Actually, engineering geology is the more common, public-interfacing part of the earth sciences. Engineering geologists tend to be subcontractors at all levels of property and land development. Most are schools, as undergrads, to be interpreters, and communicators, between layfold and the techie side of earth sciences and engineering. Many are also trained to write reports which can stand-up in courts, since many aspects of land and property development can be subject to litigation. Such a prof has to lead and teach with that kind of clarity.

Dr. Rogers sounds and talks like Captain Dale Dye, USMC (Vietnam War). Captain Dale Dye appeared in movies, including 'Band of Brothers' where he played the furious Army officer who, in his office, got angry and meted out punishment to several NCO's of the Band of Brothers because they dared to take action against their superior officer, behind their officer's back. What a great scene in the Band of Brothers movie! Semper Fi to Dr. Rogers and Captain Dale Dye!
