The drama tells the life of Xiao Yanyan, who was the most powerful woman of the Liao dynasty. Xiao Yanyan and Han Derang were childhood sweethearts, but were separated when she was sent into the palace to become the consort of Yelü Xian. Though Xiao Yanyan and Yelu Xian's marriage was not one built on romance, Xiao Yanyan fulfills her job as a dedicated empress, and gains her husband's respect after the policies she instated proved her capability. It is sad to hear that Yan Yan died of illness due to stress and worries and thus, her time with Han Derang, without having to deal with the affairs of Liao state, was shortened. But, I am somewhat touched thinking that Han Derang died so soon, only 15 months later, because of illness imbued by the death of his true loved one, Yan Yan. A touching love story indeed. I love the dorama and the cast!! No regrets!! I hope to see another historical drama with TangYan and ShawnDou despite the "bad" reviews of this one.

I don’t blame yang yang in any of her decisions, she is really a strong women. She has sacrificed so much things for the country, it is really sad to know that all the pressure and stress make her fall sick. After being married to the king, she never really enjoyed her life, it was more like a responsibility she had to do. I’m at least happy she had some time left to spend with Derang without worrying about other affairs.

@Baby Giggling you really need to watch the drama with eyes wide open. Her sisters were selfish and unreasonable. Empress dowager was the only selfless one, giving up all her youth in sacrifice for the prosperity and peace of the country. She never coveted power for herself. If she had a choice, she would have given it up to live a normal life with Derang. She deserves to be remembered for the long lasting peace she helped bring about. I'm glad she was able to spend the last half of her life with her true love.

Wuguli killed herself, yanyan didn't put the poison in the flagon or force it down her throat, she did both. Hunian overindulged talanabo and wuguli and couldn't control yansage too. It isn't yanyan's fault. It is the greedy people whose evil deeds caught up with them

This is a very powerful and beautiful story. I am glad it ended well. Great performance by the cast and crew. I learned a lot, love is powerful when you have the right person. Power struggle and the throne is very toxic and we can see it even in the way politics is played currently. Power corrupts, it can be dangerous when not properly guided. Intrigues and betrayal everywhere. I admire the Queen and her lover who stood by her despite all the chaos and challenges. He just loved her and understood her. I can't believe I have fallen in love with Chinese history. Thanks director and script writer, great story here. I enjoyed it totally and learned from it.

Well as we end the journey, I see a lot of comments I’ve enjoyed reading, as well as the overall production. This is my mini summary of the last episode and my insights on the three sisters: In maturity comes the ability to reflect, repent and being accountable for your personal mistakes. The page turner in these events in my humble opinion comes during the dialogue between Derang and Eldest sister. She (eldest sister) wasn’t as mature as we all thought, but she was self sacrificing because she wanted to do the right thing and please her father. However, she compromised herself a lot and either didn’t know what or how to get what she wanted in life. When she finally got there, she picked the wrong man to accompany her (who I call little general). Little general represented the free spirit and lost youth that eldest sister wanted to recapture. However, because of his lack of education in royal etiquette and unrestrained personality, I believe their relationship may have endured on the grasslands and not in court. The decision eldest made to ask and then take him with her was selfish (although she lived a selfless life for her family) and a bad mistake. But who hasn’t made mistakes when in love? However hers cost him his life...no blame or guilt, just stating observations.... Middle sister had middle child syndrome, was immature and selfish...let’s leave it there, as she never matured and acted like she was obsessed in her love relationship. Because of her obsession she lost both her husband and son. Again, no blame because we are all responsible for our own actions. Her husband was raised to believe he was entitled to the throne and grew up ambitious for it, as did the crown prince. Yanyan on the other hand was always labeled as strong willed and being the youngest, immature. She turned out to be more self aware, insightful, kind and the most mature of the three. Her unique insight in political affairs came from her intelligence (current data indicates that tomboys are usually smarter) and kind heart for others. The love relationship with Derang was also one that covered a disunited country. Meaning her ability to see and love him beyond his status and ethnicity was in the forefront of many of her elders. Her ability to do so is what made her able to carry out the vision of the emperor and the previous generation. Perhaps this is what the emperor heard and why he had to have her...she matched the vision and plans for the nation. This is exampled when he questioned why she loved someone she wasn’t matched for? Most girls at her young age were worried about clothes, makeup, social activities, etc. Her perspective was very mature and unique at such a young age. As Derang said, when Eldest sister questioned why he didn’t fall in love with her? They were closer in age and grew up together.... His answer makes it lightening bolt clear...Yanyan knew what she wanted and how to get it. She was able to love a person, not position, status or power. She really had a ‘pure heart’ that allowed her to see and love without a political agenda. She cared for people... In the end she won his heart & a nation for a lifetime! She was also able to capture an emperor and effect the nation for a several generations! Note: I did not say the emperor loved her, that I am unclear on based on how he treated her, especially at the end. I believe he had an affection and respect for her. I noticed how he said he was in love with the later concubine and how he was willing to release her if she loved someone else...were these lessons learned from his mistakes with Derang and Yanyan? Or, loving her and not wanting to abuse her or their budding romance? Your thoughts....

@Judith Greene I think the emperor loved the queen initially that's why he placed a decree of marriage in the acknowledgement that she was engaged to Derang. I am amazed by this summary , its so great so first of all i guess the type of hunnian that she just wanted to feel free of respondabilities and feel more herself (i can relate since i am the elder sister in my family , since younger age we forget ourself and we start worrying about our siblings ) and the feeling to being small again only parents can give thta , and we can see that when they call her little hunnia ( wusage and little general) gove her the feeling that shes want excatly , someone thta care about her only her , not her position or role in court , and wuguli was a beautiful sister who love to chat , and only what she wat a happy marriage which she taught she had but unfortunnality with someone who had a big ambition since the beginnning ( who was hitting on hunnnian in first place ) And for Yan yan i guess you said all right , it just we can see that no women can be like her sacrificing herself for a country who everyone want to kill her all the time and harm her family 24/7 , its hard to keep the motivation

I can’t say everyone can do what they did, because today we live in a time when people are very selfish. But if viewers got anything out of watching the production while on lockdown during COVID and some self reflection, perhaps we can step towards being a little less selfish.

As the emperor got sicker and the responsibilities of running the country and court demanded more of her time, they grew apart. Another is, Derang was able to work and spend more with her more as the demand increased. The emperor had more time with the concubine and had the care he needed. In the end, I guess everyone was happy, except poor Derang’s wife. She got caught in the middle of a mess, oops! I mean love triangle and I think she suffered the most in someways. At least both Derang and Yanyan not only loved each other...they knew they were loved by each other. His wife suffered jealousy and I think it affected her mentally a bit, poor thing. When she sent the maid to bring him home, her saying her heart hurt was painful to hear. But...she signed up for a man she knew didn’t love her. If the poison didn’t kill her, I’m sure a broken heart would have eventually.

I think this ending was very suitable and very lenient. Because in reality, the sisters were known to have a bad relationship. Yanyan actually killed her two sisters. So I didn’t expect to see Hunian alive. Even though the writer changed how these sisters were going to be like in the show, their fate was still the same. They were doomed to be separated. Whether that is really true or not, no one knows. And this show is fictional, so some of the things depicted in here are not real

I loved this drama and it taught me a lot. I think power is not the problem as much as people's heart. Hunian and Wuguli were changed by the men they married and became traitors of their sister and of the country. They would have rather she and her fist son died rather than their husbands. It's hard to have to choose between two people you love. But how can you love someone who plots against your sister and empress? They settled for it and were slowly changed for the worst. You only really know someone when you see them facing something that doesn't go their way. Yanyan and Derang didn't lose their minds when they were separated by Mingy. They could have plotted against him and easily won, but they didn't because they were good people and cared about the empire and the people and worked hard all their lives for a greater good. Their haters should have realized how much peace and security they were receiving through those afforts and be grateful.

I guess the father was ultimately right. When it came to separating Derang and YanYan for the bigger picture, Hunian was ruthless enough to do it. But when it came to personal matters, she did put her own emotions before justice.

Thank you to all that were involved in this epic dramatic series. I can not imagine what it was like to live in that time, and to be in positions of power. It is such sacrifice and it's a wonder they didn't all go insane over it. The one king became an alcoholic over it and became insane because he thought everyone wanted to kill him. That would be a constant fear for anyone of that time. I think about all of the young soldiers who sacrificed their precious lives, and the servants who were so faithful and died at the whim of crazy and selfish masters. It really makes you feel how precious life really is. The telling of this historical drama is so deep and wide with so many layers. I wish all that were involved with this a prosperous and peaceful life. Well done!

Your series remember me, as a classical music fanatic, of Richard Wagner, which I adore. The epics, the drama, the plots, the magesty the ups and downs, the tragedies, the forbiden loves, the revenges, the Historical acuity, well unbeliavable. An huge kowtow to EVERYBODY involved in these series. 看评论有些人在为大姐抱不平，可是那是她自己的选择啊。她为了一己私欲，选择劫狱；不顾全大局，与自己的妹妹和弟弟（萧继先是爹爹死后，三姐妹为其选的义子）敌对，引起内战。多少人因为她的情与欲白白地死掉，她这已经是大辽的罪人了。燕燕是顶住了所有大臣要杀大姐的压力留她性命的。至于罨撒阁，他都已经杀到开皇殿了，燕燕不射他一箭，他当时就直接把主上给杀了。（试想一下，我家敌对亲戚跑到我家杀我，那我肯定有权利开枪自卫啊）。至于喜隐，燕燕留了他好几次，甚至最后一次造反燕燕还说要留喜隐和留礼寿。他们后来死了是因为主上死前为保护燕燕母子为他们做的最后一件事。再说又不是燕燕让他们去谋反的。至于乌骨里，她要毒杀燕燕在先，后来事情败露自己服毒自尽。当时燕燕清了现场，就是为了保护乌骨里。 每个人都应该为自己的行为负责任，就像那马奴，刺杀主上，本该被处理，不能因为胡撵可怜就另行处理。难道我儿子杀了人，我去和执法机关求情，说我只有一个儿子，如果他死了，我会很可怜。那执法部门就该把他放了？

认真看完整部剧, 又兴致勃勃快速二刷, 感觉拍的真心不错, 各方面都讲究. 可以说是近期比较好看的一部戏了. 女主的戏不好拿捏, 但唐嫣从头到底把萧燕燕的每一个人生阶段, 微表情, 眼神, 身体行为, 气质, 气场状态, 都演绎得恰如其份, 真实不过份, 不造作, 不夸张. 一直觉得唐嫣的演技很合理, 很生活化, 是能让人物立起来的. 这部戏又做了一个很好的背书. 其他主演们也都很不错, 只可惜佘诗曼的妆容造型没处理好, 每次听到叫她"小胡辇"都觉得挺无法接受的.

Loving this drama, it shows how family will turn on you in a crisis. I must admit Yanyan has been really tolerable with her sisters. Both sisters have proven there's no sisterhood unless its giving a get out of jail free card for the men in their life. How many times do she have to beg her jealous sisters to meet her halfway. The second sister should have been killed with her rebellious son and husband since she knew what her husband was planning. The elder sister didn't know what her husband was planning at first but when she found out she do anything to stop him. Where's the sisterhood when it comes to men.

Shawn Duo plays amazing character role here as Prime Minister General Han Derang who made a name for himself successfully, and never change the 'Man he is, who also was hero saving his Country and Empress, He is so intelligent smart, and he never stop loving Yanyan his first true love..💜👑 Too bad they never having kids of their own together before they past away of strange illness, and they both die one year, and half apart from each other. RIP both Derang & Yanyan Queen Empress, and Lord Prime Minister, General as Husband & Wife..🙏 Good drama, alots of twist and turns and schemes, murder in this series drama.

I feel so sad for Hunian. I think she was mistaken by a lot of people too. At the end she said she was sometimes envious of Yanyan and didn't understand how her fate turned out the way it did. There's a difference to someone who does and doesn't act on these jealous feelings. Hunian never acted on her jealousy if they were present and she always protected and took care of her sisters back then. When she finally found love again she only asked that he accompanied her and gave him and option to not come if he didn't feel like it. She only wanted to be with the person she loved, I don't see what was so wrong about that. She was also tricked to go back to the capital just to give the troops back which was very manipulative. I felt like a better discussion on that could've saved her relationship with Yanyan. So sad these sisters couldn't overcome what happened between them

yanyan was sincere in asking hunian to come back; she may plan to discuss w/ hunian about the troops at some later date; the problem was the 'hillbilly boy'; he knews nothing about court 'manners' in dealing with imperial palace, he just speak his mind and so he'd come off as offensive which was what happened. The inexperienced emperor started it when he brought up about troops and retirement on an occasion that was supposed to honor the military and Hunian for all they did for the country, .....and it provoked hillbilly boy to retaliate, (he was only defending Hunian, can you blame him)....and he was right for thinking that it was a manipulative move on the queen's part even though it wasn't the case, but the way he did it offended the queen. So all hell broke loose, on top of that, he tried to harm the emperor which was very foolish. In any case, it all started bc of the emperor's poor judgement to bring it up on a wrong occasion. It would've been wisely handled by the queen and big sis at a later date. Queen should've let big sis and hillbilly boy go for all the unintended mishap....as it is, it led to tragedy that could've been avoided. Hunian just wanted to live the rest of her years happily with hillbilly boy, they weren't plotting against the queen or anything...not like yansage or siygi

Yes. Yanyan should have simply talked it out with Hunian. Her emperor son was a reckless fool for embarrassing his aunt in front of the ministers like that. You do not treat your elders and people who did you decades of meritorious service like that and expect grace and loyalty.

@@vennue9958 True. Alot was preventable. But...intentionally leading armed men to injure an emperor is attempted assassination and the penalty is the ultimate one. That can't change otherwise there would be innumerable attempts if potential culprits think that they could get away with their lives preserved. Even unintentional injury or harm to a monarch is taken as an assassination attempt. The commonest culprits involved in assassination of monarchs are family members & even then they get executed. Now how about this unruly outsider who disrespected the court & monarch publicly then went on to stab the emperor? What Eldest sister forgot was that her wild boy mentioned rebellion the night before so he'd most likely intended to kill the emperor to make his GF the ruling monarch. Also Hunian forgot that the nephew wasn't an ordinary one, there was going to be no private forgiving. The court & country were going to demand for his head. Lastly I was disappointed in Hunian as a army general. Those troops aren't hers and running to the north then sending troops belonging to the emperor (though she calls them her own) to fight against a decree was rebellion and very wrong. She would rather send thousands or hundreds of thousands of troops to their death inorder to protect the man who attempted to assassinate the emperor? I guess she lost her rationality because of "love" but this was a woman who supported her late husband in his rebellion. I didn't trust her to have 100% loyalty because she was no longer close to her sister. Emperor's reasons were correct but he should've discussed with his regents first and talked to aunt in private. Though her wild boy would probably have behaved the same way 🤷‍♀️

This is one story I got hooked. Each episode is never boring, the acting of the stars are remarkable. Facial expressions and their eyes will make u carried away, like you were there with them. I particularly like Jing Chao as Mingyi and of course Tiffany. Mingyi portrayed the role of a sick emperor and no doubt he hit this role. I adore his character of being cool, doesn't shout in times of trouble but he's very quick to respond and foresee the consequence of every wrong actions.Very meticulous take cautions in everything. In short, he's very smart and intellectual, though sickhe made me worry about him all the time but , he managed to get back on his feet as he has a desire to serve his people and country with the help of Yanyan. I like them not hysterical even when their son got sick. The Prime minister, Siwen is also super and worth noted, I've seen him many times in other costume dramas so I know he will not fail his viewers. Derang is a loyal and brave hero here. He suffered so much emotionally when his love was taken away from him by Mingyi whom he considered as brother and a best friend.... But maybe that is ought to happen for a reason. Yansage and Hunian were awesome. Well for me Wuguli and Xiyin are the most fortunate couple having a son, money and love between them should be enough to feel contented w life but unfortunately that's not the case with Xiyin..... What had happened to Zhimo was so unfortunate, but repented and made him a better person as he found peace and contentment with his life, only his wife is not the right person for him. I still want to say many things.. Congratulations to the director, and all the cast and crew of this Legend of Xiao Chuo.
