I'm completely impressed! I've assembled a lot of UAZs here in Hungary, and I have to admit, I hated them because they were never really good. In our country, the flatbed version was the tool for logging in the forest. The factory ~70 horsepower engine also regularly broke the half-axles, because the quality was very inconsistent. Especially the production coming from Ukraine was really crap. But if you accidentally managed to "catch" a well-made axle, it worked for years under multiple overloads. These cars were regularly used to transport 3 tons of wood. This is a modern Buhanka (we just called it a box UAZ), but we were dealing with old cars from the 70s and 80s. So I trust it and I encourage you that there are better axles under the car, because this 300 horsepower engine breaks weaker parts like a reed. The brakes are also very weak, definitely install stronger ones. Great channel, very nice work!

Yes the design of the front bumper is great. I really liked the way those huge Industrial nuts were incorporated to create an intersection between round pipe and flat steel. I originally thought they were holes for fog lights. The way the round tubing matched the shape of the body and provides added body protection reminds me of Australian scrub bars. I prefer it when the front and rear bumpers have the same design elements and match. My only criticism of the rear bumper is that I wish the outside sections used round tubing to match the front bumper design.

On the original Buhanka, the air filter is an oil-air filter-carburetor engine and the air intake is located under the hood on the right-hand side, but the old oil filter is really so good that you could also drive it through the desert in Afghanistan. I own a genuine 452 from 1968. best regards from Germany if you need spare parts for it, look for dealers in Poland, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria ... the vehicles were in use in all former Eastern Bloc countries, my bus was still on border duty in Hungary until 2002, 400 km up and down the border every day. My original engine has probably driven far more than 2,000,000 km. There is now a very large scene in Germany.

This reminds me a lot of the iconic Big Green video series; I love seeing TFL going back to the roots that made them so great.
@aerynlovell47542 күн бұрын
I was watching the Big Green series last week. I was surprised how much Roman enjoyed that old green GM truck. The guys on TFL are always saying that small displacement 4-cylinder engines are the future, but Andre bought a V8 Toyota, and now his Russian van has a V8 LS engine. When they started the van for the first time, it sounded like an angry (aggressive) loaf of bread.
@anthonyc18832 күн бұрын
And remember the episode where Roman took Big Green and trailer on the Ike Gauntlet, white knuckling it all the way down with its old 3-speed automatic and drum (I think) brakes? Awesome!
@aerynlovell47542 күн бұрын
@anthonyc1883 I didn't see the video of Big Green on the Ike. But my favorite was when Roman got a Raptor stuck on a snowy mountain, and Tommy had to rescue him with the old green truck. The constant beeping from alarms in the Raptor was really annoying. I'm used to Roman driving high-tech SUVs and was surprised how much he enjoyed driving a low-tech 4x4.

Great video guys can't wait to see how much faster the buhonka and waiting to see you truck running to david looks great, happy new year's
@Cloud300002 күн бұрын
Cold starts are very hard on lifters, with near dry cam lobes, thick oil and no oil pressure. The more cold starts, the more likely to see cam and lifter issues. I add Lubegard Biotech to all lifter engines just to keep a little layer of lubrication on the cams when cold to protect it until the engine circulating pump can take over. Early cylinder deactivation was a mess, but it has gotten better by maintaining full oil pressure and circulation on deactivated cylinders. Not as good as disabling it, but much better than early designs (similar to start\stop systems, which put extra wear on the cams and lifters).
@etteyafed2 күн бұрын
@Cloud30000 I was make sure to put assembly oil on every cam lobe before a fresh start. Even if it’s just an oil flush I’ll make sure both cams get some engine oil squirted on them before starting. Good opportunity to check or replace the valve cover gaskets.
@jeepinintexas62152 күн бұрын
I think the problem with the 454 lifters he was showing was due to new parts for old vehicles that are inferior to old original parts. The metals used to make them are softer cheaply manufactured crap from China or India. There's a channel called Car Wizard and he was talking about valvetrain problems with these new parts for old engines on some rebuilds his shop did.

Great Video Series, probably a TFL Best! As far as David's lifter issue, modern motor oils do not have a high zinc content since most modern push rod engines use roller lifters, You need to research motor oils that may have a higher zinc content in order to prevent the lifter wear,. Also when breaking in a new flat tappet cam, the motor needs to be started and immediately brought to 2000 rpms for a good 20mins and then gradually reduce the rpms. Hope this helps

David is truly a skilled fabricator, my gosh. And that house he built? What???? My god, that looks amazing. Andre, very happy for you that your loaf of bread is out of the oven lol. What an awesome project, and you even got the family involved, that is great.

Get a roller cam flat tap camshaft are garbage these days. A lot of people blame cheap Chinese blanks.

Great project and thanks for all of David’s help. About the transmission, on the 700R4, that cable that goes to the throttle body isn’t just a kickdown cable, like it was on the TH350, it sets the line pressure as well. As such, it needs to be synched correctly with the throttle, or the line pressure can end up too low, which will prematurely wear out the clutches and bands. There’s lots of info on the net on how to set this relationship correctly.
