My 15 plate 2.0 tdci with 107k on the clock started overheating exactly the same 4 days before this video was uploaded. Originally replaced the thermostat myself at a cost of £185 which didn't solve it. My local dealer has just finished replacing the pump which had also stripped from the shaft and the belts as well. Came to a total of £465 inc parts and labour. At least replacing the thermostat wasn't a waste of time as it was living on borrowed time before it was going to start leaking ! Will remember your tip to check the expansion tank return pipe for flow if it ever happens again. Great video, nice to see you back on KZbin. Have saved me a small fortune in diagnostics and doing my own repairs over the last few years on my Mondeo's.

Alan, I always go to your channel when I want cheering up even though I don't have a Mondeo and after watching your videos have no desire for one. There must be a better choice out there which doesn't have a cambelt/water pump dual mass flywheel and clutch which all need changing at what seems to me a very low mileage - take the average mileage of 7-10000 per annum for a private motorist and it would likely cost more than the car was worth after 10/15 years to get this done and cause it be be scrapped. Our local garage in the '60's used to say that the only sensible choice for the working man was a Ford. How times have changed.

Bit of background on the overheating warning, it only works if you have water in the system a new warning was bought in during an ecu update as you know the thermostat tends to fail in a catastrophic way dumping all the water and causing the oil to get that hot it would melt the sump and drop the oil. And the only water temperature sensor in use was on the thermostat that then wouldn't have water so drivers would not see the heat increase. The update has a software that correlates between the thermostat and the oil cooler giving the warning, I'm not sure if you have updated all your cars or if you have access to ids i took the time during the last lockdown to update 75 of our mondeos very time consuming but saves a hell of a lot of money in the long run.

Hi Alan. Your Mondeo videos have been really helpful with sorting out my Mk4 2013 2.0 tdci thank you! Just wondering if you or anyone following this has had any issues with the fuel filler on these? Having a nightmare with it! Everyone says the same thing - "Ah yeah it's the Ford easy fuel thing and you are holding the fuel pump nozzle at the wrong angle!" Unfortunately its a bigger issue than the angle of the nozzle. It constantly clicks off unless you press it very very lightly and we are talking like 10 minutes to get £20 in the thing. There looks to be something broken/out of place underneath the flap the nozzle goes in to. Be massively appreciative if anyone has any advice on sorting it.
@alan4x4 жыл бұрын
hi john... i would get the breather pipe that runs down the side of the filler checked as it could be blocked

@@alan4x thanks. I removed the wheel arch liner which reveals the filler and pipe right down to the fuel tank. It was all pretty badly gunked up so cleaned it all up. Made sure the breather pipe wasn't blocked. No luck! However my mate works at a breakers and he's got me the full assembly from filler down to the tank. Hopefully replacing this sorts it. Hi Alan. £203 plus vat?? Bit bloody steep! I run a 2.0 Tdci Focus and always buy my Genuine Parts from Rates Ford who are based in Grays in Essex but also have an ebay shop. Back in May this year I bought a cam belt kit and water pump with the idler wheels etc for my Focus for £163 delivered. No-one can give me a clear explanation.Just wondering if I am right saying that if I block that return pipe nothing bad would happen to cooling system and pressure won't go up.?!
@alan4x4 жыл бұрын
that pipe from expansion bottle to thermostat allows any air in the cooling system to be circulated out of the engine...if it were blocked and you were low on coolant you could get overheating issues plus you would not be able to bleed the cooling system
@nemocap29584 жыл бұрын
@@alan4x Thank you so much!You cleared my chest!) I'm using this return pipe to connect petrol filter (transparent plastic body with paper filter inside) to filter coolant.Works like a charm!(under proper supervision of course)Lately bad egr coolant was injecting some soot in to coolant making coolant looking "unhealthy".5 filters returned the coolant to its former purity.(Same can be used to filter out sealant,rust,dirt, scale and etc.) I just was looking for proof that if there in no air in the system and enough coolant, this return pipe can be blocked (without consequences for the cooling system) let say if the filter clogs.Thank you once again.

I've considered fitting one to my 15 plate mondeo taxi but due to the side curtain airbags I haven't. Dread to think what would happen if they deploy during an accident and a polythene screen is in the way. Don't think insurance would be happy either with an unauthorised modification. Our council will fail any car with one fitted.
