A person in a position of power should be able to speak with more knowledge and clarification. He sounds incredibly uneducated and unable to control his temper.

The parent is concerned about words hurting people and should instead be concerned about actions that hurt people. No student should be fearful of classmates

That parent is the one who is ignorant! That mayor is right, it don't matter who you are if you are commiting a crime or not following the rules there are consequences.

The mayor is guilty of the high crime of noticing things.

I get he was frustrated, but I would have NEVER said anything like what he said. And all of you who are agreeing with the mayor need to volunteer at an organization for special needs kids and adults. They DO have limitations of what they can do, and it sounds as if we're expecting them to learn at the same pace as all normal adults. Hmmm, could THIS be what may be causing some of them to melt down, especially those who show no improvement in pacing skills? What happens if they need to slow down as they get older, because that "check engine" light is very likely going to turn on between the ages of 35 and 40, not 50 to 60 like most able-bodied people. Maybe it would help if some people write down these thoughts and then asked someone to proofread for biased and politically incorrect language. I agree that people pretending to be special needs when they aren't is out of line (especially if they're scamming for government pay), but for those parents who have to face unfortunate realities and children who might have to take different path, painting kids with special needs with a rather broad brush is not nearly as good an idea as some people seem to believe.
