I remember seeing an interview of a golden age Hollywood screenwriter: he said it was definitely a studio strategy for the heroic genres (action, western etc.), from McCarthyism onwards, to promote fascist-style hero worship. Then again in the 1980s with Reaganism and again now with Silicon Valley-influenced tech-enhanced Marvel heroes. I think people will grow tired of it though and we'll go back to the more vulnerable film characters and low-key situations of the 40s, 60s-70s and 90s ❤

You’re annoying. Natasha’s just mad she’s not a part of it, but if they offered her anything in any marvel movie tomorrow she’d be all over it. Marvel haters are the most unoriginal, hollow people - I’d rather hang out with a kid obsessed with Iron Man comics

re: first caller, with all due respect and compassion, it's not the child's responsibility to make you feel safe, it's actually the reverse. Adults have to make sure that children feel safe and that their autonomy is respected. Guy is very much right, give the kid her space, do NOT make a kid give you a hug if they dont want it, that is VERY old school expectations to have of kids. We as children back in the day were made to do stuff like this, and we have new info now. It's time for a software update across the board in how we relate to children now. take care of your own emotions when things come up around kids. It's very normal to have things emotionally come up in us as adults, when we see kids act a certain way.

With the exception of you thinking that the caller was telling the child to hug her (it was the child's mom, not the caller doing so) you are right about parenting in general. However, I do think this is a slightly gray area where the child is talking about wanting somebody to die and it is important for the child to learn that what you say can affect others in general. When parents don't teach their children this, that child can easily become very rude and only consider their own emotions. The child is only 4 though so I don't think anything needs to happen yet unless this goes on for a while as the child ages more.

The lady fighting with the four year old- the kid is jealous of your relationship with the mom, and she also has a crush on your husband and wants you to die so her mom and your husband can be together (or be with her). Guys advice on avoidance and Polly Pockets will work perfectly. To the lady with loud eating coworker; you have to have a conversation and you have to put it on yourself. “I’m really sensitive to A, B, C….could you stop X, Y, Z or avoid E, F, G or just even give me a heads up when you’re about to eat so I can prepare myself and adjust”

Ya know, I was a hard liberal until the last few years of (your adjective here) but now I do see how obnoxious it is to immediately say you hate anything that doesn't fall under your team's umbrella. It's very distracting and makes me feel like they're less free-thinkers than I originally thought they were. Still funny tho! I can finally enjoy stuff I don't full agree with.

Maybe the kid is just a Jeselnik fan with a dark sense of humor. Anyway, when the kid says something seemingly out of pocket, maybe she should try to diffuse it with a silly remark to get the kid to laugh and establish a rapport. Acting like you're taken aback just reinforces that adversarial dynamic.
@youaresoneighborly Жыл бұрын
I disagree, she needs to know that you're the adult and she needs to be more respectful. The Mom is allowing the kid to be a disrespectful little s×××. She can learn on the playground or she can be taught at home.

The Marvel line hit because I thought this was an episode with Kingpin in it who was doing a podcast for some reason...but they missed an opportunity with the 2nd caller (I also have misophonia) but for her just to say after COVID she has an intense reaction to the SMELL of food and therefore can't be around anyone who is eating. That way, it's not about the eating, its about the smell. Then either Elise or that person could remove themselves from the situation with zero conflict or drama. Just say it's the smell...

I've noticed the term 'nepo baby' is frequently used in discussions. However, I'd like to suggest a reconsideration of this term as it phonetically resembles 'nepi baby,' which could be uncomfortable or misleading. Let's find a different term that accurately conveys the message without potential misunderstandings. Thanks for considering this!"

Pigments definitely don’t raise HDL. But I know he’s joking😅. Also, Jane Fonda donated all the proceeds from aerobics. She’s my favorite nepo baby. Taylor swift uses a private jet a LOT (she’s definitely one of the top people polluting the world). One of my least favorite nepo babies after all the republicans. I will also say the nicest people don’t have articles written about how much money they give people. There are so many female artists who are so much better and don’t pollute the world quite as much and didn’t have super wealthy parents. As far as woman in comedy: my favorite joke is Maria Bamford’s impression of God. Even as an atheist, I love it. 😅
@JDMimeTHEFIRST Жыл бұрын
Nepotism does need to be illegal. It’s insane that there is no one who is rich who didn’t have a wealthy parent. I’m a better writer than most screenwriters from what I can see, but my parents weren’t rich so no one will ever know. And I’m sure many others feel the same way. Maybe the senate and Congress would be better too if we had less nepo babies there.

@HH-gv8mx Жыл бұрын
Oh, I totally disagree with Natasha and Moshe about that little asshole kid. I think the onus is on the parent. The parent should be teaching that child good manners and apparently the parent is teaching the child that that behavior is acceptable. The mother should have the child apologize or the very least the parrot should apologize to her best friend. It’s not that hard.

Eating noises are terrible to me, the sound gets louder in my mind and all other sounds are droned out. The coworker will not change, if she does, it'll be temporary, she's been eating this way for more than two decades. So my advice is move to another cubicle/desk.

The issue I have is that if you ask people to stop doing their annoying thing, they will apologize and stop - but then 5 minutes later they'll go back to doing it. They won't realize they're doing it. You can continually ask them to stop, but then you just seem crazy. There is no solution aside from leaving the room, headphones, avoidance, etc.

@annabriggs4088 Жыл бұрын
In my opinion not necessarily, some people have been abused or bullied and can be triggered even by a child being mean to them. I wouldn't expect an apology but I can see how some people might find it upsetting especially if they don't have kids.
