2011 BMW K1600GTL Road Review

I really like and enjoy my 2018. except for one thing: It feels a bit 'twitchy' beginning at about 90 mph. At anything over 100, it begins to feel like I'm about to fly off the roadway. This is with all the luggage in place and largely empty. I have not remover the top case or side bags to see if there is an improvement. If anyone has a suggestion or comment about this please leave a comment. On the other hand, the bike is amazingly smooth and powerful and flicks in and out of the twisties absolutely effortlessly. More 'Sport' than 'touring' in this 'Sport Tourer'. For me, it's very comfortable, I ride all day long and love it. The acceleration, whether from a stop or rolling on, is just awesome! You just can't believe your on a 'big' bike. The Shift Assist Pro is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT! Crank the throttle, hold it steady and just tap the shifter. A human could not possibly shift it better than the machine itself. The braking is insanely capable, smooth and confidence inspiring. I had to do a panic stop the other day and even with the machine in "rain mode" it STILL didn't kick in the ABS. Stopped so hard I thought I might do a 'stoppie' but nope, just hauls it down in a hurry with only the slightest front end dive. All in all, if the high speed aspect were more solid and confidence inspiring, I'd have to think this is the perfect machine. But hey, that's just me. It is made to flick in and out of corners, so you have to pay attention on the highway. It won't tolerate daydreaming on the Superdrone like a Goldwing might. I live for the backroads and tolerate the highway to get me to them, so for me, it's a perfect fit. Can hardly wait to get this to the Dragon!...

is this bike any better than the 2011 G 650 GS you sold me that is losing its tail lights/license plate while you are driving and needs to have the starter relay changed once a year, or leaking oil from the top of the oil pan, under 10,000 km ?

Hey, thanks for the question. I am 5'11" on a good day. I am not the tallest guy in the world. My feet were comfortably on the ground. I know there is a bigger/different seat available, but because it was a floor model, the dealer was not willing to just exchange it, but wanted to charge me full price. Truth be told, the seat is just one of the reasons I will not get it. The noise at speed beyond 60 MPH sealed my decision. D radio is just not effective at speeds greater than 50 to 60 MPH. Cheers

I have an overnight demo bike at home right now. Two things: I find the low stock seat is EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE. And, the cockpit is actually quite LOUD as in, too much noise from the engine. In these two counts, how does the Goldwing compare? Thanks!

Nope. Once it's a little faster than walking speed, it seems to drop 200 lbs, faster than that, it just gets lighter and sportier. Just amazing.
