Engine Oil Leak due Oil Pan Gasket Fail

I think the original oil pan gasket on my 2000 Camry was a FIP gasket, and that's what I used when I put it back on. Car is now at 346K miles.

Peter, when I have run into difficult gaskets on pans and valve covers I have used a propane torch on the gasket to get them toasty hot and they usually scrape right off.

Wire wheel works great on the end of a drill. It usually doesn’t scrape the paint off either. Nice video.

what grade of wire wheel? there are different types i thot, steel, brass, nylon are ones i have read about... steel being the MOST abrasive and WILL (or supposed) to strip all paint and primer right on down to the nitty gritty

The differential cover on my 2000 Ford Expedition has no gasket. You are supposed to use that sealant, and then install the cover. The chromed cover I bought from Taiwan came with a gasket, so I used it, since it was much easier to do than trying to align the cover under there without getting the blue sealant all over everything, & not being 100% sure it wouldn't leak. Chromed steel looks cool as hell too. You can see it from 50 meters away & it matches the chromed bumper & silver paint. It looked so great that I painted everything under there Rust Oleum gloss black. That new self leveling Rust Oleum oil based paint is amazing stuff. Did you know that they still use cork insulation on some NASA rockets? Before it can burn away, the rocket stage is falling into the ocean. You could use a lot of paper towels around your shop, Peter. I never knew that the non-flammable brake cleaner (tetrachloroethylene, 'the good stuff') was what they use to dry clean clothes. Now I know how they get mechanics uniforms clean. They use a solvent to get the oil & grease out. I bought a whole case of it , since it will probably be banned soon, as it uses the greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide as the propellant in the cans. You probably don't want to inhale too much of it, especially in an enclosed room where the fumes could linger.

Could you just put Toyota gasket sealer around the lip of the pan and the engine with the pan still bolted on? I know it’s a shortcut but sometimes those exhaust pipes are impossible to get off

Question? If your oil pan is leaking, does the leak increase as you accelerate, like a midst? I looked around my pan and is wet with oil, just wanted to know. Thanks.

I have a question. My 2005 sequoia is at 170k miles and I don’t know if I should change the transmission fluid. I bought the car back in 2010 with 90k miles and it never has had any transmission services done to it. Whats your opinion on the matter?
