I'm 58 and have my grandfather's lure like that. I've never had great luck with it, but wouldn't give it up. Thanks for the build, it was inspiring

A jitter bug was the first top water lure my granddad taught me to fish with. Awesome lure, love the color scheme on it. Great job

I'm about to build a Jitterbug for my future daughter-in-law and had to re-watch this video as a refresher. I made two Jitterbugs last year, so it's been a while.

I had the big black jitterbug! Used it at night time, caught a 4 and 1/2 lb Bass! Not that big by any standards but a nice fish. But it's the most memorable fish I ever caught! All you hear is the bloop bloop bloop of the Lure, then the splash of bass hitting it! I do not know why I never tried again! But I'm 65 years old now, and I think about it a lot!

Excellent build. My first jitterbug was yellow and given to me by my Dad also. I still have all the lures he gave me. Love the bass work and ad hoc mandrill. Last footage with nice Bass great.

My dad just died in January at 83 years old. We loved to fish together and his favorite lure was the Jitter-Bug. We used to spray paint them completely black and use them at night. The black silhouette of the lure would help the fish spot it against the sky. At least that was our theory, we caught bigger fish at night than in the day light.

Sounds like a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing.

Same here - all black and fished for bass at night! It's a real heart-stopper to have the bass hit right beside the boat when the lures is paused in preparation to pick it up for the next cast. Thanks for the nudge, I have a white/red jitterbug that I'm going to repaint for tomorrow night's outing!

@@hankvana2149 that's great! I've fished in total darkness with it and when the fish hits, it startled the $4!1 out of me!.

Love the classic lure builds!! Keep up the great work Franco. I was supposed to be in the Georgian Bay this coming week to give all of my homemade lures a test on Smallmouth and Norther Pike but unfortunately I am unable to go due to sever back pain and spams.

Quality Job there... But honestly to do this at the level you are doing , requires all the Power Equipment, ect. The average person isn't going to invest in this amount of Equipment. Fred Arbogaust, The original inventor, made them from an old broom handle and a vegetable can ; cut out from side wall of the can. You can also make the dish lip from the shoulder curvature of an arisol spray can. Then just paint the body black, which always works. hooks attach to inexpensive hobby eyelet screws; open eyelet type, then crimp closed. Your creation is Store bought Quality looking for sure. NOTE: It sat nose down , angled in the water at rest, instead of floating level, but you can easily balance it, using different, lighter lip material. My point , is only that the guy with bare minimal materials can make one of these, BUT...., it is very cool to have a professional Quality looking product as you produced. Thanks for the Video.

Nice one Franco! Coincidence, SolarBaits just posted an all wood jitterbug... kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqSUi6FqoNCaoLM Must be the time of year, hot days make for perfect jitterbug fishing at night! Taking about surface lures, how about a Hedon "Dying Flutter" or "Torpedo" prop-bait build? I paint mine all black for night use. They are a little more subtle than the jitterbug. Cheers!
