Fan Xian and Wan’er have a sweet, puppy love relationship but his relationship with Duoduo is more mature. They’re definitely on the path to building a trusting, loyal, always-got-your-back kind of best friend relationship if they continue like this. If they became a couple, they’d be so powerful, both intellectually and physically, they can definitely take care of themselves against any opponents. I loved the time they spent together at Duoduo’s house, very sweet - and they understand each other so well because they’re similar in many ways. They just seemed so comfortable around each other, like they’re old friends. It was very pleasant to watch. I hope they have many more days like this to just relax and enjoy a good friend’s company. I really liked her garden house too, so peaceful out there; like my mom’s backyard, full of veggies, herbs, and fruit trees. 💕

I agree with the comments about preferring Doudou and Fan Xian as friends. I like that he is very clear about his feelings for Wan'er. Wan'er is someone who's his to protect, who brings him happiness just by being with him. I'd like to think that with Doudou, Fan Xian has met someone who really gets his core being, without even knowing the specifics. At this point, I'm convinced that Qinian is a loyal friend who would put Fan Xian over the Overwatch Council. But there will always be a lord-subject undertone. Doudou is different. She's a royal from another country, thus can be a true equal to Fan Xian. Both don't mince their words with each other and challenge each others thinking. I think Fan Xian really respects and admires her and the way she is determined to live her life like she wants. He might never be able to share specific secrets with her because at the end of the day, each of them has their own loyalties. But what he needs, wishes for and his outlook on life, that's something where Doudou seems to be able to clear his mind and give him comfort at the same time. There are so few positive depictions of platonic but close friendship between men and weman without forcing the romantic angle sooner or later. Hopefully the series keeps this one friend for Fan Xian until the end. At the same time, I hope that these two actors will work together in another project again, in which they are acting as romantic interests to each other. I mean, just check out the way he looks at her at 30:08 !

I feel like its way better for Duo Duo and Fan Xian to have friendship. Idk their bickering really just gives the vibe of a best friend you need in life. I am a Wan Er x FX supporter :DD a lot of people find wan Er boring but I think since Wan Er is not some chess piece in the martial arts world FX can feel very at ease with her and talk to her about anything. I feel like Duo Duo and FX have the same ambitious goals so they would work together like brothers in arms.

Agree. Wan er is like a counterpoint to the darkness in the drama, in the people and world they inhabit. She's the light and rock that can prevent Fan Xi'an into becoming the worst aspects of both Ping Ping and the Emperor. She shows that even in a world full of ruthless schemers and callous killers, simple innocence and goodness can exist without apology, content to just be itself, aware of but unaffected by the darkness around her. Fan Xi'an needs her. The Saintess is a cute and goofy character, self aware, but with enough darkness that she cannot save Fan Xi'an. It's best she's his friend.

The saintess is real competition for Waner even if for now she only looks his bbf. This first season Waner role was quite minor and not very interesting. Knowing that she is sick and don't know kungfu and has little power in her house and in the palace, I don't see any big character development for her in the season two. Maybe she won't survive season 2. But I don't want go check in the novel. I'll stick with the Drama.

I think he do share his troubles and inner thoughts but what we see was very limited plus before going to Beiqi most of his problem is related to her family, like logically how will he share his deep thought abt Wuzhu killing Lin Gong?. He is sure true to his feeling to Wan'er and he said it he won't lie to her anymore but we didn't even see a scene with Fan Xian with Wan'er longer than Fan Xian with Haitang to see his improvement. But he do need friends to talk his heart out because of how many secret he just found out. Haitang is the perfect .
