Engey Nimmadhi trivia! 1. Sivaji’s home production in 1964 2. Directed by Dada Mirasee, a Bengali lawyer 3. Dada Mirasee had claimed that he was the de facto director of Sivaji’s earlier classics like Karnan under B R Banthulu’s name 4. TMS said this song was his most difficult one but he sang it in just one recording 5. The music duo Viswanathan-Ramamurthy were at their peak in 1964, only to go separate ways a year later. 6. Largest number of musicians, especially string instruments, ever assembled for a Tamil song. EVER! 7. Sivaji enacted to the VR duo how he wanted this song pictured so that they could bring out with their music the characters’ inner turmoil and longing for a peace of mind 8. Movie was shot in the Alfred Hitchcock style popular at the time. 9. Director almost sacked Saroja Devi because of the interruptions her mother was making on the sets while filming. 10. A classic today but at the time in 1964 fans didn’t know how to react to Sivaji’s anti-hero role, contrary to the reception of Sivaji’s ‘Antha Naal’ (That Day) in 1952, a Rashomon styled suspense film where he played a Japanese informer.
