I wouldn't worry about what others think or say, or think they know, The right way is what you have done, check over first then pull down and then order what you need. I think I sort of know, I manage a tractor museum here in Queensland Australia, here we have to order some parts from over sea's and we can't afford to get stuff that we may not need. Keep up the good work.

Never driven a Major . Driven loads of dextas as they were the default scraper tractor at the time i was starting out in my first job on farms.I never had the joy of the gearbox getting stuck and always wonderd why some dexters had only one or two loose bolts holding the gearleavers down.My dream going to town rig would be a super major hooked to a Kidd rotoflail and a wooden sided trailer. Awesome vids mucker.

First things I ever drove in 1980 were Major Diesel loader (vacuum thottle) and Super Major's. Loved them, clutch changed, injector pump recon, head gasket change etc. Just don't mix your bolts and fine thread bolts up when rolling the engine back on the gearbox.

Once again a fantastic video. May I ask a question over 50 years ago as a kid I worked on a farm with a few tractors one was what I thought was a dexter now I’m not to sure, what I remember was that it had a button on the right side that you had to press with your calf and put it in gear to start it there was a key but only to make an electrical circuit what was the tractor.

@jefftheaussie22252 жыл бұрын
The first thing you should have ordered before the head came off was some crack filler. Everyone knows they will need some of that. I have always found that if you go through the parts catalogue and order everything, you can cover all contingencies, anything you don’t use will come in handy eventually. Anything that is promoted as universal will probably not fit anything at all but will come in handy later for fixing push bikes. Off course on all restorations you replace everything so there is no excuse at all for under preparedness. X-ray vision is not absolutely essential but can be quite useful in some situations. Jeff

Hey love those old super majors, it was the first engine I cut my teeth on. I was only 10 or 11 years old and I did a rebuild on my uncles super major after he had cooked the engine . Did new pistons and liners and bearing shells . That's a good engine swap you're doing , I think it will have a little more power if it's out of the super Power major? That would be the blue and grey model I think. As for the comment on ordering parts, You need to know what's needed before ordering what you need . Looking forward to seeing that super major running . All the best , Thank for another great video.

Nice engine swop, you have to know when to call time on what is now basically a boat anchor. It would also seem to me ,having spent a good few years keeping classic cars on the road, there are those that do and those who tell you what you should do. I usually end up telling them to f@(k off! Keep up the good work mucker!😄

That really is a sound little time capsule you have found, especially with Suffolk plates so somewhat local. So it needs a replacement engine, so what if there are changes made that update it and improve reliability, nobody would bat an eyelid if a revised injection system was installed on a three-year-old John Deere so if the Major runs, drives and can put in a day's work that is surely a better and more noble existence than for it to sit gathering dust because the OE fit jigged and onioned grolling or olive spantle isn't available?
