Easily one of my favourites. Didn't get to finish mine, abandoned it halfway through due to IRL stuff but looking at yours and others.. The level of quality in these submissions is insane. The top contenders surely must be industry professionals lol, wouldn't even be able to compete either way.

Wow this is really cool, I saw the original and it's awesome to see how you did it now. The animation and rendering was super unique and stylised. You are full of brilliant ideas bro!

thanks so much! the concept definitely changed over time, but it ended up being set in some sort of world with plant-based warfare.

i was already familiar with cinema 4d, so that definitely helped when learning the other programs. e.g. i had wanted to learn maya for a long time, and this turned out to be a good opportunity to finally give it a go! i didn't really have time to watch tutorials and properly learn from scratch, so i just treated it as if i was using cinema 4d and googled things as problems came up. a lot of the fundamentals were similar, but the button layout was very different. maybe it's like playing a game and switching from mouse/keyboard to a controller, haha? hope that helps!

yep! the song is them changes by thundercat. my favourite part is the bridge, but always thought it would be cool with strings and horns. i downloaded the vocal-only track and redid the instrumental part in ableton. if you want, i can upload the track as unlisted and link it here.

a mix of different programs. animation in maya, cloth sims in marvelous designer, tree sims in speed tree, texturing in substance painter, sand sims in cinema pyro, then everything imported as alembic into cinema 4d for blocking and lighting, then rendered in octane. hope that helps!
