Back in my teens, I was doing this on my quad (Suzuki Quadracer 250). Much smaller hill but just as steep. One run my front wheels came up, and I veered to the side of the path where a big hole was. Looped out fully and bailed off the back. Once I rolled to the bottom of the hill, I started to get up on my hands and knees. My quad did a full flip down the hill and landed square on top of me! Glad I had on full race gear, cracked my helmet and put a huge gash from a bolt into the back of my chest protector. I was ok, just knocked the wind out of me. Never rode without gear ever!

This video truly captures the essence of hill climbing and the sheer determination of the participants. Watching the athletes tackle those steep inclines and challenging obstacles is both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. It’s amazing to see how they push themselves to their limits, especially when faced with a tough climb like Arette. I noticed how some riders seemed to have a technique that gave them an edge, particularly in managing their speed and momentum. I wonder if certain strategies could be shared among participants to help them improve. The community aspect of these events is fantastic, with everyone cheering each other on. It makes me think about how much teamwork plays a role, even in what seems like an individual sport.
@Llyander3 ай бұрын
So this might be a silly question, but presumably after every race the hill is progressively more and more messed up and the ruts are deeper and deeper. Is any attempt made to repair the damage between races or is there just going to be a point where things are too messed up to be climbed and they need to pick a new spot?
@oohahitsanrccar19133 ай бұрын
Surely the first riders groove out a line further up the hill so later rider can go that bit more

Good question, short answer is no. Nothing is done. Look up the Andler hill climb. It's documented on YT since early 2010s. It was a dirt hill then. It's just rocks now, cool to see the transition over the years after all the hill climbs ate the side of the hilll away.
@supermikeb2 ай бұрын
yeah, I think the ruts and loose top soil would make things worse as it's being used more. Ruts would give more traction, but you can't really balance if you're stuck in a rut.

Raise the foot pegs 30cm? Drop the handle bars forward? These bikes have evolved to meet this hill, yearly. Such amazingly specialized machines! I think raising the footpegs or addng a second pair for the top half of the climb could result in more full pulls. Supercrossers can get their helmet near the front fender sometimes when going vertical. Mabye drop the handlebars like a crotch rocket's bars. Or reverse ape-hanges from a chopper? Inspired by, but purpose built for this beastly hill. I love watching this hill climb year after year. I think if they rode more like jockeys on race horses. Or something. Surely, I've solved the problem. They can change the pegs at the dealer, right?

My brother used to race speedway. He was literally scouted at a track day when he was just going around a track on his bike. He raced for a few years until my mum possessed him to stop as she didn't want him to get her as speedway bikes don't have breaks and she couldn't get over that. He did trails after that. He would love this sadly he has epilepsy now so isn't allowed on a bike. He had so much skill on a bike it was unbelievable. He could ride a motorbike before a push bike. I did motor cross for a year but same thing my mum hates bikes and talked me into quitting. Our family have a natural skill for it. My cousins, uncles, my dad my brother's all involved in bikes in one way or another. Never done hill climbing before. Trials is the closest i have tried but it wasn't my thing too many things to be aware of. where as motor cross I could just get into a flow.
