When delivering power to a load, the higher the voltage the lower the current (P=IE). Since power loss across any resistance (such as wire, transistors, inductors) is a function of the square of the current times the resistance, reducing the current in half (by doubling voltage) will decrease the power loss across those resistances by a factor of 4. This is one of the reasons why very high voltage is used when delivering electrical power long distances. For more info, click: ow.ly\pb0fS
