Many people in my mom's family are into energy healing. I dabbled in it for a while too. After going on my mission, I concluded that we need to be very careful. The devil can use the natural laws in an evil way. With that said, I've always loved Alma 46:40. "40 And there were some who died with fevers, which at some seasons of the year were very frequent in the land-but not so much so with fevers, because of the excellent qualities of the many plants and roots which God had prepared to remove the cause of diseases, to which men were subject by the nature of the climate." If we follow the Word of Wisdom, we can certainly use what God has given us in wisdom. We always need to be sure of the source. Thank you Jared for bringing up this subject.

Wait a second I’m reading all these comments and people are saying that energy healers say that we don’t need the priesthood we can heal everything ourselves. I’m an energy healer and I’ve never said anything like that. We have to be careful when we put a bunch of people all in the same category. In the same breath, doctors do that as well. They don’t ever suggest to somebody that comes in for a problem to get a blessing. They just diagnose it and sometimes they’re right and sometimes they’re wrong and they try to fix it with drugs and sometimes they fix it and sometimes they don’t and then they charge you for it. I think that if we’re going to bag on healers, don’t forget to put all your doctors in the same bag!

My little sister is into all of that and has left the church. She spends a lot of time with my ex sister in law and her daughters that have been doing it for years and they are all out of the church now. It’s a huge problem in Utah but has spread everywhere. My mother in law took my son when he was 18 to see a lady for “therapy” without telling me several years ago before his mission. When my son told me I was pretty upset!

With any healing process/object/concoction there are 3 important things to consider: -Where does the power come from? -How does one receive the authority to use that power? -Who receives the glory for the outcome? I *really* appreciate you doing this one. I've lost several friends to that garbage. It's very appealing to the natural man. "I can heal/fix everything myself; I don't need a priesthood holder." Or, like my son's current companion, "It's a parallel to the priesthood." 😑 There is a huge draw to feeling special and having a special knowledge or ability, feeling like *you* are powerful. It's an incredibly clever counterfeit. It's setting oneself up as a light, rather that sharing and reflecting the light of Christ. Also, we are promised discernment in the temple of we hold fast to our covenants.

Amen to discernment through the Temple. One time, after not having been to the temple for years (no temple available where I was from) I managed to travel to the temple and attended two days in a row. The people I was staying with wanted to take me around, so right after I came out of the Temple, they took me to a large restaurant/museum that I'll leave unnamed, and there was such darkness there, such lack of the spirit, that I could only discern because of the light and the spirit that I had just experienced just a short time before in the House of the Lord. The thought came to me: "This is also a temple, but not to the right God."

My sister began by becoming convinced by a woman in her ward that told her she could speak to my mother, who had passed away. Next thing I knew she was speaking to the dearly departed, too. This sister was always searching for the “goose pimple doctrines” Instead of sticking to, and digging deeper into, the basic core doctrines of the church for the purpose of learning to become what Our Heavenly Father wants us to be. My sister was into all the new age stuff. Reiki healing, transcendental meditation, etc…. She believed she could still stay true to the church and dabble. It didn’t work. She not only left the Church she is now actively fighting against it. It’s very difficult for me to have a relationship with her. She proselytizes her views more faithfully than any zealot.

Mormon Doctrine actually talks about mediums. I've had supposed mediums tell me that evil is all around me feeding off me. That I can't be trusted because I have darkness all around me. And this is someone that "channels" spirits or allows herself to become temporarily possessed in the name of her medium work.

10+ years ago I did a deep dive into new age theology from a channel here on KZbin that I recently rediscovered. I came away from the video series with this exact thought, “I did not know you could be right in so many wrong ways.” There are so many things that people who are hyper spiritual but not religious get much closer to the truths of the gospel than most outside the church, but they take those principles in all kinds of wrong directions. It’s a testament of how the Devil uses truths to deceive… uses teachings of men mixed with gospel.

I really appreciate the comment about new scripture coming forth. Currently there is a guy promoting himself as someone bringing forth some ancient Native American scripture. The thought was interesting and I wanted to learn more. He has been talking to a lot of LDS people who have youtube channels. He has basically been saying 'You can trust me. I am a church member. I have been through the temple. I have the priesthood.' But now, since he isn't getting something he wants from the church, he is threatening to sue the church for some alleged wrong done or said by someone. That threat tells me everything! This guy is incredibly manipulative. He speaks of peace and brotherhood, and love for the church in one minute, then within the next few minutes, condemns the church at large, threatening lawsuits, constantly saying he has been wronged.

Jared, thank you so much for talking about this! It is becoming so much more prevalent. Energy healing is very deceptive and should be avoided like the plague. We need to pray for greater discernment through the Holy Ghost so as not to be deceived by false spirits. It cannot be overstated how important it is to stay with the true Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ, the standard works of the holy scriptures that we have, the sacred ordinances, and increase our purposeful attendance in the Temple. We need to keep our covenants with the Lord and to draw ever closer to Him, and avoid anything that would distract us and lead away into strange paths. We are very literally seeing Lehi's dream in our day. Let's stay on the path that leads us back to our Savior and our Heavenly Father. Thank you, again, for sharing these things, because it is so incredibly important! ❤

Energy healing seems to be making a resurgence online. It has always given me really uncomfortable vibes. If there was something to it, we would’ve heard about it over the pulpit at General conference. I think energy healers bring a lot of attention to themselves when we should be only using the priesthood spiritually to heal people. And even though they constantly say it’s not about them, the healer’s actions make it all about them. I’ve known some narcissistic people very well, and I get the same feeling from them as I get from listening to “healers”.

My question is why are people given the gift of seeing energy then? Because there are a good number I know that can see energy. Gifts are for our use. I have a good friend who does massage and she has stuck to prayer and never giving direct direction to people but following the Spirit and informing people what she sees and directing them to pray and let go of hate or trauma they are holding onto with the help of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and preisthood blessings. Because she can see the energy inside of them and it is causing them pain. But I like that she always speaks about the great healer our Savior.

The "fluid" may be the ether (or "aether") that permeates space as theorized by Nikola Tesla; the nearest analog of which is a superfluid. This is a vast oversimplification, and it has little bearing on our salvation, but everything down to sub-atomic "particles" can me modeled by localized vortices in an ether. An ether model can also model how light could gather around the angel Moroni before he ascended through a heavenly conduit-light being a geometric perturbation in the ether. Electricity is modeled as another perturbation in the ether-which helps explain why voltage and current behave as a fluid's pressure and volume, respectively, in a pipe. It also reconciles how the sun can "borrow its light from Kolob through the medium of Kae-e-vanrash, which is the grand Key, or, in other words, the governing power". Is Kae-e-vanrash the ether? I don't know. But these ideas remind us that, in spite of all the work of physicists and astronomers, we still don't understand the majestic ways of God nor the means by which He operates. Satan usually mingles his lies with truth (i.e., scripture); so called "energy healing" is such a philosophy.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true, not because of Joseph Smith or Brigham Young, but because it is the Lord's Church, with Jesus Christ at its head. Prophets, including Joseph Smith and Brigham Young, are human and subject to frailty, but their imperfections do not diminish the truthfulness of the Church or the gospel they were called to restore. Some people mistakenly believe that pointing out Joseph Smith's or Brigham Young's flaws undermines the Church's validity. This is simply not the case. Joseph Smith was a prophet, but he is not the Church itself. The Church was restored through him, but its foundation is Jesus Christ. I firmly believe that Joseph Smith and Brigham Young were prophets of God and have received many personal witnesses of this truth. Still, the focus should remain on Christ and His gospel, not on the imperfections of His servants. The truthfulness of the Church stands independent of the shortcomings of its leaders, past or present.

I disagree. That seems like a slippery slope. We need to sustain all the faithful servants of God. That does not mean that we worship them or think they were perfect. But Joseph and Brigham both held the keys to the doctrines and ordinances that are necessary for our exaltation. If they did not pass those on as we believe, then that would be a problem.

My sister was a firm believer in energy healing and when they moved away from Utah, convinced her naive new Bishop that she needed this type of "healing" and got his seal of approval. So because of openly talking to him about it, she felt completely justified in continuing. She always talked that her healers were getting out all the "gunk" out of her. ?? I got crossways with her when I commented that they make a lot of money keeping her sick . They charged exhorbitant amounts of money for this practice all in the name of "truth and light". To me it smacks of priestcraft. Sadly, my sister passed away even while she was in the midst of this practice at at the age of 68 so instead of it prolonging her life, I feel it was a huge deception in her life.

I've felt like the major danger with energy healing is putting all your trust in something that is from a man or woman. I like that you call it true principles inverted, because there is so much good in different types of education, but there is such importance of keeping our focus on Christ and His gospel. I think turning to Him has kept me continually on the right path as I have questioned yoga (I am an instructor) and other ways that I spend my time. Ultimately if the church has not had any official stance on something, and I have received my answer, I will continue on in what I feel He is leading me to do, and just keep reading scriptures, going to the temple etc. Also humility for me is being willing to be wrong and corrected at any moment. I try to keep that attitude.

I will be brave and say what is in my heart because I cannot deny. I have done work encouraged and offered from Allie. I have done all the free offerings. I have paid for a few. When I was faced with what has yet been the toughest trial in life I found myself going to the temple about 3 times a week, doing hours and hours of genealogy a day, praying with the most fervent prayers I ever had… and yet I was stuck. I reached out to Allie and asked her for suggestions based on what I was ‘feeling’ and how I felt stuck. Instead of just writing a list of classes she gifted me the ones she felt might help, classes normally paid for. I found that to be very heartfelt and generous. I completely agree with most people’s hesitant nature regarding this topic as we have seen many negative examples of those who fell off the path. I can attest that I have done energy healing on myself and have grown closer to God while doing so. It was not the only thing I have done to better myself, or find healing, but it is a part. I do not believe you can blanket statement this subject, as all your quotes and talks refer to the truth… energy is real, healing is real… yet YES, Satan will have his mimic, so we ABSOLUTELY must keep the spirit as our companion and guide before stepping any direction. I attended the trial of Chad Daybell in person and state boldly he was deceived… but I too stand and state boldly that I am proof energy healing does not lead all to drive God and all His truths away - my favorite saying from the temple is “within the bounds the Lord has set”! I find myself today more mentally and spiritually healthy than ever before and I attribute that in part to energy healing.

Learn about the Gift of Aaron mentioned in the Doctrine and Covenants regarding dowsing for water. Oliver Cowdery had this gift. It says in D & C that it is from God. Increasingly, members of the church are discovering these gifts from God within themselves. There is a spiritual gift of healing. Many energy healing modalities are inspired and help the body to heal itself, which it is designed to do. Acupuncture, chiropractic, reflexology, kinesiology-these are examples of healing modalities that work for many people. One does not need always to use the power of the priesthood to help someone heal. I am so sorry you are painting all these things with such a broad brush. Please be more specific about what exactly you are describing as energy healing. I agree that we need to be careful and use sincere prayer.

It "works" in a way that creates dependence on Satan's power. I have experienced and learned enough to know that it is real power, but that doesn't make it okay. It is very deceptive and requires some emotional distance to see it for what it is. When I was a supporter of energy healing, I wouldn't have listened to anybody telling me it was problematic. I will say this: if the Spirit ever cautions you about it, please listen. You will be blessed. If anybody is interested in hearing perspectives of people who have accessed this power and then rejected it, there are some good interviews on new age, etc. on Michael Knowles' channel, as well as some personal accounts shared on youtube by Messianic Jews.

I have learned for myself that it is NOT from the Lord! I was first approached by someone in Washington State about different concepts. I was very naive and clueless at that time, and vulnerable. As I looked more into it, I was taught by the Holy Ghost that while it does have elements of truth, there is just enough lies and deception (in a very intriguing way) that it can, and does, lead people away from the Lord. I have seen it happen, and it is still happening among some people that I have known. The phrase, "the philosophies of men mingled with scripture" is an excellent way to describe energy healing. Several years later, I moved out of State and was going through some difficult health issues and was living in a very difficult area. I became very vulnerable again. I allowed myself to get talked into trying the emotion code, which was becoming more popular among members where I was living at the time. I did a couple of sessions with two separate people who were practicing it. A lot of it just didn't make sense, and after the second session, I was soon after spiritually attacked. It was crazy!! NEVER AGAIN!! It is what I call counterfeit priesthood. These things, along with other practices such as reiki is authored by the adversary. It is practiced by both men and women. I cannot overemphasize how crucial it is to stay completely away from it. Avoid it like the plague!!

It goes by a lot of names. It's not just in Utah. I would describe it as new age spirituality. It includes a lot of "modalities". It includes "energy healing" by that name, as well as things like reiki, kinesthesiology, things to do with auras, using crystals, using "angel cards", speaking to spirits of the dead (or so they think), mediumship, the spiritualism related to yoga, astral projection, or really, anything that achieves what could only righteously be done through prayer and the priesthood.

Essential oils, same thing. There is a difference between, "I like the smell, it helps me" and "It cures cancer and anything else, bring your kids to me if they have a cough"

I use.essential.oils, and I do believe they were put here for the benefit of man. But I can only learn about and use them for myself and those over which I have stewardship, i.e. my children, and even then, with extreme prayers and personal revelation. I don't even have the right to tell someone else to use baby aspirin. Why would anyone listen to me other than to hear my own experience. I might be fine with penicillin. You might be allergic. How would I know? My point being that it's ok for me and my personal research and use. If you want to use it, learn about it for yourself.

Essential oils have there own benefits. I do use lavender on sunburns and oregano for acne. So it matters how you use things….

Nearly all medicines are developed from plants.

Actually word of wisdom states herbs are to be used for healing which is what the oils are for. Natural medicinal plants are God given and we should use them instead of drugs. It states we can even use tobacco to heal animals etc. wise men have Jesus medicinal plant based products and Jesus was anointed with oils when he was buried. Oils have been used for thousands of years for healing and for consumption and health.

There are bad companies that don't have pure essential oils, but really all they are is a super concentrated form of the plants God made. You're throwing the baby out with the bath water. I have actually seen cancer healed and have had several conditions on my own self healed from essential oils.

I feel that Chief Medigah is being deceived, especially with his vision of a "sandy haired angle". We must prioritize following the prophet rather than exciting alternatives. God works through His prophets!
