We’ve owned a lot in a class A only resort in the Gulf Shores/Orange Beach, AL area for 7 years. We are so glad we pulled the trigger to buy our lot. When we’re not using the lot it’s rented over 80% of the time and the community rental program does a great job managing the whole process. A lot of folks have told me that buying a lot is a waste of time and money because they bought their RV to travel and not stay in one place. For whatever reason they can’t comprehend the fact that the lot can be rented and ultimately cover all cost and even make a little money so you can travel in your RV. Also, my lot has appreciated in value as you mentioned so it is an investment. Not sure why they don’t get it. Like Myaka, we have an HOA which does have restrictions on what you can do to your lot but as I learned you can make a case for change in the rules and, if the change is reasonable, you can actually change the rules. Our community is over 15 years old and it is in the top 10 RV resorts in the country which I attribute to having the HOA. The only downside, in my view, is the restriction on Class A only. I submitted a proposal to allow Super C’s in the resort and you would have thought I was the devil reincarnated. I’m not sure why folks are so adamant about the class A only restriction but that is one battle that may be difficult to conquer.

We own two RV lots in Punta Gorda. It’s actually Class A and Airstream only. Now that is another story. It’s 55+ older and it’s like adult day camp. We rent one of our lots out that covers HOA fees and property taxes for both lots. We come in October and leave May 5th. My husband works from home so this perfect for us. I’m retired.

We purchased about a year ago at a BEAUTIFUL resort in Florida called Motorcoach Resort at Port St. Lucie. We prefer the East Coast of Florida over the West Coast. It has everything we need including a golf course! We have a large tiki with an outdoor kitchen right on a lake overlooking the golf course. We love the outdoor living. I don't get the whole house or casita on an RV lot thing, we can live in the RV. I do enjoy that we are a Class A only resort as your is. I think it adds an air of class and keeps ascetics uniform (no, we are not rich snobs). Best of all, as you said in your video, our "lot" is now valued $60K over what we purchased it for a year ago. Is it for everyone, no, but watching your video on purchasing a year ago is what help us decide to do it. We are glad we "took the plunge"!

We do not own in an RV Resort but we do rent a seasonal lot in Michigan. For us this is great because our sticks and bricks is in an HOA and we cannot keep our Class A there. The cost for us is roughly what we would pay to rent a storage place near where we live!We love that we have established relationships at the campground and many of them have become year round friends. Kind of the best of both worlds!

Very straightforward, open and honest pros and cons views of owning property in an RV resort, MJ and Izzy. I think you bought at exactly the right time; prices are definitely trending higher and the Myakka River Motorcoach Resort is upscale without being pretentious, a perfect place in a convenient location. Do you think you might want to build a small house there someday?

Lots have recently sold over 20% what we paid 1 year ago which is what were hoping for and winter rentals are booked 1 year in advance. The area is exploding with development. Not sure about the house until we have a better feel how much and how long we would use it.

My strategy - to buy a resort property / condo - on the ocean in another country (I did in Ecuador ) and whenever / and wherever I am - I just put my rv in storage for a few months (2-4) and visit - then return and go back on the road - like you rent out your rv lot - I rent out my condo for income BTW - Where I bought it’s between 71-83 degrees year round. Oh and my yearly property taxes??? $412 a year.

RVing is a individual choice decision, meaning everyone does it for their own reasons. Over the years, I've owned a number of nice homes, all of them require maintence, sometimes at a high cost, that's life, so RVing, like anything, boils down to affordability. It is all about creating memories, can't put a cost on that, but some people create their own memories, their way! Monetarily, RVing is not a good financial investment, but when factoring in those memories, who cares, it is not even debatable!

We own our own lot in Boulder City NV. I agree with you on both the pro and cons. We love the area and wanted something west coast that’s not 55+ and since we have a 5th wheel there are some limits since owners resorts are often motorcoach resorts (at least the nice ones). If a manufacturer would make a Class A with a separate office space away from the bedroom then we’d get one but as a working full time traveler I need the garage space for my office.

Personally I myself would never purchase or be part of a HOA, but that is just me O'yea my wife either. Just find a good yardman it will cost you a lot less. But in you case I can see because you do rent it out while you are not using. Maybe I could change my mind in the place where you are purchasing it . I have owned land in a place like this, but I'm thinking of purchasing 54 areas of land about 30 min from Knoxville, Tn. Yea that would be a good ideal I could sale a few lots at reduce prices but make lots 1/2 areas . That will be sometime down the road but I'm know I will do this later.

@@jimcolts I’m so glad to hear you pray to God everyday! Please read John 3:5 and Acts 2:38. So many people think they are saved and going to Heaven but they aren’t… we have to follow God’s way and plan to salvation! The OT was our Schoolmaster bringing us to Christ and now we understand the NT is Spirit. Don’t let the lies of this world fool you! You aren’t saved unless you have repented, been baptized in the NAME of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins (not titles, Acts 4:10-12) and filled with the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues! I think you missed the hidden cost, you pay for this when you camp elsewhere. To take a trip your base cost is high. This might prevent trips because you already have a site to go to. At $100k that is $27 a day over 10 years. The other con is these have zero value to the next generation. Owning and maintaining a Class A is not easy for someone with young kids. They will immediately put it for sale at a low price to get out of it. In the next 5-10 years these will flood the market.
