That reminds me that back in the days of carburetors in the 60s and 70s, carburetors had a little filter in the line where it entered the carb. It looked like a very porous little stone. Most people I ran into did not know it was there so never cleaned or replaced it. It was the cause of a lot of fuel delivery problems. Thanks for the video Ralph.

Will this bog the car down? Mine is from a rebuilt fuel distributor and the car big down at 60 mph. Why?
@straybenzes10 ай бұрын
That can indeed cause such an issue.
@hamshank292 жыл бұрын
Could this be related to the issue im having - car starts and then dies immediately. Occasioanly will run for a 2 mins and then die - pressing the accelerator kills the engine immediately. The fuel pump is new and the filter is only a year old. I have tried jumping the fuel relay and the pump but it made no difference.
@straybenzes2 жыл бұрын
I will need to make a few assumptions. Assuming that you have good supply fuel pressure to the fuel distributor than a plugged fuel pre filter at the distributor can cause a no start issue. It is easy to check that. This condition could also be related to the EHA being out of adjustment. Finally, it can also be that your start up / warm up fuel injector or it's valve are not working correctly.
@hamshank292 жыл бұрын
@@straybenzes I checked this filter and it was clean plus there is fuel reaching the distributor. I will check if the air metering plate has the correct gap but it seems strange that this would suddenly be off.
@straybenzes2 жыл бұрын
@@hamshank29 Yes, that is highly unlikely.

@@straybenzes is there anything else I can check that would cause ovefueling? Some people on forums are suggesting the EZL could have gone bad but im not sure how to test it.
@straybenzes2 жыл бұрын
@@hamshank29 One test you could do is to take off the main supply cable from EZL to distributor cap and position the cable end close to bare metal 1/8". Don't hold that cable as you may get a severe electrical shock. Have someone start the car and see if you get a spark. If there is a spark the EZL is most likely ok. I say most likely, as these tend to fail under load and also tend to malfunction as they warm up. If there is no spark then the EXL is most likely defective. Be careful!

Thanks for the video. I currently have a 1990 190e 2.6 no start issue. I will order this new inline filter and give it a try. Do you think a aftermarket filter will be fine? Seems like a few weeks or months wait for a genuine part.
@straybenzes2 жыл бұрын
The aftermarket parts can work - if it is a nice car that you want to preserve and show go with the OEM part. This filter - assuming it was clogged - goes often unchecked and will cause a crank but no start issue. However, a busted fuel pump, fuel pump relay, fuel pressure set too low, etc can also cause the same symptom. I hope this will help fix your car.
@shaazy2 жыл бұрын
Did this work? My car is a m103 and I was driving it pretty much every other day. Sometimes it would do slightly long cranks to start, sometimes it would start at half crank. Today it sat for 3 days, and wouldn't start up. It would crank endlessly but won't turn over.

Hi Ralph - That's a great tip! I wish we could see the screen in that unit, and understand how to blow it out and from which end. Oh, also, separately: Do you either have a video on tire recommendations or any specific tires you've had good experience with? My Continental Super Contact tires sat too long and they were always a hard ride, even now that my shocks are replaced. Thanks and best wishes. Vic
@straybenzes3 жыл бұрын
The filter comes off the fuel distributor really easy and you just blow it out with compressed air from the back side. You can see if it is / was blocked up with foreign objects. As far as all season tires for the std rims are concerned I have had good luck with pretty much all name brand tires ranging from low cost General to Conti, Goodyear, etc. It really comes done to personal experience and preference. You may find Tirerack.com's tire selection and recommendation site useful for gathering some feedback about your next choice of tire. Good luck.

Nice video, never knew it existed... I went to my car and looked for it, it’s a M102 engine. 2.0..I found it but there was no mesh...it was open ..is this normal?... My car won’t start.....I have replaced, pump, filter, plugs, cap rotor...just cranks.. Thank you
@straybenzes2 жыл бұрын
As far as I know there should have been a pre filter. Is this a W124 200E? Next thing to try is loosening the fuel injection line on top of the fuel distributor block one by one while the ignition is on and you are pushing down on the air mass flow flap. If it does not you may need to jumper the fuel pump relay so that the pump will definitely run while you are doing this. If fuel does not flow it may be the fuel pump relay, the fuel distributor, and / or the air mass flow flap adjustment is off.
@bradowen9418 Жыл бұрын
My 1990 300e also did not have any mesh - I am wondering if a previous mechanic replaced it with the wrong part...

@straybenzes2 жыл бұрын
I would jumper the fuel pump relay and crack open a fuel injector line to see if you have fuel going there at all. Then I would measure the fuel pressure to see if you have sufficient supply pressure. That should be a good start.
@dustblowboro Жыл бұрын
Is the filter needed in that place? I mean, will it run without (pressure?)
