On the edge of the continent, the Turkey crew fights icing danger to make the critical jump over the North Atlantic to Santa Maria in the Azores. But the next day, en route to Portugal, crew #2’s right engine fails. With a plane full of slopping fuel and no power on one engine, it will take all of their ingenuity and experience to get back into Santa Maria, where the airport is on full emergency alert.
In Yellowknife, Mikey and Scott page through piles of resumes to search for another trained pilot willing to endure initiation as a Buffalo rampie. Jeremy’s mood plummets even further as Audrey and new threat Wilf Darr seem sure to pass him.

The suspense of delivering those planes is not good for me. Finally…..real reality tv. No crap! What a great group of people at Buffalo Airways. You make it look easy.

Rampy - flight attendant- copilot is not a pathway in Australia. Each job is a separate occupation with separate training and separate unions. Airlines take trainees which already have private pilots licenses with up to 500 hours. They are then taken into a full time, fully paid training program run by the airlines.

The answer there is all those applicants are already CPL holders. They want to work at this airline due to the interesting equipment they have. Thus, they put up with roles below their pay grade in the expectation that they'll get transferred to being flight crew.

I'm over 65 years old now and long retired airline pilot and when I "force" myself to watch these long winded sagas of Canada's north I see absolutely NOTHING ever changes with these abusive operators in bush country. Regulation has never been a part of the safety culture-at least what they will not tell you here in their highly entertaining episodes. Not only are violations and personal abuse a way of life I know with absolute certainty there are still desperate young pilot wannabees who do not know the presence of the dangers and working conditions (flying antique junk for one thing) yet alone the disgusting pay and lifestyle. In a perfect world of course I wouldn't dare write these remarks but what you are seeing here is a nauseating reminder of what I went through seeking a start on my flying career and I can happily say in my situation I was able to bypass this horrid grief. It's the good old boys and a payola scheme with Transport Canada that people like "Joe" (Barffalo Airways) and his abusive incriminating cohorts operate in the Great White North and STILL get away with illegal infractions. Also know this: There is actually a well known memorial statue or shrine erected for the loss of life of so many young pilots who lost their lives in a location somewhere north because of all the other "Joes". Just my own opinion.

If people want a career in aviation, there are way better choices than the haywire Buffalo Airways.

Ring your nurse. I flew as 'cargo' with Buffalo and Air Tindi for 7 years...and if it wasn't for these ''abusive, old boy air operations''...this country wouldn't exist. Joe McBryan is no different than any barking front-line Sgt-Major when it comes to the lives and welfare of the people and passengers that he is responsible for, with not one life lost in the 53 years of service. They've got more gutz in one middle digit than all the rest of us put together... Brave, resolute men and women flying in the most brutal, mind-numbing conditions, with the magic formula at the end of the day... great humour and love for what they do... flying not in what you deem as junk...is the amazing flying heritage that is Canada at it's finest. For me, it was a great massive thrill and experience to be invited to sit up in the jump seat, and it will always remain a true honour to have known them.

I appreciate and respect your reply. I do no disagree with much of your point of view, much of the backbone of Canada relies on it's "air horses".

The narrator still hasn't picked up on the fact that aviators (like mariners) discuss distance in terms of nautical miles and velocity in terms of knots (nautical miles per hour) NOT kilometers! Get with the program, you lubber!
