And that my friend is why I stopped surfing when I started foiling. It’s been nearly 4 years since I haven’t surfed after surfing for 20+ years (10 of those as a professional surfer). It’s really really really fun!

I'll bet that jumping up and down can wear you out, I'd just bring a Roo (kangaroo?) .. This is only about the 6th video I've seen of these foils, never heard of this before this month. I initially thought they were motorized lol, absolutely amazing, this comment coming from an ancient kid that grew up surfing. This looks like such an improvement in so many ways, to what we used to do. I can't imagine why anyone is out in the water with a conventional surfboard after discovering these foils, so amazing.
@misterbennetts Жыл бұрын
Haha yeh it’s a good workout. It’s the future of surfing for sure. There is literally no down days with the foil. It’s amazing!
@bikersoncall Жыл бұрын
@@misterbennetts That's cool, I guess that on the worst days, you can still get out, workout, and even though nothings breaking, catch some of the swells. That's one aspect that amazes me most, the fact that you can catch so many swells that you couldn't possibly catch on a conventional board, and on an average day, many of those will eventually break and give a fun ride.

Absolutely gorgeous, but let's be clear about the music: what you hear is a reworking of the main theme of Ryuichi Sakamoto's music for the movie, Mr Christmas Mr Lawrence. A sublime piece of music to begin with - all they did was add a beat. 'Double Touch' or whoever chose this needs to acknowledge their debt - it is mostly 'borrowed'.
@misterbennetts Жыл бұрын
Yes for sure, it’s a rework/remix, but what Double Touch did is make this beautiful song playable in a DJ set. The percussion and drums make the song ‘danceable’ without taking away from the original. I absolutely love it!

Sydney bodysurfer here. I feel like my body is now old school! Beautiful location and footage, excellent production and totally inspiring to watch. Presuming you have been a surfer for some time, was it a tough transition? Does it feel like you work harder foiling than surfing? You probably get better heads up on the surf with the extra foot of height I'm guessing. Thanks Adam - I'm blown away. Cheers - Dave
@misterbennetts6 ай бұрын
Hi mate! Thanks for the kind words. Yeh I’ve surfed for 25+ years. It was definitely a tough transition; it’s really hard being in such a familiar environment but everything is so foreign. But then one day it all just clicks and then you have a bunch of ‘aha’ moments and you end up progressing through the learning process quite fast. So you get better pretty quickly. Definitely work way harder than in surfing, purely because you get so much ride time and you aren’t just limited to 1 wave per ride, it can take you through 5-10 waves and 3-5 mins at a time. I usually do between 500-1000 calories in a 1 hour session, depending on conditions. It’s truly mind blowing what’s possible with these things, it opens up every single body of water - waves or no waves! 🤙🏼
@clintoruss1535 ай бұрын
@@misterbennettsthese things are insane to me, absolutely mind blowing, the way you can keep going even when the wave is done is amazing, it must feel like you are gliding or flying above the water. I watched one of laird Hamilton s foiling sessions in big waves and it was unbelievable, just flying on the wave . I already have many hobbies, a family and a full time job so no time here, but are they expensive, I know the ones with engines are very very expensive

@@misterbennetts that's inspiring to know. I have thought of trying out one of those electric assisted foil boards or possibly a wing foil set up or a padle board style. I think I'd need to cheat to begin with Some way of compensating for my physical limitations until I'm handy at it.
@misterbennettsАй бұрын
Yeh the Fliteboard’s are a great into to it. And then wing foiling is also a good way to get some time on foil. With a big enough board you can stand on the board with the sail and it pulls you onto foil. Give it a try!

@@misterbennetts I read that you use -1 shim on the mast, just curious what that does and is that with the thick part at the back? Cheers
@misterbennetts Жыл бұрын
Yeh once again depends on the brand. I use a shim on the front bolts with the eagles on the F-one for more front foot pressure. Same with the lift foils. With something like Axis I’d use a shim in the back bolts to take out the front foot pressure cause they have way too much. It’s just a way of tuning the feel without moving the mast.

Like kite surfing these are easy to ride and master. Sure it will take some days/weeks to get the gist of it, but after that it's like snow skiing. The wave isn't dictating what you can do, you are. That makes it boring after a short period. And you'll note that the guys doing it - like kite surfers - are wankers who weren't ever really good surfboard riders. Any idea why?
