Turns out it was the mounting bolt of the alternator; it was loose enough to produce a rattle sound.

I had the same problem. Come to find out (and I have no clue how) the alternator bolts backed out of the threads, had a 2013 f350 6.2

Wondering who put the alt in? There must be a lose nut somewhere or bad bushing?

I’ve had the same problem I changed crank pulley and the Idler pulley and the power steering pump no joy it was the alternator when you turned it by hand it seemed fine , but when the belt was pulling on it the knocking noise started!! Good video than you

I just change the alternator thinking it was the cause of the noise but sound don’t going away think I’m have to use the long screwdriver to see where the sound coming from

The same here :) I was already suspected crankshaft bearings und it was such a tiny problem...

I had a somewhat similar noice in my Ridgeline. Replacing the alternator worked for me. (I also had the idler pulley and all the timing belt parts replaced, but the alternator was the one making the noice). The bolts were defo not loose :)

did you replace the alternator?if so, did it stop the rattling? I have the same noise happening to me on my ford explorer, the noise only happens when the car is in drive, it especially gets loud at stop lights and or when the car is in drive and the brake is pressed

Hmm I was going to go straight in and rebuild mine with new bearings. Maybe I'll check the bolts first...

Thanks for good information! my car has similar noise ( rattle noise occurs only on cold start + battery warning light from time to time, ) . I'll check the mounting bolts of the alternator, too.

Mine is literally doing the samething. It does it on idle and in between 1000 rmp and 1500 then it goes away after.

Sounds more like your lifters. I took my belt off and started the engine and the sound went away. Put belt back on the sound came back. Used marvel mystery oil. That cleaned my lifters. and got rid of the tapping sound.
@iOliAC7 жыл бұрын
JourneyTotheTruthandTotalRandomness In my case the mounting bolt of the alternator was very loose and the alternator unit was rattling from the vibration of the engine. I agree that this common sound can mean a lot of things also.
@lonniecobb49016 жыл бұрын
If the sound went away with the belt disconnected then it was coming from something the belt turns......
@MrXYZ-uv4gj5 жыл бұрын
If the sound went away with the belt removed then why would you think it was your lifters? Your engine runs regardless of the belt. However, the serpentine belt drives your accessories, usually the alternator, water pump, power steering pump including a belt-tensioner and idler pulley.

The d17 or any of the honda motors do not have lifters.
