Rachel, I am a PA and I started this positive encouraging method of teaching even as a PA student when I had med students learning under me. I do the same now as a PA with new PAs, MDs, RNs, essentially whoever it is coming in. I want learning to be fun and exciting not scary. I do the same and it makes me feel good.

When I was new at my job and would ask questions I was often told “it’s not that hard” Made it so I wouldn’t ask questions. I think having to learn by failing is terrible. Why do I need to do it wrong and get yelled at to learn it instead of being able to ask questions? “It’s not that hard” to be nice and to not belittle others. Congrats on the engagement!!!

Your sO sweet! When I was doing my clinical rotation to become a Surgical Technologist..some of the surgeons were really sweet but others not so much! It’s almost like they forgot what it was like being a student. It’s kinda sad. I appreciated the sweet surgeons sOoOoOoO..much. I will never forget them❤. Your going to be that doctor for someone. Im a vet med student and I have lost my enthusiasm and passion for working in clinical medicine, because of exactly the reasons you talked about.. I am not a believer of “stop being sensitive, grow thick skin” attitude in teaching in medicine.. Im a feeler and when I just want to help and be useful it is really disheartening to have someone yell at you for a thing you couldn’t have possibly known. Im sad.

i think medicine in general people are either aggressive and passive aggressive and in some of your content I feel like there is a very negative undertone. learning and people being nice and not acting out of fear is super important. fear just creates more mistakes and is toxic in and of itself.
