I have gotten lots of questions about how to use UV resin; what kind of UV lights? how durable is it? and lots of others. I have answered many of those questions over a few videos (see the playlist link below) but, here I try to hit some of the most asked questions and some tips that you might not get anywhere else.
• UV Cure Resin
Here are some links to the lights and resin I'm using.

So, I know the sound quality is not up to snuff on some of my videos but, I'm slowly convincing myself that cheap Chinese knockoff microphones are not going to get it done. Now I have to convince myself to drop the big bucks on quality gear. I have made a bit of an upgrade since this one so hopefully you will hear the difference in the next vid. Thank you to everyone for putting up with it...I really am working on it.

Great tips. I’m going to use a few on my guitars! One tip- a guy that sells UV lights told me that mirrors don’t reflect UV light. He said to use the shiny side of aluminum foil. Glue it down with some 3m spray glue. I tried it in my curing booth, works great, and it’s cheap!
@EngineeredAngler
@EngineeredAngler 3 жыл бұрын
That is a common belief. And it has some truth in that UVB is blocked (mostly) when it passes through glass. We are using the UVA part of the spectrum and UVA passes through glass...mirrors will work but not as quit as good as highly polished foil or silver finished vinyl laminate. But if you just have a low polish foil you are better off with mirrors.

Great video.. I'd like to point out though! Epoxy thins with heat... So, if you were to dip it, or brush it, a heat gun or mini butane torch can help remove excess epoxy much quicker & the heat pops any bubbles that do form. I've been using epoxy for many things for many years. Just recently a friend got me into doing lures, as I am an "artist" ( family & friends words not mine. ) So I have been replecsring alot of forage species the last 6months to a year. Not as good at it as I'd like. Ut my buddy is super happy to not buy new lures & refurb his old tried and trues

So... again, thanks for a great video .I have about five channels I follow. When one comes up like yours I almost want to have popcorn. A couple of points. I brush my resin on and have never noticed it sagging. I have a tank made by doubling up a couple of nail dryers. I do brush it on carefully and try not to let it build up though. Second, and I could be wrong. You mentioned that you can add mirrors to help reflect the light on a lure. I was of the understanding that mirrors won't work. You have to use other types of reflective surfaces like foils. I don't know why but I'd imagine that the refraction through glass might mess up the wavelength needed ??? Thnx again...I watch all you stuff when it comes out.

Great information - thanks for sharing! A quick comment about (all) epoxy resins - you should minimize contact with it! Even getting a small amount on your fingers should be avoided as the acquired sensitivity is cumulative and the allergic reactions to it are less than pleasant! Please warn your viewers. It's that time of year that temperatures are below freezing at night here in Canada so in preparation I cut a basswood log into lumber to make lures from this winter so I will be reviewing many of you videos. I got some of that Chinese resin - how do you like it? Do you have any comments or suggestions on using it?

Awesome video. I am just getting into the UV resin. Seems to be pretty rock hard which I love. 2 questions. How many coats of polyacrylic do you apply to the paint before you put on the uv resin? Can you use the aerosol polyacrylic or should I make the 85% to 15% water mixture and spray from my airbrush? And 1 more thing. If I am going to put a 2 part epoxy over the uv resin would you sand the uv resin to create some grit for the 2 part to adhere to or just go straight ontop of the cured uv resin with no sanding? Thanks for all you do it's much appreciated!!
@EngineeredAngler
@EngineeredAngler 2 жыл бұрын
I usually apply 2 Coats of polychrylic before I clear coat. You can use the aerosol or you can mix it the way I do it's up to you.. And and if you're going to put any resin clear coat over UV resin you should give it a very light standing or at least deglaze it with acetone.
@mattmodernalchemist5774
@mattmodernalchemist5774 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that! I'll do 2 coats of the poly! With the uv resin can you brush it on and do a hanging cure as opposed to turning it? If I get some 4 ft uv tubes and fit them in a long box. Just curious before I go through the effort of building a big expensive curing box that doesn't turn

Hi mate, so sorry to bother you. But your def the man to ask about this UV resin. Just started to that cheaper brand as I’ve always used a two part resin for fixing surfboards/paddle boards for years. I’ve been having problems with it going off (under the Uv nail machine 38watt) but still remaining .... rubbery feel ? If you know what I mean ? It’s not a hard set like my other resins ? My question is .... due to me having to use it in my garage/workshop and it being winter here in England (approx 10deg). Do you think it’s the low temps that are effecting the resin as the nail machine is just floating over the top ?? And not within a sealed cylinder like yours an keeping warm ?? I tried my normal two part and this again took absolutely ages to gel up, so brought it in to place over a radiator and it then set hard !!! What’s your thoughts 😎😎😍😍🇬🇧🇬🇧👍👍
@EngineeredAngler
@EngineeredAngler 3 жыл бұрын
Temperature can definitely be a problem. The UV resin is not happy under 21 C. Takes much much longer. It helps to get the item as close to the bulbs as possible...nearly touching. Best of luck, cheers.

Hello, I’ve reviewed your playlist and still have a question. Sorry if you’ve answered it. I’m using the ‘UV Resin Hard’ 100g bottle to clear coat my lures. When I brush on the resin there seems to be spots that stay dry*. I spin it in my drill (probably spins 1.5x faster than your rig) and it doesn’t seem to do any good. What ensures perfectly round perfectly smooth finish? Rotating at right speed? Viscosity of resin? The perfect amount of resin? I see you brush it on initially and it already looks perfect and not runny.
@EngineeredAngler
@EngineeredAngler 7 ай бұрын
If it isn't smooth after brushing you have some issue with the paint interaction. In my videos I show how I seal the paint with Minwax Polycrylic.

I use fish a top water lure when I returned to the world after 2 tours in Nam. The lure was called a crazy shad, when cast it would sit nose up maybe half inch, only one prop on the tail triable hook. I found a lure similar made in Brazil. But those are overhaul smaller in size. It was plastic, silver black back. The belly was shaped like a crank bait thicker and tapered on both ends. Now, this may sound nuts, but I would lite sand to make a dull shine. My question have you ever made one similar to this Crazy Shad ? I believe wood would work, but have no idea how to get lure to goto a standing tail down with very slow jigging motions like a brim snapping the surface and tail spinner for kicking tail as if wounded, trying to feed. If you send an email with a picture of the Brazilian model crazy shad. Thanks
