ENGINE WARNING LIGHT - AARGH !!! - VW T6 California Engine Warning Light and on route re set

An Engine Warning Light Appears on our VW T6 California. We perform a reset on route to hopefully clear the message. Everyone hates a warning light, especially when they are hundreds of miles from home knowing Limp mode or a recovery truck could be just round the corner...

Hi. Thanks for an excellent video! And thanks for some sound advice and comments. This just happened to my T5.1 2013 180. Quite a big loss of performance on the highway *might have been pushing the engine a bit, before the light started flashing non-stop. ,just kept on driving back home some 30min highway drive. Stepping out and locking it. Waiting, then restarted the car after 5 min and the lamp did not flash anymore. Hope to never see it again. Also will drive more slow

Happened to us with 200 miles still to drive from York back to Glasgow. Flashed all the way home, with no loss of performance, flashing. Stopped for fuel, and light had cleared on restart. Had it checked and garage said it was a sensor fault or glitch from one of 7 sensors, but could not tell which one. Apparently this is a common sensor fault glitch with VW and most times clears with a restart.

The old turn it off and turn it on again is always a good place to start. My take is if it reappears more than 3 times, get it checked by a diagnostic machine to see if it is an error you can live with or something that requires fixing more urgently...

You need to buy yourself a scan tool i have 2, one is VCDS excellent VW specific and the other I keep in my T5.1 all the time and that's Carly works via my mobile phone

i got the alhambra 115hp , turbo kicks in at 2000rpm on that. is it the same on your vw? could be a turbo issue, mine did the same but at 2000rpm and german is normally better than spanish. i drag a teardrop trailer in mine and cant go over 80kmh 6th gear will do 110kmh at 2000rpm so it was about a year with the orange spring flashing, till i realised the turbo wasnt kicking in lol in the spanish user manual, it refered to the spring warning as a diesel version sparkplug warmer for when it was cold... Disregarded it as i was traveling in cold countries and the seat never heated to like just past the middle like it always does in spain... till it was home and hot and engine temperature was at the middle after sitting all night or a couple of days at startup and it was still flashing...

Could be an exhaust problem..just had a relatively new VW Transporter delivered by a reputable dealer but after two days this non flashing yellow light appeared..handbook says exhaust problem?

Sometimes if a diesel vehicle has been parked up for a bit they get a build up of soot in the exhaust filters which will usually clear once has been driven for a while. An italian test drive usually does the job...!

My dealer said it is most likely a faulty exhaust temperature sensor, as "thats the one that gets the most battering"

Had the same problem with my T6.1 coast Glow plug light , but got it fixed under warranty

Hi thanks for watching, just had ours sorted under warranty. A faulty oil pressure sensor apparently, also triggered a warning message about the cruise control. JT

It happened to my VW couple of times . I noticed that the engine oil level was down. When I top it up it fixes the problem... you can give it a try

All vehicles modern vehicles are stacked full of computers and sensors these days...you need a laptop not spanners to fix most things !!!

Much of it driven by government regulation. If people knew how many yards of wiring are in a modern car they'd be amazed. It must add a couple hundred pounds of weight to a car.

I love my VW Jetta TDI, but the level of electronic bullshit makes me want to scream, especially with all the emissions idiot lights. I'm dealing with my car stuck in "limp mode" right now, which I'm guessing is related to the "Particulate" code that's been tripped. I wish I owned a 68 Dodge Dart with carbureted slant six. At least I would feel like I owned the car and not the other way around. Once I had an issue with a DEF hose leaking and I got a message that said the car would cease to run after X miles unless it was fixed.

Oh No ! Sorry to hear that. Our T5 went into limp mode due to a faulty EGR valve. It was a known fault that affected a certain range of these parts but it affected the computer and the van was 'told' by the computer to limit revs. With this added sophistication, the other thing we are losing is the mechanical skill set of dealership technicians as so much diagnostic work is now plug and play with a fault code reader...Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
