I will say this, though I realized after this after I made my comment. The commander only triggers once a turn. So you only get at max three procs and that’s on each of your opponents turns.

I play a Yurlok deck that feels like the opposite side of the same coin. This one is straight pain for everyone whereas Yurlok is extra mana... for pain 😂

I like that Lord of Pain and Ob Nixilis are great includes in this deck that gain some extra benefit by being easy straight swaps as commander to change up your deck a little

Adding budget friendly cards: Ancient Runes, Price of Knowledge, Collapsing Borders also trigger Valgavoth nice and steady 😊 Also,. The deck relies heavily on boardwipes. Because you WILL become the arch enemy. Adding broad creature removal pyrohemia/pestilence, starstorm, (Rolling) Earthquake to wipe te board and push your opponent further to zero. Could be game enders. Be careful for your own life total.

The lord of pain is dealing damage to “another target player”, key word being another. It’s not doing damage to the player whose turn it is

We are winning by burning players life totals out and bringing them incredibly low not every card has to to trigger the commanders effect for it be good. Lord of pain could win games on its own if not killed and given you are in black you can just bring it back. Pair that with exquisite blood you don’t need to waste a slot on nighthawk scavenger

Just saying I love your deck tech on this one. Feels like you are very aware that removal is an actual thing in MTG and one thing this deck can struggle with is when your createures get blown up. Me for myself I will include a small reanimator package as well just in case because im paranoid lmao

Ob nix is a stronger commander as he has ways to combo out. But some of us want to squeeze the life out of the table in other ways

After brewing and watching some gameplay, i think Ob plays different but not necessarily stronger (yes i know its a one card win on with All will be one). One exiles the cards and makes those cards public knowledge vs. being able to draw (admittedly at a lesser rate) but you get to keep the card and your opponents don’t know what was drawn so you maintain the advantage of them not being able to plan in advance for it. Ob is also easier to remove and in my playtesting is a bigger removal target because opponents get tunnel visioned from seeing the mass card advantage instead of the incremental advantage that valgavoth gives.

Alright, so here’s the deal. The budget upgrade is solid, no doubt, but let's talk about a non-budget version that really elevates things. I was interested in this precon at first, but man, the cards they threw in there are just awful. It’s the most expensive precon from Duskmourn, yet somehow also the weakest. Kinda funny, right? But listen, with the right upgrades, this thing can absolutely be a powerhouse

It's not just all about the commander. My last 3 games i won and indidnt rven need to olay Valgavoth. All those tiny pings is ehat does all the real damage and that imo is ehat matters in this deck. Plus there are tons of other cards in other people's decks that make all the oinging damage go off in just a few turns
