I remember the ANGRBODA mod on God Of War Ragnarock, that as a Black guy myself i wanted the original design which was a very beautiful white woman, instead of the black insufferable girl that atreus meets, but they noticed we were downloading that in mass and removed it. Nexus' TOS says that mods changing the creative vision of the game creator are not allowed but they only enforce the policy in one direction. Any mod that alters gender ideology aligned content is mass reported by activist users and removed immediately but the site is full of mods allowing homosexual relationships with characters that were originally heterosexual. It's also fine for them to host mods race swapping white characters but the opposite is immediately removed. Anything that aligns with leftist ideology is perfectly fine for them but if someone uploads a mod opposed to leftist ideology it is immediately removed and the creator likely banned.

Nexus are a bunch of hypocrites, they claim they not only won't host mods that are _against diversity_ but also won't list games either that don't follow that policy and yet they still host Insomniac's Spiderman. The so called "mod" that replaces all the rainbow flags with the US ones is barely even a mod: all it does is change a variable in the game's code so no matter what the game's region is set to the middle east which causes the game internal code to overwrite certain assets from the base western version and one of them is replacing the flags. The point is that the function to remove the rainbow flags *it's part of the game's source code* which shows that despite the developers posing as _allies_ they are willing to throw their "cause" away to publish the game in a region in which said cause is not tolerated for more sales. It's all performative showing for Twitter points, if Nexus actually cared they would removed the game from their site, but since it gives them visits and therefore ad money it's easier to pin the blame on a single guy that all it did was alter a file to enable _hidden_ logic within the game's code under the pretense that he actually made the whole thing.

None of these are serious competitors (except maybe the first), and I'm unfamiliar what happens when mods get posted on any of these sites that they don't like, but you might also try: - ModsDB: this is a site that, from my experience, seems to have become very popular and heavily utilized among the Eastern European crowd, hosts mods for the Metro series of games as well as the series of games which Shadow of Chernobyl is apart (I'm unsure if I can say that series title here). - AFKMods: A forum site, from my understanding, run by Arthmoor, a modder who creator / was involved with such mods as "The Unnoficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch" as well as many more amazing mods for Skyrim. He, at least, claims that his ideology aligns less with Nexus (I'm unsure if such is battle-tested) but he's also stated that he doesn't want political content on his site, if I recall correctly (what that means and extends to from his perspective: I don't know). - GameBanana: someone else in the comments here mentioned this site. I was familiar with it for stuff like fan-games and rom-hacks but didn't know that, apparently, they have pc mods as well. Again, none if these are going to compete with Nexus, but they are, at least, options. Honestly, going federated probably wouldn't be a bad idea in this context. Having a uniform set of basic API standards which would allow for different mod aggregation sites or software to tap into for displaying and downloading mods would be pretty cool. For example, the creator of that BG3 mod that made a big news stink a few months back is now hosting that mod on their own website for people to download (or, at least, they were). If people were to just host their own mods (or use a site like GitHub), this would, theoretically, solve the problem, albeit: mods would become somewhat more difficult to access, probably with less qol features that come with one, authoritarian choice. Not to mention, the community would be split into fragments of its former self and mods might go unnoticed by aggregation sites.

That's the main problem here. Nexus simply has too many good mods for people to go elsewhere. Alternatives DO exist, but none have a mere fraction of mods nexus has. In fact, if you combine all these alternatives into one huge service, it will MAYBE have 10-20% of nexus mods if lucky.

as a casual gamer these days, my question is, why do gamers support, go to and use Nexus Mods? All I'm reading over and over is "I wish there was a competitor site but they have the awesome whatever this or that..." and then gamers continue to use Nexus's services. IF i knew of a wesbite that had all the same mods as Nexus that modders cross-posted to then i would go there. Any competitors are currently buried and are only known through niche communities. buried enough that not even the modders are cross-posting there as comprehensively as we would like. that's the problem. Nexus has built itself up as the best choice and then proceeded to abuse its users KNOWING they have nowhere to go.

As an ex hardcore modder that has kinda stopped using nexus since 2020 (still visited from time to time if i got hit by a phase ig), it's mostly because Nexus is the only place where a lot of modders want to release their mods and not to mention their free manual download is still uncapped to win over the casual modders (i'm one of 'em now). And yeah, it's also because there's no alternative place where the mods in Nexus are uploaded and one that could compare with Nexus services imo. To me, it was about just modding Skyrim and Blade and Sorcery to whatever way I wanted it to be. There was one mod that was for Blade and Sorcery (A cure to Facism) that allows you to go toe to toe with soldiers of the Third Reich, which gave me the idea of making a character who was part of the Wehrmacht and was against the SS, but I learned that you can only wear the uniform from wolf brigade and not the uniform that the infantry wore, which was a literal, rotten shame, because it would be nice to wear the infantry uniform when using weapons like the MP-40, STG-44, and Kar98k, and then wear the uniform of Wolf Brigade when using weapons like the MG-42! But the bottom line for me is that I understand that the Woke Mind Virus has infected Nexus Mods, but until I can find another way which is as simple as Nexus, I won’t abandon the only option that I have.

I like Nexus. Or, liked. Once i started hearing reports about them taking down mods for being "exclusive and discriminatory," my desire to use and support them tanked greatly. I read, in one instance, where a mod author made a male version of Aelyn in Baldur's Gate 3, so that the character and their partner wouldn't be a lesbian relationship anymore. They swiftly removed the mod. I would understand removing a mod if it contained hate speech or threats, but at this point they're just silencing people they disagree with. I don't really care if you think my mod isn't inclusive enough, it's my choice to play using it, and nobody is being forced to use it. Nexus, however, are now forcibly denying access to this content, slandering its creator, and forcing players to be exposed to content they do not enjoy or agree with. Hyprocrisy at it's finest.

@@geoffreymarkin7355 Yes it is hard to overcome momentum. but the real problem would be A) building a site that works as well as the nexus and B) getting all the modders to make the shift. As far as I'm aware Nexus is still primarily known for Bethesda mods. I'm aware it has also been hosting mods for hundreds of other games but the main inertia factor is the Bethesda modding scene. Get them to move to a new host and the rest will likely follow.

Gotta disagree with ya on the ending mods for Fallout Endy, if you know about old Fallout, it makes sense because the kids were supposed to be that moral grey area, they could be targeted, and you'd wind up with an evil perk if you even accidentally buried one that would see you shunned throughout the wasteland, but they were still mortal. If you're tuning Skyrim or Fallout to be more survival-oriented, it only makes sense to remove the "Protect this NPC" plot armor that exists in Bethesda games, so even if your argument is that the plot armor is justified, it's only justified in the context of a standard playthrough, and isn't only valid for a mass-ending sort of playthrough. Also, on the topic of kids wandering the wastes as settlers in Fallout... that actually makes way more sense than nuclear or even single-parent combinations showing up, lotta times parents will protect their kids even to their own end, leaving the kid to ultimately fend for itself after they're gone in war-torn times, so wandering orphans shouldn't be a shock when things are as turbulent as they are in Fallout... though to be fair, there is a massive plot-hole regarding how long before the earth heals from the bombs... but that's me being a glittering gem of hatred and I'll spare ya.

@@Zigfried207 Post-Apocalypse and Dystopia needs to have a moral underpinning, yeah, some chuckle-clown might get giggly over stuff they are forbidden from doing in real life, but to divest strong moral components from these types of fiction will ultimately make it worthless. The point of it is to come face-to-face with the cruelest thing you can stomach and force moral questions. How many mouths can you feed, can you support one more, will this one stab you in your sleep at the behest of a local raider, will they run off into the night looking for parents that aren't among us anymore? Children are the greatest Achilles heel of the post-apoc hardass, and can quickly show to both the player, and possibly the other characters in the scene just what kind of person they're actually dealing with.

as someone who has been into modding minecraft, terraria, skrim, fallout, kerbal space program 1 and 2, farming sim 17-25 and about a dozen different games for the better part of a decade, yeah nexus mods is a total dumpster fire, they allow literal open child smut on their site yet I got my account (which had multiple mods published and was 7 years old and had been paid for 6 of them) permanently banned for a joke I told on their discord, and the worst part is that unlike say curseforge or ckan nexus has basically no competition.

not to defend Nexus but most the mods to make kids "diverse" in Skyrim and Fallout is because bethesda is lazy and made all the kids clones and these mods make them look like their parents. (In Skyrim's case, also adding children of the various races) so they are pretty decent mods.

I mea, I kinda get why ending children in Fallout or Skyrim is allowed, but it obviously makes no sense when you compare it to what types of mod they remove. It personally doesn't effect me, but then again, I never really tried modding anything other than Skyrim or Fallout. I am thankful to Nexus for existing and making modding available and easy for people like me who doesn't really know much about this topic. But things are clearly not as they should be. Maybe a change in leadership could solve things, but a competitor emerging would also be a good thing. Either in giving players and modders another option to collaborate and have fun, or just giving nexus the urgency to become more accepting.
