Hello enGENIEer! I recently passed my PE exam and thanks to the youtube algorithm, your videos were recommended. Having looking through some of your videos, I can say that I truly respect the effort you are putting into these videos along with the advice you are putting out. The FE exam is not an easy exam by any means. I feel many future professional engineers will benefit greatly from your videos. I don't know if you have taken your PE exam yet, but I would hope you would also create videos to help others to pass the PE exam as well. Keep up the great work! :)

Which book would you recommend to use for studying for FE Mechanical Engineering?
@stevekramer8892
@stevekramer8892 5 жыл бұрын
Great video! One question: the NCEES site says "The FE is offered in seven disciplines" and when I look in, say Industrial I only see Industrial questions. But the FE has general questions, too, right? I thought you said one half (1st part) is general, and 2nd part is specific: so does the "FE Other Disciplines" cover the general Engineering Core area tested??
@Genieprep
@Genieprep 5 жыл бұрын
Hello Steve, thank you for watching. So some disciplines would cover the general engineering classes, for examples, if you look at FE civil, in the morning, it covers general topics, like math, statistics and probability, static, mechanics of materials and so on, in the afternoon, it covers topics are specific to civil engineering, like concrete, steel, transportation, environmental, hydrology/hydraulics. FE other disciplines covers general engineering. Are you planning to take your FE but you are not sure which discipline to take?

@@Genieprep YOU ARE AWESOME with such a quick reply!! No, I want to take Industrial/Systems but want to know what to study. I see yours covered some Engineering econ and IE stuff, but I don't see any of the statics, dynamics, fluids, thermo in IE specification ??
@Genieprep
@Genieprep 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you Steve, some of the FE disciplines don't cover the general engineering topics, so you just need to go over the specifications of your own discipline and study those topics for your FE exam. I hope this helps and good luck with your exam!
@stevekramer8892
@stevekramer8892 5 жыл бұрын
@@Genieprep Again, thank you for your thoughtful and timely reply!!! Do you happen to know if PE exams REQUIRE the discipline-specific? In other words, is the Other only good for disciplines NOT on the list of 6? A related question is regarding those "old folks" that took the general exam prior to CBT and now want to go for PE - Does the PE accept FE from general (pre 2016) and then something else after CBT?

Hi, I'm planning to take the FE exam this year. I just watched your video and I had a doubt about the two sessions that you mentioned the exam is divided into. You said that the first session is of basics of engineering and the second of the discipline one wants to pick. In the NCEES website you can only find prep materials for the discipline you want to go for but not for the basics of engineering nor they say anything about it. Where can I see that in detail?
@Genieprep
@Genieprep 6 жыл бұрын
Hello Fernando, what I meant is that the first part of the exam is usually the subjects that you will take in your first year of college, like statics, materials, strength of materials, math and so on, the second sessions is based on subjects that are more specific to your major, for example for civil engineers will be tested on Geotechnical engineering, transportation, environmental, construction, structural analysis, surveying and so on. Where as for mechanical engineers will be tested on heat transfer, thermodynamics and so on. I hope this make sense!

I hope this answers your question et je te souhaite bonne chance.

I didn't take the EIT exam when I graduated because (1) back then there was a combined EIT exam for all engineering disciplines with an emphasis on thermodynamics (mechanical engineering) for some reason, (2) there was a severe post Cold War recession with 2 ads a month for electrical engineers requiring 5 to 7 years experience and NO EIT, and (3) a fairly bright classmate flunked it by 1 point. I know that PE are in demand, an exam you take after a year or two of working as engineer with EIT, but Engineering isn't a high demand job for me to find work due to other unrelated factors so now I drive Uber.

@Genieprep

Yes, so you have a total of 5hr 20min, and you get to spend that as however you want! So let's say, you spend 2 hrs on the first 55 questions, and then you will be asked to take break, after your break, you will have only 3hr 20 min to finish the rest of the exam! Also, keep in mind, that once you take your break, you can't go back to the first questions, so make sure you review your answers before your break. I hope this helps and thank you for watching! @Genieprep
@Genieprep 4 жыл бұрын
@@ronaberin435 @Ron Aberin Hi Ron, so the first part usually has 54-58 questions and the second part has 52-56 questions. You will have about 5.5 hours to take the exam. You can't take the break until you complete the first half. Any breaks before then will be unscheduled and deducted from your time. After you've completed the first half you can take a 25 minute scheduled break. If you decide not to, it will not be added to your time. Once you take the break, you cannot go back to the first section of the exam.

I passed! I had only been able to study a little bit at the beginning of this semester and then a couple Marshall University review videos every week a few weeks before the test. Watching your video helped out a lot because I had never considered a strategy until the day before. The part about how much time to spend on each section was especially helpful in pacing myself during the test, since I never practiced timing myself on questions. Thank you for the video!

great video. Did the questions come in order of topics or do they pop out random? Just wondering because I believe a good strategy is to go to the topics your strong in and do those first and leave the tougher subjects for later.
@Genieprep
@Genieprep 6 жыл бұрын
From my experience, it did go in order, however, sometimes you might randomly get 1 question in transportation while you are in the fluid section. So it really depends, I hope this answers your question and good luck 😊
@coyp.999
@coyp.999 6 жыл бұрын
Your breakdown of the first section and second section are incorrect according to NCEES. On one of their videos, this was their response to that topic. "The difference between the old format and the new, computer-based format is that the exams are now entirely discipline-specific. You can download the specifications for each exam on this webpage, but it doesn't indicate which questions are in the first 55 and which are after the break. We do not make that distinction."
@Genieprep
@Genieprep 6 жыл бұрын
That is true, we cannot make that distinction, I totally agree with that. But from my own experience, and after talking to my students and friends who took the F.E. exam, they said that the first part would cover materials on math, statics, strength of materials and so on. I was just sharing that information totally based on my own experience, however, if during the exam, you get a question on concrete on the first part, then take the time needed to answer the question. I guess what I am trying to say is just make sure you prioritize your time correctly, keep track of the time, so you can finish the test on time. I hope that make sense.
@coyp.999
@coyp.999 6 жыл бұрын
That makes sense. Have you heard if the questions jump around to the different sections or do a set of questions come up before moving to the next subject? For example, the first 4 questions are math, the next 5 are statics vs 1 math then 2 statics then 1 strength of materials.
@Genieprep
@Genieprep 6 жыл бұрын
@@coyp.999 It does jump a little bit but not a lot. For example, you may get 4 questions in math, 3 in statics then 1 in math again. So it just depends, but the majority of the time, you will get set of questions on a subject before jumping to the next one.

Hello Muthanna, so what I usually recommend to my students is to always refer to the specifications and the reference handbook. If there is an equation or a topic in the reference manual but it is not mentioned in the specifications then don't worry about it, it is probably relevant to the other FE exams. I will try to post some videos on what to focus on for each subject for the FE civil. I hope this helps and good luck with your studying.
