow self. Selfish driving rude, but not ''evil''.

I was journalling about accepting and loving myself when I saw this video on my KZbin feed. It's like divine timing for me to watch this, when I clearly have been at war with myself for so long it is wearing me out. It all makes sense, to accept, to reconcile with our shadow self, and it's easier said than done to accept things we don't like about ourselves and others. Converting the shadow, setting it free.

There is a constant battle between the egoic personality self and the authentic true real Self for control of the human being. It's a struggle trying to maintain the True Self amidst life's appearances, suggestions and temptations. The effects of external appearances, suggestions is hypnotic and mesmerizing. One falls prey to these temptations moment by moment where the true Self is overwhelmed and overidden by our over identification with the egoic personality self.

When you stop seeing the world as good and bad, it is just normal and flowing with time. I think this is the wholeness of "good" and "bad" just becoming normal. I'm not a "good" or "bad" person, just a person overall. The peace I gained after shadow work has allowed me to eliminate, eliminate might be the wrong word, but have an equalization of my being. Negative and positive doesn't exist in my inner world as to my waking world, everything is normal to me and been normal for a few years. No chaos or inner struggles, just peace and calmness.

I thought this was very moving. I've had a few spectacular clashes with my shadow self over the years. I find being as honest as I know how with people to be very liberating. If I'm talking with someone and notice I'm struggling to agree with them, or actually have the feeling that my throat's constricting, it's time to either confront them (politely if possible) or retreat entirely and note that encounter for possible future action.

I find it chilling to realize that personal experience creates a mechanical response to the moment to moment experience. It is very difficult to change personality. Like we naturally adapt to the momentum of the past. I know many very smart people who have personal problems they seem to be stuck with. An example would be changing diet. Or obsessing about certain people. Knowing is often insufficient to change. Chilling in the shadow.

I discovered this all on my own. And that's why I think I am better for it. Accepting what I have done and seeing who I have denied myself to be.

So i prescribe to the concept that OnceUponATime addressed, which is that darkness isn't evil, it's just alone. Light, therefore, isn't good it is simply having people around you. Then you look at the opposite-world south park. "Evil-cartman" is actually super nice, but he is alone and considered a shadow-personality to be rejected among his evil peers. Considering the context is important for understanding the individual's shadow and if we can apply shadow work to individuals from rough backgrounds perhaps we can more effectively rehabilitate them.

Of course you mentioned Fight Club! One movie I've always related to! The inner turmoil is REAL😳 Don't hurt yourself in the process of trying to cope with things, it can get bad fast! Stay safe all. I think comedy is very helpful for this suffering!!!!

Omg 😳. I watched this before bed and I had a dream I was looking outside my apartment, there is a field right outside, and a white and black wolf were visiting. They were both huge but the black one a bit bigger. They were just walking around but would always look at me. It was oddly peaceful... even though you could see it as an invasion, it didn’t feel like it. If it were real life I guess it would’ve felt like a more dangerous situation, but in dreams our brain knows it’s being feed symbols, even if we don’t fully realize we are in fact dreaming. What an experience. Dream interpretation is definitely a big one here.
