Thanks for actually playing examples of the noises. Drives me nuts when channels upload videos about noises and never play the noises as if we're supposed to know exactly what they mean just by their basic descriptions

Well done video. I think one of the hardest to do things is to describe a sound to a mechanic. Especially for intermittent issues it definitely helps to provide better adjectives the mechanic can understand. Or for sound of mind to the driver an off sound might be normal

My gosh. This is the only video that mentions the noise my 04 camry has (that i have watched). The exhaust has been spitting white smoke at every cold start up for a few years, now. The noise is exactly like example 1 of a loud engine. So, now i know where to check. Thank you so much!!
@randihardy79724 ай бұрын
Maybe 4 months back I started noticing whenever I turned left the engine just sounded… off…. Then sometimes when idling it would have this low noise, but not all the time… turns out it was because my oil was low (found out my engine is burning oil) and it was actually knocking I was hearing. Still driving it 4 months later, now I’m just checking oil lvl every 3 weeks and filling as needed…. Which sucks…. These videos are so helpful. Didn’t realize that noise I was hearing was such a bad noise kind of surprised I didn’t blow the engine because I drove on apparently low oil for a couple weeks. I sincerely apologize to my engine. 😅

Thanks for the video. I have 2017 X5M 61k miles that sounds like rod knock, no lead up just appeared. I keep hearing it has something to do with low oil or oil consumption but from what I can tell none of that has happened. Having it towed to a dealer for diagnostics and of course it's right after the warranty ended.

I'll add one unexpected on - loud 'engine' - I had fan clutch that until it really crapped out, I did not realize how loud it was. Crazy really. But one thing to do when diagnosing noises is to run for just a bit without the fan belt to make sure it is not one of the accessories.

Bearing wise, if you end up taking a belt off, always see if you can test a pulley by seeing if it wobbles if you pull it back and forth. That’s another good way to confirm what bearing is going out.

This video with specific noise kinda help determine the source of the source of the noise. Got this knocking noise under the hood. Its there as I start the car. When pressing the accelerator. it get louder and faster. So its either a lifter/oil issue or an exhaust issue.

@BudgetMechanicHawaii11 ай бұрын
Does it match any of the sounds in this video?
@pauldavies966311 ай бұрын
@@BudgetMechanicHawaii thanks for the reply. Nothing like any of those sounds. Figure it must be transmission. It's fine with overdrive off, one a 1:1 torque ratio, but with the overdrive on, where it should be a 1:1.4(i think) ratio it drops to something like 1:0.8, so the engine is doing extra work with less result resulting in a racing wrrrr,wrrr,wrrr sound, untill it gets up to 4th then it cruises.

I think my car has a pre ignition situation. My car is getting that kind of sound in the example one of the pre ignition section. It's coming occasionally, sometimes like accelerating in 3rd or 4th gears up to like 2000rpm while the car running slowly around 40 - 50 kmph, then it goes away. Can this be the issue ? And finally about the video, one of the best 👌

Thank you for the video! Mine seems close to the ticking sound. I am still observing it and planing on posting it. Would you be willing to take a look? It seems to be close to the ticking sound. What I've noticed is that when the engine is cold (starting after a night in a garage) the noise is not there. After driving a while it is there on idle. I need to observe more if it comes on after certain speed or after certain gear.
