Engine Saver Low Coolant Alarm Review - Defender 200tdi / 300tdi

The installation and review of an Engine Saver low coolant alarm for Land Rover Defender 200tdi or 300tdi models. An engine needs coolant to stop the engine overheating. If this leaks away, it may only take minutes before permanant engine damage occurs.
You may not notice a rising needle in time, hence why installing a low coolant alarm will give you plenty of warning so you may stop the vehicle safely and switch off the engine.

I have the Engine Saver, plus another low coolant sensor which came with my Madman EMS engine monitoring gauge just in case.

A bit late now, all these months on, but if you are getting air locks in the coolant system, the first thing to check is the Y-piece in the small bore hoses between thermostat housing, rad top and expansion tank; these gum up and prevent the gasses escaping to the expansion tank as they always should. If these hoses and Y-piece are clear, your rad should never get trapped air, even if you have a leaking system. It's a very common problem.

Nice bit of kit... I always shy away from pulling the bloody speedo cable out mind. The number of times I've cut my knuckles when it finally lets go!!!

does it feed +12 Volts into the coolant from the top sensor? 'cause if it does,it will cause electrolysis

No, it uses the earth to earth through the coolant to complete the circuit.

Shouldn’t be using a dc system for a coolant alarm as it will cause electrolysis.. use a 12v ac supply instead like the red arc or Davies Craig
