I think this is actually an FD1, at least looking at the bumpers, and this was Spoon's circuit prototype BEFORE the FD2r was released. Still a beautiful car.

its true, its a non type r version with base bodykit, i think the car used full modulo addon from lips, side skirt, rear lips

You can also verify this from the older intake manifold in the engine bay. It doesnt feature the RRC manifold of the FD2.

It looks like something is bottoming out in the suspension. Rear outside under squat. It looks like it may be a travel issue. May have to get some harder springs for the rear, I think you can only reduce the bump on the dampers so much before causing more problems and the rebound setting on the dampers may also need to go up some. Some small cameras placed at all 4 corners to monitor the suspension/wheels would be a good idea. It wouldn't surprise me if the rear tires were actually making contact with something, causing the car to bounce and wobble upon contact.

It's funny I have an fd2 sport nothing special but a nice enough car. It's my fourth civic I owned fourth to sixth get civics 89, 92 and 99. The eg6 si was a sweet car and my ek9 R was awesome and always felt like they all were nice quick little tarmac shredders. Never felt lik that about the fd2 it feels like a family car (why I bought it, have a kid now) and just looks weird seeing one race tuned. Truth is I just want my type r back though.
@hypasheep6 жыл бұрын
I have an imported JDM fd2 (non type r) in a special black amethyst pearl paint (like midnight purple) with H&R lowering springs and it is definitely still fun to drive around the hills and bends. It's a shame that it is literally the last dohc vtec Civic model. The fb civic was sohc R20...and now its turbo, so the fd2 is still very precious to me ;D

They are both great cars and incredibly similar in performance, but Dc5 takes the cake cuz it just looks so much better.
@JujutsuHeiho9 жыл бұрын
I think the flapping has to do with the damper stroke. If it was due to suspension being soft it would run over the bump smoother actually. So stiff suspension but no way of taking the energy away from the springs. That is the job of the dampers. So working on the damper settings will eliminate that. It's clear the Civic R will surpass the Integra R once it gets a well balanced tune.
@quachimba8 жыл бұрын
+Jujutsuheiho i think the Integra has too small an engine because you are right the civic is still competing so well when it isn't even fully tuned
@jihadjoe7 жыл бұрын
Both cars use the same engine though.
@chrismartin15307 жыл бұрын
Kinda the same engine. Not identical. The Integra has PRC Inlet whereas the FD2 has an RRC (better) manifold from standard. Sure the FD2 has higher compression due to different cams?

FD2 front dampers need more rebound clicks to stop the hopping
@TassieLorenzo9 жыл бұрын
What's the cause of the flapping? Resonance mode in the suspension? Lack of stroke? Surprised they didn't use same damper/spring settings as DC5. Sounds like Tsuchiya says it's an issue with roll speed and stroke. I.e., something wrong with the natural frequency of the roll mode of the front end of the car, or lack of stroke causing it to bottom out and bounce violently somehow?
@lengerer5 жыл бұрын
The driver said the damper stroke is not correct, he can’t use the kerbs
@ridejer57073 жыл бұрын
@TassieLorenzo thats what im thinking.might be easier for them to use the same settings of damper/spring from spoon dc5 and tune it from there.since both chassis share the same suspension type.?
@Vintage_862 жыл бұрын
@@ridejer5707 No. The DC5 has McPearson, the FD2 has double wishbone. The FD2’s suspension geometry is better.

I think they were just filling in gaps in discussion time with that torque steer stuff. It's a stock K20A with a wicked clutch pack LSD. There wouldn't be any torque steer unless an axle was broken or that diff wasn't locking.
@EGK205 жыл бұрын
All type R transmissions from B16B to K20A use helical type LSD. Helical mean gear type. so there no clutch pack what so ever. and if not mistaken K20A from FD use torque sensitive Helical LSD

@Thechildishmandingo8 жыл бұрын
jason hang Mugen is comparable to Nismo or AMG. It's Honda's in house tuning company, I believe it was started by the son or grandson of Honda's founder. Spoon is a separate tuning/racing company like HKS or Mine's except they only focus on Hondas.
@windingspirit54306 жыл бұрын
Dad. No mugen is not Honda's in house tuning company. Currently the in house tuning companies for Honda is Modulo and Honda Factory Performance as well as Honda Racing Corporation for bikes. Mugen is a tuning company with very close relations with Honda. You are right that the CEO is Honda's son. Mugen's relations with Honda is so close people think they are the in house tuning group but Honda does not own Mugen. Infact the mugen ceo has shares in Honda Co so you can say Honda is Mugens oem supplier lol.

My DC5 does the "flapping" thing seen in the FD2 here, does anyone have tuning recommendations for stopping this effect? It has only happened when accelerating out of low-speed corners and it scares me to death every time it happens. I have coil-overs that are set to about 10% above the softest setting and a stock rear sway bar, ride height is only 1.5" lower than stock both front and rear. The car has 215/40-18 tires and is set to 0 camber on all corners.

That’s really interesting, did you find the issue? Does it have bump stops to hit or get coil bind?
@exotik41232 жыл бұрын
The coil overs may be too stiff even if they are softest setting
@kibawhitefang7176 Жыл бұрын
For one, the quality of the road is usually the main reason, such as uneven surface. But I would definitely check the control arms, and you probably need to balance the tires too. Take it to a tire shop and ask them if they can balance your tires, they usually do it for free. If you have never changed your control arms, the bushings must be worn out. Time to replace those, and if you are going for that direction, you could update the axles while you are at it. 18” wheels are too big, makes your engine work harder because of its mass which will require more energy to move it as it is to stop it.
