I wonder if he’ll recognize him when they finally meet though.

A lot of people are hating on Dazai here for interrupting/ignoring Akutagawa and I respect your takes on that but here’s how I feel about it. Honestly, I think if it had only been between Aku and Dazai in private where no one can hear/watch them, Dazai would actually talk/listen to him. But you know- they’re in public and Chuuya/Atsushi is there (someone who’s close to Dazai) and I think he’s the type of person who doesn’t want to show sentimentality in front of everyone (we saw him being vulnerable during Oda’s death, and there’s also the scene when he and Kyouka talked alone before the Moby Dick crashed, Dazai showing his serious side when negotiating alone with Kouyou too) I won’t deny he is mean towards Akutagawa but if you read the manga, Dazai does acknowledged Aku (there’s a scene where they meet alone and talked) And let’s be honest here, do you want to be put on the spot by being asked to acknowledge someone in public and surrounded by people you’re close with- do you want to be in that position? 😂 cause I sure as hell don’t skskskksksksk, but in private, I don’t mind being honest.

I wrote the comment a year ago so the way I interpreted the chapter might’ve been different then but if you want to give the chapter a read it’s chapter 84! I’ve been trying to find an omake chapter (which was drew by Harukawa Sango) where Dazai’s been secretly looking out for Akutagawa (not in a literal sense but the chapter showed that side of him) BUT I COULD NOT FIND IT. But yeah I think the chapter I referred to in the comment was chapter 84

Okay but i truly think the reason dazai avoids all these topics about acknowledgement is because he main goal is suicide and he already has his mindset that nothing is going to stop him from that desire.
