This is a mechanic i want to experiment with the early access if the forest expands from any group of trees maybe prioritize thin strips in the living trees first to see if you can get some forest expansion for free early on then leave the onetime resources for 2nd priority. It didnt seem like during the time it took to get to the living trees much expansion happened

@@clifdweller it took a little while in the demo, wood recommend with the 3 logs wood, but the more wood they produce the longer they take to grow. Will do experiments on it when I get the game. Will also look for people to play test a few of my custom maps too

I am so gonna love the Map Editor mode: I have two ideas for customs: 1, Flood Plains: A massive map with enough of a starting area for regular play, but the kicker: The majority of the map is actually under a level of water. Moving out into the water to put levies and other walls in to manipulate the flow of water and make more land for expansion is needed. 2, Three Gorges: A nice little one for "ease" as there's a single river that runs through a fairly deep canyon. With water access to start, raising the water level to certain points moves and opens up new canyons to water flow, further expanding workable green areas as well as access to water power. Can you raise it all the way to the top?!

I was thinking about this as well, he likely will have some die, so it depends on if he keeps all 8 tanks running after the first batch. He will likely be at like 12 for the next dry season vs about 8 during this one. These are very loose numbers, but hopefully he will plan for increased population still.

I've managed to make a mildly working algorithm for keeping beavers mildly happy. Small Water Tank = # of Beavers / 3 Water Pumps = # of Small Water Tanks / 2 Lodge = Small Water Tanks I literally can leave my game without checking up on them. Also you are awesome. You are the reason I started playing Timberborn.
@DraconicDuelist
@DraconicDuelist 3 жыл бұрын
I'd recommend adding a second dam (or some kind of bridge) to connect your water pump section down to your lumber mill. Greatly reduce the amount of walk-time the beavers have to do. Saw where someone said you can put paths under the river and the beavers will swim across, so if that works it'd be easier.

In regards to that forestry you were setting up by the end of the video, birch and pine will probably be good in the short run, but you'll want maple primarily, since they have the best log/day ratio, and once you have the maples fully grown, you'll likely want to convert completely to maple for the long haul. Planning ahead on where you want to build at and leaving space to place paths is also a good idea, as is getting access to verticality early for stacking storage facilities.
@skillfulfighter23
@skillfulfighter23 3 жыл бұрын
Maples give 1 wood every 3 days, pine gives 1 wood every 6 days, birch gives 1 wood every 9 days. It is much more efficient to do maples, though the initial harvest will take a while. Once you've got maples though, your storage will likely fill up before all the maples are cut, so you will likely constantly have a set of maples waiting to be cut
@NotMyActualName_
@NotMyActualName_ 3 жыл бұрын
I wonder if having all the water storage centralized is part of the problem. Might want to spread the water tanks around so that the beavers can get a drink closer to their jobs. It would be less efficient during the wet season but more efficient in the dry season.
@nick2253
@nick2253 3 жыл бұрын
In the beginning, it makes sense to keep the water tanks near the pumps to improve the water throughput. As your city expands, however, you want to start distributing the water throughout the city, and relying on your extra beavers in order to haul the water around. But until you get enough beavers, you want to minimize that amount of busy work.

So I was curious and did a bit of math: Birch - 1 log / 9 days = 0.111 logs/day Pine - 2 logs / 12 days = 0.1666 logs/day Maple - 8 logs / 24 days = 0.3333 logs/day So basically Maple is 3x as efficient to grow as Birch and twice as efficient as Pine. Birch is the 'short term reward' of the lumber options; Maple is best option overall, but requires a bit more time and planning.

When planning your layout, it would help things a lot to pause the game, as every second matters. There is such a small margin for error and your beavers aren't architects, so you can't just throw their lives away.

Many buildings like farmhouses have an internal storage, and workers will fill that storage. In fact, they depend on it: if it fills up then the beavers will stop doing work that produces that resource. Your farmhouses filled up with carrots, so your beavers stopped doing harvesting. And, as you noticed, your storehouses filled up with various crap, meaning nobody could move carrots from the farmhouses.

I was thinking maybe you could invest in dynamite to create small distributary channels to increase the range of the growing area and also i have a hypothesis that having multiple dams along the river will slow the loss of water during the dry season. The dams would also allow quicker access to the other bank so, two birds one stone

You should dig out the stream so it's like a huge ass reservoir but keep enough dirt on the waterfall so it still falls off to very top of the reservoir that way when it stops pouring you can just have a staircase or something every once in awhile and then have a pump pump water from the reservoir.
