I had the old Waeco CF80 which was a solid unit, didn’t turn off for the better part of 5 years, but I never tested it in detail like you guys. I then had An Engel 60l and the analogue dial just did my head in, it’s not the 1980’s anymore. Would be nice if the dial had a locking feature or incremental notches so it couldn’t be accidentally bumped or something. That always scared me as the back of my car is always so full of shit when I’m on the road. I ended up trading it with a mate for the ARB 60l and I run it 24/7 for last couple years in the hot Australian summer in the back of my Patrol, I do have to set it at -2 to achieve a pretty constant 0 temperature though,. But once it’s set you never have to touch it again so it’s hardly an issue. Seems very reliable and barely cycles through the night, or if it does it’s so quiet I don’t hear it because I literally sleep in the wagon next to it. Would be nice to see a ‘usability’ test, where I rekn the digital display fridges come into their own. I love the fact I can set the fridge to whatever temp I want and then it’ll go about it’s business drawing down VS the Engel dial where you have to set on the dial and monitor and then learn what each value from 1-5 equates to in degrees. I happily accept some very minor temperature variance between display V reality for how user friendly the digital units are, because let’s face it all the fridges have their little quirks and if we wanted all out temperature reliability with next to no fluctuations then it would have to be National Luna which are actually used for organs transfers etc

Interesting test. Engel is the clear winner in this test. The contents of the fridge being the water bottle was at the lowest temperature and used the lowest comparable power consumption. The Waeco used just as little power but the contents weren't as cold meaning it would have to use more power to lower the temperature of the water bottle to equal the Engel.

On average over night when the doors are not opening and closing how many A/H in total to keep contents at 4C? I need this to figure out how large a battery I need for it.

8 amp over 12 hours or 8 amp per hour?

Yeah these guys are not using the correct terminology. No way an engel draws 8 amps per hour. I believe it is 8 amps over 12 hours which is approximately 2.4 amps at 30% duty cycle which is consistent with all other tests I've seen.
