I have a question and a request. I saw once a BTS of the two, on the roof, the nightless city. Fight on the rooftop. XZ was sitting and YB was standing. XZ told YB that they can not act together anymore after the Untamed. YB is so unhappy and says to a person we dont see: You said we could. You told me that we could. XZ says that it wont be possible and if he wants to end the scene. Yibo says yes but he is clearly so unhappy at all… It would be great, if you could help a fellow Turtle out. thank you.

I am shocked at the way Xiao curses so easily..the use of f**k you, tie up and so on in other clips. Quite contradictory to the helpless and sheepish image he projects to fans. I feel like people don't see the real xiao but the image they projected of him. To me he is an actor in his real life but yibo is more like what you see is all there is. This of course would reflect on there acting skill. I mean how can you unact your act to act? But when xiao sings, he readily drops his acting cover and goes deep. To anyone insightful, you would see..

Xiao zhan has such an expressive face. Using it is a part of him communicating & acting all the time. Don't know about the curse language. They all sprinkle their conversations with bits of English, Korean, & Japanese. I wouldn't take the connotations to be the same as the native speakers. I would trust the tone of voice. In the translations many words though literally right are just off. For the Untamed the Netflix translation is generally better (less jarring to native English speakers) than the one I've watched on KZbin. Actually the more I see of C-dramas and fanfic the more I wonder how much I understand. I appreciate when a native speaker steps in and explains the background, for example the symbolizism of husband leading the donkey with his wife on it. Some things I have a suspicion don't translate. For example Never Night and Ever Light are both used as the translation for something. While they are both physically the same, it seems that it must be something else. Sorry I've gone on a bit but there are so many things that I wonder about understanding.

@@maryannbetts8787 I've also wondered about "Unclean Realm" on Netflix, but "Yet Clean Realm" on KZbin and Amazon. The biggest problem I have with Netflix translations is the subtitles for names and titles. Constantly using "Jiang Yanli" for Shijie and Jie and then in the climax when Lan Xichen tells a'Yao not to call him "Er Ge" again and Netflix translates it as not to call him "Lan Xichen" again - completely confuses the whole exchange. I'll have to check ep 20 again to see how they handled the verbal escalation between WWX and LZ when they met for the first time after WWX was cast into the Burial Mounds (or as someone else pointed out, the "Unburial Mounds" given the quantity of unburied bodies there). Netflix completely misses the whole point and subtlety of the uses of names and titles in the drama, which was very confusing to me until I developed my ear enough to hear the names in Chinese. The confusion with Netflix names did lead me to some great blogs that explained a lot of things that were lost in translation and to some analysis vids - so I forgive them. As you say, the rest of their subtitles do generally read better to English speakers and I recommend the Netflix version to first time viewers.

To be fair, we all act proper in public but more relaxed around friends and family. I have no problem dropping f- bombs around my friends but I would never do so in public. He’s acting the ways guys normally behave around each other. He does have an image to keep as a Chinese celebrity because government rules are so strict there so it’s understandable in my opinion how differently he acts in different situations. Also, he genuinely believed that they would never release these clips otherwise he would not have been so carefree. There was a clip of ten cent announcing they will release many BTS clip and you could see Zhan and Yibo’s shocked reactions.

I think it should've been translated as waist not abdomen. In some scenes he way hanging in the air or being lifted into the air by wires attached to his waist. He was probably hurting from all of that.
