I have really appreciated the time and effort you guys have put into these videos about refrigeration options. For my money the SnowMaster takes it! The tests you ran reinforced what I have long suspected. The producers of this equipment should be beating a path to your door about product development and improvements! Keep up the great work on 12 volts!

So if I get my snomaster CL56 and leave it overnight for 8 hours without opening the lids can I assume that it will only draw 29/3=7 A/H total in which case I could feed it from my starter battery? Andd still be able to start my vehicle in the morning?

Yes in theory, Many variables to think about. Outside temp, Age of the starter battery, type of battery and size of battery.

Your data displayed in video is different than audio in video. Which data is correct between consumption and temperature, chart or audio?

Hi Shaun. I enjoyed the series, was disappointed to see some of ARB results as that is what I use. Just for info, you may know, thr ARB has a function to calibrate the temp setting so you can adjust it so the display matches the internal temp if there is a discrepancy like you saw. I vaguely remember from my physics lessons that choosing 0c as the target temperature for the 24 hour test may not have been ideal. Something along the lines of it taking a significant amount of extra effort to go from above to below zero as the water is trying to change phase from liquid to solid. This would naturally favour the fridges who werent quite getting zero or just under. I'm not a scientist as you can tell!!!

Lawrence Iley out of all my fridges the waeco is most probably the quietest. And the Engel the loudest but when they have there covers on you can hardly hear any of them. But the beauty of the snomaster the cover comes standard at no additional expense. So by right out the box the snomaster is the quietest

It also depends on cycling temperature setting difference, for example I set up my Alpicool fridge to cooling Temperature of 0C and cycling temperature to 3C which is going to keep fridge off until it worms up from 0C-3C and it going to turn on and cool back to 0C again or I can set cycling temperature to ge 5 degrees and then the fidge won't turn back on until it worms up from 0C to 5C and this mode will of course save more power as the fridge will cycle less time, hopefully you understand what I mean and I would like you to do a test on that over 24hr and if you can find and share with us what the default cycling temperature setting of each of your tested fridges is, for my Alpicool the cycling temperature is 3C

As you know I run an Engel MT42 and Weaco CFX40..... and recently a Snomaster . I returned the Snomaster to the dealer because it simply wasn’t getting cold .... they replaced it under warranty with a new one. I’ve used the new Snomaster twice over two 2 day trips.... today I took it out and replaced it with the Weaco. This Snomaster simply chews through my 165ah GEL batteries reserves at an alarming rate. I was willing to give the first unit a second chance and despite my confidence being dented I persevered.....but why should I increase the capacity of my solar and aux battery just to feed this power hungry fridge?
@ExpeditionExtreme
@ExpeditionExtreme 4 жыл бұрын
Streaky Chambers that’s really odd. Have you downloaded the stat sheet of all the fridges? They all performed pretty much the same on consumption. Obviously if the Snomaster is set on high it consumes more. But on the standard setting they are all pretty much the same

Expedition Extreme as you know I’ve got close to 30 years experience in running 12v fridges in Middle East climates.... data sheets mean nothing to me when I can do real life testing in my Expedition vehicles. I’m running identical battery setup in my Patrol and Ford...the Nissan however gets the Engel due to its size. On Friday I prechilled the fridge at home on DC medium setting for about 6 hours before switching over to AC....we arrived at camp 6.00pm Friday......come 8.00am Saturday my battery was down to 11.8v......I can’t remember ever seeing it that low even after two days with the Weaco. Yes I’ve looked at the results that you compiled...there’s no huge surprises there...in the category’s that really count everything’s within a few points of each other....but my experience over the weekend shoots the 24 hr power test clean out of the water..... I gave the Snomaster a fair shot.....thank god I didn’t pay full wack for it or I’d be pretty annoyed.

Streaky Chambers mate the data does not lie. It was done with a 12v guru living off 12v touring the oceans on a yacht. So wouldn’t say that experience or current set up trumps a controlled test. All the fridges work our pretty similar. So Waco vs Engel vs arb vs Snomaster current draw is all the same within small percentiles

Expedition Extreme tell your guru with all his experience to wave his magic wand and get my brand new Snomaster to perform like the 6 year old Weaco. I run my fridges in the worlds hottest deserts....I don’t confess to know anything about boats. Right now I’m running the bigger of the two compartments as the fridge...with the smaller compartment set to maximum above ambient...I can’t see any other way to trick the fridge into running as a single compartment fridge and only use a reasonable amount of power.

John Publius nice! I looked at that but for my storage / bed build in the back of my JKU I needed the MT45/Snomaster 42/small National Luna shape (narrow and tall). It had to fit in the width behind the 30% seat...

The big test would be to copy this same 24 hours and then continue for another 24 hours but take out 1 cold bottle and put in one warm bottle every few hours and see how they cope .. Also having them in a hotter ambient environment to replicate a hot 4WD might sort the boys from the men ...!

Lol, will try it one day. The logistics just to do these tests were insane. Took us forever. Failed attempts, forget to check the fridges in time. Ac switched off, so the ambient temps were different. Took a lot more effort than we anticipated, but learnt a lot doing the test. Maybe someday soon we can run some test at 40 or 50 degrees when it’s summer.

If the waeco took 5 hours to cycle and come up to temp and the snomaster in only an hour that means the waeco was only cooling fully for 19 hours of that test. That could be why its power consumption was so low over the whole test time for 24 hours. In your first test it seemed that the snomaster was close to 13 degrees cooler in over the 30 minute mark in the video. This is the test I'm referring to kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKWaaaWYq5icZqc So the waeco and engel did not have the same thermal energy created.

Seeing as you knew from your previous tests that the ARB display was 3* out reading 3* too Low why did you not calibrate it so it matched the Temp settings then you would have got the correct bottle Temp reading and also the A/h results may of been higher or lower,, either way you are determined to make YOUR Beloved Snomaster come out on top, Please don't do any more testing of products, Because even though the ARB used a 5th less power than YOUR Snomaster You still made the results Suit your Needs, Because in the power test YOU cheated and Manually over roded the Snomaster so it would use less power by switching it to the Low Setting and then Claimed the WIN for the SnoMaster and in this test YOU Knew the ARB Gauge was Out by 3*c and it needed Calibrating yet you still Ran it in this testing Knowing that it would NOT Produce Accurate Results And then Claiming the Win again for Snomaster even though The Snomaster was Beaten by the Waeco and the ARB, YOU Guys made the Result to Suit YOUR Brand Loyalty, Fact is The other three fridges are the Better fridges. DESPICABLE.

G 55 my beloved snomaster?????? I have been using Engel for 10 years...... Cheated by changing the setting on the snowmaster????? Clearly you have not watched the entire series. We ran two tests on the snomaster as it is two fridges built into one. We explained this clearly in episode 1 and therefore two results as we deemed the fridge to be two fridges. Please do not make comments if you have not watched all the episodes. If this is not clear enough to you. I’m happy to do an episode just for you. These tests were done totally unbiased as we did not know how any of my fridges would perform. I clearly mentioned this. I also mention that in my opinion the waeco, which I deemed as the worst fridge in my stock surprised the hell out of me. Fact is the fridges were tested as is and the results are as is. Why do I have to calibrate a fridge? The rest of them were just fine. So if you say I cheated with the animated by running the auto setting and the low setting, the clearly I would be cheating by calibrating the ARB. Engel guys might hate the results as I did. Clearly you love your ARB, and that is your absolute right to back your brand. The results are what they are and you can interpretation them as you please. We did not create these tests to force anyone to purchase a fridge of our preference. Instead we ran tests over 4 weeks and gave the results as is. U choose what’s suites you best. But please before you comment willy nilly or accuse me of being biased towards one of the fridges, know what you talking about! Fact! Snomaster is cheaper Fact! Snomaster cools quicker Fact! Snomaster beat the arb hands down on insulation Fact! Snomaster is two fridges built into one. Your choice on how to use it. My opinion is Snomaster has taken the leadership from Engel as the best fridge in the 40l range. My opinion.

Among others I also have an ARB and there is no way does it rise from -10*c to +9*c in a few hours and it wouldn't rise that much in 24 hours and If I set it to 2*c then my drinks are within 0.2 to 0.6*c So something is not happening with the fridge you tested, You posted that your ARB was 2.3* warmer but as you already know that your fridge dial is already out by 2 to 3*c which would explain why you said that the drinks were 2.3* warmer, You can correct this offset by calibrating it,

So the test is freezing water in 24 hr analyzed. This test is misleading to the tumb nail “ Fridge test power consumption “. This is max amp power test to freezing sold in 24 hr. Cause the highest amp freezer ( fastest freezing water ) will win, because it will run longer ( more hr) on less amp after reaching freezing . The snow master compressor use 60 Watts. The Engel uses around 21 Watts. So after reaching your set operational temperature the snowmaster has to recycle 3 x Less than amount of time as the Engel. To beat the Engel. Yea right. Don’t make your purchase base of this test. Getting up to operation temperature should be omitted. You should start the test after 24 hr to another 24 hr. So it fair. What fridge can hold it with the less consumption. Beside the snow master has a delegated freezer compartment. The other half isn’t freezing temperature. unfair advantage . Saying this after reading below. Looking forward for a longer draw test for a few days
