[Eng Sub] McLaren F1 Doors in a Toyota! How creative is the Toyota Sera?

Toyota Sera is an interesting car that was put into production in 1990. Most of the roof, from the windshield to the trunk lid, is made of glass. Coupled with the innovative butterfly door design, the tiny body of the Sera looks like a spaceship or a deep-sea sightseeing submarine. The design work of Toyota Sera began as early as the mid-1980s, when Toyota launched a plan called Young Project, hoping to launch a range of new cars suitable for young people's tastes. Sera’s design concept car AXV-II was exhibited at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1987. In fact, it is not a concept car with only an outer shell, but a car that can be driven, with an actual engine and gearbox. It shows that Toyota seems to be eager to actually build this kind of bold car. When the Sera (number EXY10) was launched in 1990, the market responded enthusiastically. Toyota originally estimated that they could sell 3,000 units a year, and finally sold 9,000 units in the first 12 months. It is a pity that Japan's subsequent economic problems, for Toyota Sera and other toys with strong characters, people's enthusiasm instantly collapsed, until the production was discontinued in 1995, Sera sold less than 16,000 units in total. Toyota Sera has not been officially imported to Hong Kong, and most of them were parallel imports back then as early Japanese JDM, Toyota JDM. In this episode, Lung Sir and Edmond Lau tested the Sera under the hot weather warning. Even with the strong air conditioner, the cabin temperature is like a greenhouse. I remember the Nx coupes well when they were new here in Australia. They were not top sellers due to being not cheap and being 2+2 small coupes, but they were common sights on our roads back in the early 90s. We were offered a base spec and a top spec ie the NX-R with ABS and SR20DE engine and it was a fast car in its day especially in that price range. Very very few survivors these days and very hard to even find one for sale, not helped by the fact that they fell into the wrong hands since 10-15 years ago when they were only worth every little money and owners drove them into the ground.

😂1980 Mitsubishi Sapporo. 細路嗰陣就已經覺得好型，尤其係後面塊玻璃窗。當時屋企住廣播道，成日見陸小鳳/劉松仁揸住飛出飛入。仲有件事想請教龍Sir, 唔知點解當時啲三菱，無論係Sigma or Sapporo, 當然佢哋都係用同一副机器，引擎轉數增加時總有种we we 声，非常有趣，过多幾年後的Lancer 就冇咗嗰种声，希望龍Sir 能找到答案，非常感謝，绝对支持Rev .

Can’t believe Lung Sir actually had a B13 Sunny, just like my dad did back in the day (his was a silver EX Saloon?! Auto with a button for Over Drive) I was told he bought his new just after I was born & I spent my 1st 7 years growing up in it! I even remember going to a Nissan car show in Sha Tin New Town Plaza & sat in the back of the show car when I was a couple years old then! The last memory I had with it was after Diana’s death & we bought Elton John’s Candle in the wind CD Single from HMV & stick it straight into the stereo & listened to it on our way home. I reckon next time when I’m back in HK I’ll get my dad to take you guys out for a little YumCha just to talk about the B13 Sunny, even my mom can’t forget how classy & elegant it looked for what it was, and how highly refined inside, she said the engine was silky smooth & very quiet.
