You've truly found your calling! This is so powerful and helpful. I've been burned out before at a job that I was initially so happy to get. It paid really well and looked great on paper but the environment was stifling. Nobody liked each other, the team was fractured, and the work was SO boring. I was there for only 3 months but it was the worst burnout I've ever experienced. The physical and emotional toll got real. I was fortunate to leave that job and thank goodness it was perfect timing for my current job. I love my work now! I'm so happy with my team and I'm the least stressed I've ever been. Thank goodness for the awful experience so I can recognize how good I have it now. ❤

Hi Mandy, I really loved and resonated with this video! I’m currently interviewing to get out of a toxic workplace, and it’s so important to make the right decision, and really trust my gut. Naturally, it’s intimidating because I don’t want to end up in another toxic environment. Rocking the boat is the only thing that’s kept me ME at my job. Most of the time, the people trying to make me look/feel bad don’t even know how to respond to me when I’m direct and straightforward with my communication. Or, they come up with excuses and get defensive. Plus, once you start to “rock the boat” and set boundaries/stand up for yourself, you can’t really stop. It gives you so much confidence! I signed up for your newsletter because I’ve been watching your videos for a few weeks! I think it’s a great business tactic because, from my perspective, you’re also building long term clients because we trust you now. And who knows when I’ll need career advice- as someone swimming in grey matter?? Hehe I think you’re great, thank you for sharing, I really appreciate your videos!!

finally quitting my trash family restaurant job today. i keep putting it off, but i'm just so tired of it & have been for nearly a year now. there is literally no benefit to me - it's more effort than the time i put in & the money i get out, & i'm sick of keeping myself in a toxic loop so people who barely care about me have an easier time running their business. energetically, it's always BEEN a no, if i'm being honest with myself. thanks, mandy! you a real one.

I had to re-listened to the body cues over and over. That is so true. I’d love to share my experience on this. I am a residential care youth worker and working in an extreme and high needs young people and 8 months ago, I was assaulted where a young person tried to choked me while I was driving in the middle of traffic around 5:30pm. The road was busy! We were on the side of the street for nearly 5 hours doing our best to help the young person regulate their emotion so that we can safely drive back to the house. I have this routine where my husband and I texts or calls each other to check on each other and to say good night. It was nearly around 8pm and I was getting really hungry and needed to use the toilet when I got a text from my husband saying “hey blossom 🌸 how you doing? I just had dinner. Love you 🥰”. I replied to my husband saying “hey Babe, I’m alright, yeah, all good. Big day and exhausted”. I didn’t tell him that I was out in the street hungry, thirsty and busting and nearly had a car crash because the young person sitting in the back seat tried to choke me. Even after got home the next day I did not tell my husband how extremely hard my day was. The situation was 10/10 hard but I told it to my husband 4/10. One reason I didn’t tell him is because I didn’t want him to worry about me and two, I didn’t want him to be upset. Fast forward, 2 months ago I was diagnosed with PTSD and now so many incidences are coming up to the surface. I am in the process of healing and I am grateful to have found you, Mandy. Your wisdom and guidance and voice is empowering and on point.

You're awesome!! Just found your channel the other day and have been binging your vids since! Really really resonate with the direct, clean transactions concept. Having people be on your mailing list that actually want to be there. This taps right into the 1000 true fans concept - You don't need mad numbers to make a living, just 1000 or so people that truly give a fuck that are willing to support you. It's better for business owners and better for consumers as it eliminates the mental clutter. I'm from a music background and it's so common to see artists that do crazy numbers on songs struggle to make a living, but if they focused instead on building and monetising smaller communities of people that really really resonate with them, they'd be able to stay afloat and also have more freedom with their art, in a lot of cases removing the need for the middle man (labels, management etc). I think we're very much still in the era of waking up to this - the internet and our freedom on it has made this pretty damn feasible which is really exciting.
@careercoachmandy
@careercoachmandy 8 күн бұрын
i love this message. i agree. as an artist it's so hard to see other people hitting these massive numbers, but everyone has to start somewhere, so it really is the 1000 true fans concept which is basically, how i've run my entire business. thank you so much for your thoughtful message. yes to the internet freedom that makes it feel possible, and it is!

'It will be good for my resume' - lol, dying! It's something Ive done too many times to count and whilst this attitude is perhaps important when you're young, or when you're sure what you want to do, but need some stuff in your portfolio. But! - and this is a big BUT, these things are often just extrinsic motivators and we need to learn when we've collected enough of examples and just stop trying to sell ourselves. Instead put our needs first. And stop compromising.

I made a life decision where I went against my own intuition because I thought it would be a fun, daring choice for me to make in life, and I thought that I wouldn’t regret it. Everyone is telling me that I made the right choice but I know deep down that I did something wrong. I could feel it in my gut, I felt pain ALL over my body, but I still chose it because I wanted to do something daring and new with my life. I wanted to do the thing that scared me because I believed it would help develop me as a person but deep down I knew I didn’t want it. But I can’t back out of it now. What do I do???
@careercoachmandy
@careercoachmandy 8 күн бұрын
i think you can always back out. if you know in your gut it was wrong, that is huge. trust that instinct. maybe spend the next few days thinking about what would be the most graceful way to backtrack? you can always change your mind. don't worry about what people will think or what they will say. all you need is 1-2 real supporters like friends or family who have your back. you can do it!

But honestly, your videos have been so inspiring to actually go out there and create something. I always felt so frustrated w/ how it seems like If you don't make super cringe video thumbnails with a stupid pose and a title like "YOU ARE BREATHING WRONG!!!! HERE'S HOW TO FIX IT" that no one will watch my content regardless of how good it is. I don't want to be disingenuous and it feels like that is the ONLY way people operate on youtube/tiktok. I want people to just engage with my work because it's good not because I like "tricked" them into clicking or gave them some stupid gift for giving me their email. I feel so aligned with your message of like "man everyone says do this really fake ass thing and you'll grow but fuck that, that's not me"

i think the thing is, a lot of your videos and presumably newsletters deal with people who are self-employed and running their own small business, and a resume is specific to people seeking a job. so there was also a sort of disconnect. i'm an ebay reseller. i have no need for a resume, i'm not going to be applying to jobs. i've never written a resume in my life. i've always run a series of small businesses. but i still find your content interesting. so perhaps it's not that you should not have any reward at all for signing up to your newsletters, perhaps you should have a reward that appeals to all of your audience, not just some of them.
@rinkuhero
@rinkuhero 12 күн бұрын
(there's a similar, though lesser, issue with a lot of your video titles -- like calling your audience 'girl' or 'queen' and so on. that just makes your male audience less likely to click on those videos. i know it sounds stupid, but women don't mind occasionally being called guys or dudes, whereas most men hate being called girls or queens. so it feels sometimes like you are addressing only part of your audience with your titles and newsletter rewards and so on, instead of all of them. of course, you might really only want a 90% female audience or something, in which case this wouldn't matter. and maybe it doesn't even matter for actually clicking and watching the videos, but it might matter for sharing them, like i might click them, watch and enjoy them, but would i send them to a male friend or post them on my facebook with such titles? the message and content of what you say in the videos isn't gender-specific, but often the titles are, just like your newsletter isn't specific to people in the workforce, but the reward to join them was)
@careercoachmandy
@careercoachmandy 8 күн бұрын
yeah it's super interesting bc my audience kept shifting, i think in part bc i kept changing my focus. so it was, as you have named, a bit of playing catch up with myself and figuring out the right fit and tone for each stage.
@rinkuhero
@rinkuhero 8 күн бұрын
@ yeah that's understandable, i do think you seem to have got a lot of subscribers relatively quickly, and adapting to that takes time. your videos are interesting and motivational and can help a large variety of people, and having too narrow an audience in mind can possibly slow that growth. like even outside of career counseling, there are people who could benefit from a lot of these videos (like you often talk about how to do creative work, which can be a goal even for the retired who no longer have to work for a living, but want to pursue creative goals)
